Treats and special occasions

Hi all, hope your diets are going well!!

I am just posting this because I have recently started a diet yet again and I am already worrying about the times I have a treat/off plan day ... I just always think I am going to put loads of weight on how do you cope with having treats, do you just have a bar of chocolate, meal or have the day off?? lol

How do you cope going on holiday, do you still stay on plan?? :( I associate food with enjoyment I would not enjoy a holiday sticking to a diet thats a true fatty for you) haha also when I go home from uni I meet up with friends and spend time with family and it always involves nice yet bad food.

Also for those who have succeeded in losing weight how do you manage to maintain, because people say as soon as you even put your calories up abit the weight piles back on........ not even lost my weight yet and I am worrying about keeping it off ......... Hope I actually lose it, cannot cope with being this big any more.

my first goal is to lose 21lb in 10 weeks is that possible, I am calorie counting (1000 per day).

Thanks xx

When I was at university, 30 years ago, I was like you - a modest amount of weight to lose and no real idea of how to go about it! As is the case with most dieters, it was the start of a miserable, lifelong cycle of weightloss and regain, ending up needing to lose 10 stone. What I would urge you to do is to think very carefully before starting down this potentially destructive path. You would be much better just addressing your addictive relationship with food, which is evident from your comments, and trying to eat healthily, rather than focusing on the weight.

1000 calories a day is not a good idea, the minimum recommended is 1200, but even that is a bit low and difficult to maintain. 95% of dieters put all the weight back on, and usually more besides, so the harder you make it for yourself, the more likely this is to happen.

All the best. xx

Thanks, well ye I am doing both really tbh I want to eat better because when I am constantly easting junk I don't enjoy it and I am looking at it as a lifestyle change but I also wanna lose the weight to look and feel good and this year I am 21, I want to spend my birthday in a good body lol I have been dieting since the age of 10 :( I eat very well at uni but at home its all crap. when I say eat well I mean avoid junk however I am a fussy eater and do not like veg and am very limited to what i can buy as I have no money lol So that is why I chose to eat 1000 calories instead of 1200 because where most people would get those extra calories from veg etc I would get it from carbs or some low fat treats and I don't want to do that cos I fear I will gain weight. Finding it hard as I am too busy to exercise atm too so worried I may not lose weight. Sorry for the long reply :S x

I hope I didn't sound preachy, but you sound just like me at that age, and now I'm nearly 50, halfway towards my 10 stone weightloss target, with two arthritic knees amongst other health problems. My life has been one of yo-yo dieting, and if you could avoid that it would be great.

I can highly recommend a book called Eat Less by Gillian Riley - it's changed my outlook on the whole subject.

All the best. xx

No of course you didn't :) ... thanks I may have a look at that, think my main problem is eating the a lot and the wrong food when I see my family and friends. Thank you and well done on your weight loss so far and good luck with the rest! x

You sound very similar to me though you're a lot slimmer so I have further to go.
Strangely I'm the opposite to you, at home my parents cook for me so I tend to eat better, where as at uni I'm so stressed I just grab what I can. My 21st is in August but my first goal is my graduation in July.
I think it would be unrealistic to stop eating out with friends and family. You could look at menu's and see what is the best food option before you go out (My fitness pal is good for checking) and also burn off the calories during the day so you have more calorie allowance.
I'm no expert as I've only just started! But when I have a bad day I have an extra hard day at the gym the day after! I'm also doing the 30 day shred which people rave about so fingers crossed!

hey, im not allowing myself any treats or time off, because im on the vlcd of exante and im am putting all the effort in to lose the weight and it is working so there is no way i am cheating on this one or even having a day off, but maybe if you want a treat maybe have sugar free jelly or maybe sugar free lollies they are great or maybe just treat yourself to a new pair of earrings or top instead of food, good luck

You shouldnt feel bad for having a treat, if you dont treat yourself you just get fed off and dont bother with it (I find) I think every stone I lose I will treat myself to a Starbucks hot chocolate and a big cookie mmm!

hi :) ive started a thread in the slim fast section, called fakeaways. only just did it so only one suggestion on there but hoping people can add suggestions and recipes! im going to have my fakeaway one day a month, as even though it wont be high calorie, i'll still see it as a treat and it'll make me look forward to it all month long, and hope satiate my cravings for real takeaway!
i havent had any cravings yet though so hoping not to!
