Hi Guys,

New to the forum so be friendly! I just wanted to see if any body has tried any of the konjac low calorie pasta alternatives? I saw them on Dragons Den not too long ago and also see a few articles written online. Any body have any feedback on what they are like? do they work? Thanks for your help, I am getting back married in May and need to kick start my diet!

Hi Motherof1ne

I eat them all the time - Shirataki noodles. They are 97% water (the rest fibre) and fill me up completely.

Be warned - they smell fishy when you take them out of the packet and need to be dunked in water and rinsed for a bit before cooking. They do not taste of anything but absorb sauces very well... I usually have them with Asian style stir frys, but have also tried a low fat/low carb fake alfredo sauce and tasted amazing - felt like I was eating something naughty that day :p.

All the best to you xx

Yep - I have been eating them too.

I find that they are more palateable after "dry-frying" them - literally that, in a non-stick pan, no oils or anything, just fry them as is. The frying changes the texture somewhat and I find it tastier that way. Just drink plenty of fluids after the meal to let them bulk up again.

They do stave off the hunger but the body wises up to the fact that there is practically zero calories and the hunger reflex really kicks in hard. So IMO best to use them to shave off a few calories in your normal meals, but not to live on them.

FYI I have been eating the "Eat Water" noodles.
