loose skin

Hey :)

Congrats on the loss. That's amazing :)

I don't have any tips / tricks - but wanted to post as I'm really concerned about this issue too. I've lost 2 stone and already my underarms are looking pretty winkled. My head knows that this is way better than being 3 stone heavier, but I've spent a serious amount of time scouring the internet to see what the best thing to minimise the saggy skin might be. I'm mostly OK with having some, I just want it to be as little as possible.

What I've got so far is:

  • Drinking lots of water (easy)
  • Losing weight slowly (not going to do this as I want to try for a baby before I'm a million years old)
  • Moisturise (i'm using palmers firming cocoa butter. I try and use it twice a day but it's hard to keep up with. I also brought some Nip and Fab as it was on special offer - but as it's quite pricey I'm only starting to use that when I'm a bit nearer goal)
  • Massage (luckily my husband is a trained massage therapist, so he's giving me massages every so often - not deep tissue massages, but ones that involve moving my skin around which is apparently better. It has a special name that I can't remember)
  • Eating plenty of lean protein (e.g. chicken and fish)
  • Exercise (I'm trying tabata workouts that focus on my arms, stomach and thighs)
  • Yoga (apparently the stretching helps ... so I'm trying to learn the Sun Salutation and do it most mornings)
  • Exfoliating when I have a shower

I've no idea if any of this will help - but I guess I'll have better conditioned saggy skin even if it doesn't help firm me up a bit :fingerscrossed:

Looking forward to hearing about others experiences too

The best thing is to take it slowly, but even that won't guarantee you not getting loose skin - it mostly seems to be down to genetics and luck, lol. I've lost 11.5 stone, and whilst I will always have to cover up, the skin isn't too bad - I just look a bit wrinkly and melted, and have to literally fold my boobs into my bra! But the most important thing is that we're all better off as a result of loosing weight, and a bit of loose skin is a tiny price to pay. :) xx

This is how I feel when I open my arms and I am still obese:

I do most of the things that BrightSide mentioned, even so I'm all wrinkled and this is one of the reasons why I don't want to lose too much weight. I think being a morbid obese for most of my life will charge its price in the form of skin, but, well, I try to keep the good humour. I'm even trying to accept my arms as they are - they have always been the part of my body that I hated the most and tried to cover.

For get oily free skin

1. don not use moisturizer because most chances are it will have oil in it and make your skin more oily.
2. Use a cleanser that is oil free.
3. Eat better, foods such as chocolate, french fries and soda, cause oily skin and acne.
4. Don't over wash your face because it will dry out your skin and signal your glands to produce more oil.
5. Use a toner for your face, trust me it helps.
6. Use oil blotting sheets, they work amazing when you are at school or work and need to freshen up your face.

What has this got to do with loose skin?

I heard rubbing you skin with coconut oil really helps, I began using it today. I lost over 60 pounds in the last 7 months so you can imagine how much like a turkey do I look :)

Im worried about having loose skin going to start using these tips! Thanks guys!x

I'm getting to this stage, I started to notice it a couple of weeks back. Thanks to those who posted the tips, all I've been doing is drinking lots of water and praying I'm young enough (I'm 24) for it to sort itself out eventually :/

There are quite a few items that you can also introduce into your diet in order to get some nutrients to prevent loose skin, you can find some of them here. You may also get a vitamin mix with lots of collagen. But, to be honest, if you have lots of weight to lose (like me), loose skin is almost unavoidable. It may not be too bad, as in the case of Tracy.

Also, if you are in a kind of crazy / low nutrient diet, don't expect your body to cooperate with anything as you are not cooperating with your body.

This is something im really worries about too! ive got 7 stone overall to lose and so far lost just under two with no loose skin but just know as i lose more it will come. its honestly made me worried about losing weight but i know i need to do it. Im going to try all these tips and keep fingers and toes crossed it doesnt get too bad!!

KG you can also check how your body adapts to your new weight and find a middle ground in which you are satisfied with how it looks like :)
This is what I intend to do instead of aiming for a regular BMI.

That's a really good ideas try and find a happy middle ground!

Have you been doing toning exercises? They can help reduce loose skin to an extent. If your problem is stomach maybe pilates could help.

What kind of exercise Jane?
Most exercises help building lean mass, which means that you may fill out your loose skin with the lean tissue, but it doesn't make the skin to come back to its place.

Weight lifting exercises with high repetitions and low weight. Yes, that´s true.
