GI Diet Support Forum The GI diet explained how to manage blood sugars levels to help weight loss and encourage long-term good health. The GL (glycaemic load) is an exciting new extension of these principles and measures more accurately the carbohydrate load of food. This means that foods that had previously been considered high GI, e.g. melon, can now be introduced into your diet, as the amount of carbs you would eat in a portion, rather than in a whole melon, is calculated.

Are there any GI dieters here?!?

Gosh I expected this forum to be PACKED, what with GI being "the" diet to do now!!

I have almost come to the end of the road with Cambridge diet and am going to switch across to the GI diet when I have lost the weight, it seems like a very sensible diet. I am prone to binges and basically eating the wrong stuff, so I have admitted to myself that I will always have to watch what I eat and need to follow some sort of plan.

I have got Rick Gallop's books and must read them thoroughly over the next few weeks as I still am very confused about this diet and how it all works!

Is there anyone here doing GI? Would love to chat!

Sarah xx

I'm not doing it at the moment Sarah but intend to follow a low GI plan once I've lost enough weight to be 'comfortable' ... that will be in about 5 stones time!

Good luck though - it looks like a really healthy 'do-able' way of eating.

Hey Sarah ~ yeh, I was surprised that there wasn't more activity on the GI bit of these forums as it does seem to be one of the most recommended of healthy eating plans.

I toyed with doing GI before I started CD, but decided I needed something with rapid losses to help kickstart a healthier way of eating and like RD, plan to move onto GI when I reach goal.

I can't find my Rick Gallop book, so will have to go out and get another ~ but what I recall is it's all about eating the types of food that digest slowly and therefore keep you feeling fuller for longer. Obviously goes into the science of it a bit more, but that's the gist I picked up before.

One good thing is that it doesn't seem to restrict any food group, just advises healther choices ~ like brown rice, wholegrain bread and the avoidance of highly processed foods.

OOOHHH yay there are other people here LOL Thanks for all your replies!

I am going to have to start sooner than I originally thought as I simply cannot continue to pay for CD, brilliant as I find the diet.

Am going away to have a good read through all my books and will trawl the net too!

Thanks for all your replies, we should try and get this forum going again, I just can't get over how quiet it is!!!
