My Mood: Rep Power: 4 ![]() ![]() Height: 5' 5" Start Date: 01/06/08 Start Weight: 192lb Current Weight: 149lb Goal Weight: 133lb Goal Date: 01/06/09 BMI Information: Current BMI: 24.8 Start BMI: 31.9 Goal BMI: 22.1 Statistics: Total Weight Loss: 43lb Weight to Lose: 16lb % Lost 22.4% | Having had counselling for nearly a year now (and I count myself lucky that I get it free through my university), I really wish that other people could get it when they need it. It really has helped me so much, I feel a completely different person as a result of it, and it is what has given me the strength to address my weight issues. I would never want people to think I don't take responsibility for what I eat and what exercise I get, and yes ultimately it is my own fault that I'm overweight. But I really believe that people need support, not judgement, to turn things around. |

My Mood: Rep Power: 5 ![]() ![]() ![]() Height: 5' 5" Start Date: 1st June 2008 Start Weight: 209lb Current Weight: 177lb Goal Weight: 139lb Goal Date: 9th June 2009 (30th Birthday!) BMI Information: Current BMI: 29.5 Start BMI: 34.8 Goal BMI: 23.1 Statistics: Total Weight Loss: 32lb Weight to Lose: 38lb % Lost 15.31% | To be fair, the schools are much better equiped for teaching about healthy living, but we also have to watch out for eating disorders such as anorexia etc. I spent the whole of Autumn term with year 5 on healthy eating using the food pyramid etc. making sure they did not think that they 'couldnt' eat a certain food but to think about eating a balanced diet, for then a drama group to come in and talk about 'Bad' foods and how they shouldnt eat crisps, chocolate etc. My dancing teacher once said "You have lost weight, oh you are good girls!" to me and one of my friends. I wasnt over weight at the time, but that phrase at the age of 13 has stuck with me and hasnt helped the issues I have had with food. I do think that people need to take responsibility, nobody made me eat anything directly. BUT people need to recognise there must be a reason why people eat a whole tube of jaffa cakes in one sitting or whatever. The price of fruit and veg is rediculous and some people can not afford it - but some of them should think about priorities (e.g. they can smoke 20 a day, but not afford vegetables) Relative poverty is not an issue but absolute is. I am overweight because I ate too many takeaways because I couldnt be bothered to cook and I didnt do enough exercise. It is my fault as I know what I should eat and how to keep healthy! I have made choices not to do those things. (and I can blame the abusive ex boyfriend etc, but ultimately nobody force fed me). xx

My sister is also receiving counselling and it is helping her no end. She is really thinking things through now and understanding why she ate the way she did. I am SO pleased for her because she came very close indeed to having a gastric bypass operation, which would not have helped her with the "head" stuff at all. I hope you continue to do well Hazelnut. | |

When I was at university I had a maths lecturer who told us that when teaching graphs and charts etc NEVER to use weight of the kids as data to collect. His daughter was anorexic and she put it down to being in year 6 and was the tallest (and was the heaviest) and her teacher made them all weight themselves and used the data in the whole class teaching. That combined with being nervous going to high school started her eating less (which then spiralled). People need to think about what they say and do. (Oh the irony of me teaching about being healthy to year 5 weighing 14stone 10lbs...actually we were a 'healthy eating school' but the head was over 20 stone)

There are LOTS who arent like that tho. In a staff INSET if they were demonstrating numeracy statistic lessons, would they ask the staff to be weighed??? The straight answer would be "no" because nobody would agree to it. Teachers can make or break a person with the smallest comment. I just wish more were aware of the impact they can have (OR more contraversially (sp??) I wish there were far less who were on a power trip). Sorry!! Rant over. It just really gets my goat.

My Mood: Rep Power: 3 ![]() Diet: Slimming World. | i couldn't agree with babycake more. Its a known fact that a lot of people's weight reflects their emotional state. Therefore is it any wonder that in this country where family breakdown, depression and unemployment and the cost of living is rising there is a rising problem of emotional overeating. I'm not making excuses because at the end of the day people are in control of themselves, however to just target the nations rising problem with weight is only treating the symptom and not the underlying cause.

My Mood: Rep Power: 69 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Diet: Reached Target...yipppeee. | I have to take responsibility for my weight gain, just like I now take the positive comments for losing it. I've always known that eating high fat/sugar food will put weight on you, but I was lazy and ordering a pizza was easier then taking time to prepare a healthy nutritious meal. Its was all my fault - no one elses. I think most people know what foods are healthy and which are not, but dieting is VERY HARD. I watched a guy on the news last night. He is obese and needs some surgery, but the NHS will not do it (for money reasons). When I saw him, I thought rather then spending thousands of pounds on an operation, why not put him on Lipotrim or the Cambridge diet. He WILL lose the weight and the costs will be so much lower. Instead of his body being put through the trauma of an operation with the increased risks involved due to his weight, he will lose weight in a healthy manner. The problem is TFR diets are really tough and lots of people cannot stick to them....but is this the NHS fault? I'm not sure it is.

My Mood: Rep Power: 2 ![]() Diet: weightwatchers | I am fat because I am greedy. No other reason. I understand that emotional issues contribute to eating issue sometimes, but ultimately it is ludicrous to make them both mutually exclusive. Bad things happen to thin people too, and they don't overeat. I think the issue lies in separating the emotional issues from the eating issues. There always seems to be an excuse for putting on weight, rough times, being content, eating to celebrate. The reason most people are fat is because they eat too much, and don't excercise enough. I don't mean to offend anybody but I know a lot of overweight people and they all have one thing in common- too much munching!! |
