    saggy baggy skin = inevitable?

I have a fair bit of weight to lose. Whilst I would love to weigh less regardless, the saggy leftover skin is a worry to me. Is it possible to lose a lot of weight and not have saggy skin? I am only young (22), and I have read that this is when the skin is the most elastic. Has anyone here lost a heap of weight (say 80lb) and not had the skin problem? How overweight would one have to be before the saggy skin becomes inevitable?

the only thing i can suggest is to do it slowley...and try and do toning exercises throughout, core strength/pilates/yoga
You dont have to be skinny to be sexy ...

Yeah it tends to be a bigger problem if you lose the weight fast but if you lose a steady 1-2lb per week then your skin should catch up nicely. And don't forget to exercise too x

I've lost 47lbs and the skin has gone straight back to normal. When I had my daughter, I didn't get stretch marks. I honestly believe some people are more inclined to have trouble then others. You can help matters, by losing it slowly as the guys have said and maybe using Bio Oil. Hopefully you'll be one of the lucky ones.
    LT 28lbs lost.
CD 13lbs lost. Did 810 on CD so introduced food.
    Atkins 6lbs lost.
    Total loss - 47lbs
    UNDER WEIGHT TARGET

Gained back 28lbs. Cannot believe it!!
Am now doing south beach to lose the weight.

    New losses 25lbs Nearly there

This is my horrific before picture plus and my after pictures....with a bit of flesh showing.

I'm in my 40's so I'll definitely have saggy skin if I get to target, especially round my belly from having kids. But at least I'll look better with my clothes on I'll worry about the skin later.

This is my 4th attempt to get to target with SW!

Hi all have been reading this thread with intrest as I have got loads of spare skin
I have looked into this on net and come up with

the younger your skin is the less loose skin you will have ... so mosturise and plenty of water your skin can have a slower aging process than you lol with help
It makes little no difference wether you lose weight fast or slow your skin just take a little longer to catch up but it will within 6 months /year at most .There are loads of ww and sw dieters on forums asking the saggy skin question as well as those on vlcds .

    Do what works for you
better a heathy human with control pants than ,a nackered puffing panting chest pains leg ache speicmen

I found this quote (or something similar )on a forum and it made sense to me

You can always save for a tuck but a new heart is hard to obtain
Hope this makes sense good luck with your journey hope you are all one of the lucky ones with lovely supple skin lol

I think when you are younger you are bound to be more concerned about such matters as being left with loose, saggy skin as 'fitting in' is so much more important to you when you are young! I remember all so vividly feeling 'trapped' in my ugly fat body, feeling miserable and left out whilst all my slim friends were wearing skimpy, trendy clothes and I longed to be like them so It is understandable that when a young person loses a lot of weight they would feel most unhappy if they were left still unable to wear all those sexy, skimpy little clothes due to unsightly, surplus skin! Having 2 darling daughters myself I can well understand why this would be a major problem for any youngster, girls especially and I just hope the doctors and surgeons would be sympathetic in such a case and to not help would be cruel and unkind especially after they have worked so hard to change their life!

However, as you get older, although looking your best is also very important - health matters become the most important and major concern of any overweight person and I, like so many others worry about the affect being obese has on my physical condition and so to me a pantie girdle and carefully selected clothes would be quite sufficient to keep me happy once I reached a healthy weight. For me, feeling fit and mobile with a far healthier future would be a dream come true and anything else would be a bonus!

Would I have any surplus skin removed? Hmm ............well yes, maybe I would consider it in the future if it was a real problem but like others have also said I will cross that bridge when I come to it but right now; a healthy heart and painfree legs is my no.1 top priority!

Interesting post. For me though it's not about fitting in but being happy in my own body but I can see why so many people feel like they have to conform
