Couch to 5k

Hey guys...just wondering if anyone has used the couch to 5k app?! Where it tell you when to run and when to walk...it builds you up to running 5k in 8 weeks? Has anyone used this or know of any god apps to help you get better at running?

Thanks guys! Starting my diet on Monday!!!! X

Oh that's good! I'm glad you found it easy to do! I'm actually excited to start! I am just going to do a healthy eating plan...not sure what to have for breakfast though?! I am going to have salad for lunch and fruit as a snack in the day and in the evening veg and chicken!! I have 8 weeks to loose as much as I can!!! X

Hi, I'm on run 2 of week 8. 5 mins warm up walk, 28 mins run and 5 mins warm down walk. It's tough going but well worth it. You build up gradually until around week 5 and then it really starts to step up, I have never not completed any of the sessions and my stamina and fitness has really improved. During the sessions you get encouragement to keep going and to go at your own pace. I would recommend you give it a try. Good luck x

Ahhhh thanks so much guys...well I have my chart on my wall...I played football yesterday and my thighs are killing me today so I am going to do the run tomorrow morning,Wednesday morning and Friday! I am so excited! I just can't wait until I can actually run for more than 5 minutes!!! I think you enjoy it more when your good at it!

Hope the run goes/went well today, good luck x

I did the run on Monday evening...should go again tonight but my legs are really hurting...should I push through it?

I would say push yourself, but don't hurt yourself. Listen to your body. If you're just a bit tired, then yeah, tackle that run! If your muscles feel very strained, then maybe speed walk instead. Ending up injured will only set you back. Are you eating any protein post-run? I've found that to be really useful in aiding muscle recovery. Just a handful of nuts or something is what I usually have.

Also, if this week of running/walking proves to be really tough for you, there's no shame in repeating it next week if you don't feel ready to move on to level 2. Challenge yourself, but also take care. :)

I did Couch to 5K ages ago, and ended up hurting my knee on week 3. Some injuries are freak accidents; mine was due to not paying attention to what my body was telling me. I'm all better now, and I do still run before I lift weights. It just set me back several months, and I'd hate for the same thing to happen to you. xx

Hi, did you do the run? How did it go? I have to admit that I have really had to push myself to do the run some sessions. I have also done 4 runs on a couple of weeks because I found them really hard and decided it was better to be more comfortable and confident at that level before moving up. I am currently doing this on week 8 before moving onto the final week. Follow the advise on the podcasts; don't push yourself too hard and go at your own pace BUT keep going.
