newbie- GI gluten free + health probs

hi- it's really inspiring to read of the sensible and sustained weight loss achieved by people here.
I'd like to join you as I'm averse to commercial diet clubs, they just seem appropriate for people with health probs. I don't get out much and really don't want to use up a trip out going to a diet club to be lectured about taking exercise ( if only I could) or to be inflected with promotion of their brand diet junk food.
I lost about 5 stones about 7 years ago with low GI but most of it has crept back on.

I've got several health probs, and clearly being obese is adding to them.
I am inactive, as walking exacerbates 2 of the conditions. I use a mobility aid, but manage to potter around the house a bit, but also have to rest in bed or on the sofa with feet elevated.
I have moderate ME, low thyroid, spasm disorder, blood clotting condition, IBS, coeliac, blood sugar lows..... and am under investigation at cardiology dept.

I've never found a diet club that does low GI and gluten free. I get genius GF bread on prescription, but am sure it's not low GI, but it's convenient so I just try to be sensible and not eat more than 2 small slices a day, but not everyday.

I've been feeling pretty hopeless about being able to lose weight, but try to focus on the positive of eating as healthy as poss. which is why I think GI is the most suitable way. Although I do sometimes lapse and wonder about doing a drastic fast scheme, then I remind myself that I'm not suitable and weightloss often isn't sustained. I suppose it's an expression of the frustration at being stuck. I find cooking difficult, and need to plan ahead and get meals prepared when I have my carer in.

well that's my rather long story :blahblah:

Hi and welcome to the forum. I'm sorry to hear about your health issues. It can be hard to focus on a diet when you have do much else to deal with. The very positive aspect of your post is that you successfully lost weight with low Gi in the past. Five stones was a great loss.
Once your system detoxes from sugars and processed foods you will soon be back in the weightloss zone.
Keep posting your menus for a while as it will help keep you focussed. Check out some of the recipes in the stickies section.
Good luck and I look forward to reading your diary.

thanks IM.
I've not been eating completely terribly, just the balance has been wrong, like the interim goal of getting the balance back.

Welcome and good luck. You sound very much like my sister in law, who is pretty much wheel chair bound. My niece is her carer and tries to follow this kind of plan

It is very positive that you have manage d to lose weight in the past, and so, should be able to again.

Hx

Welcome! Sounds like you've got a good plan to stick to. I read once that losing weight was 90% diet and 10% exercise, so with limited mobility you can (as you've seen yourself) lose weight. Just take it at your own pace and do what works for you. :)

Have you tried any of the exercise DVDs for people with limited mobility? I've got one for yoga with fatigue that I really like as you can do it standing, seated, or lying down. I've also got one for a chair-based workout that I haven't tried yet (my ME is currently not kicking my backside as much as it usually does so I'm doing a bit more active exercise just now).

thanks Plumfoodie. I do have yoga for people with ME disk, planning to try very short sessions when semester ends, as I'm already doing too much to add anything extra in.
I need to stabilise before adding more. I try to keep fluid with little stretches, and not being static for too long.
I think there's a plce for relaxation as well as exercise, another form of self-care.
Good to hear you've got ME well controlled.
impressed you can manage swinging kettle bells - well done !
