    Underactive Thyroid

    Hi,
My 14 year son has been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid and low vitamin b12. I am bringing him to see a paediatrician tomo on referral from doctor.
I just wonder, can someone give me any information about how he will improve once he gets the correct meds?
He has all the classic symptoms - lethargy, weight gain, lack of concentration etc etc, but I thought that was normal teenagerness!!! lol.

    Anyway, thanks.

I've an underactive thyroid myself. Once they have found the correct dose of thyroxine your son should start to feel better within a few weeks. I cant remember how long myself but I seem to recall a gradual imrovement in how I felt and how much energy I had rather than a immediate improvement.

    Hope everything goes well

Hi I also was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid and low vitamin B12 in August 2009. I get an injection for B 12 once a month, and I take Eltroxin for my Thyroid, it takes a few months until the B12 works, with the underactive thyroid I have good days and bad, but my hair has stopped falling out. I can still get very tired, but nothing like I was, and I am 1 pound off losing 7stone, so the tablets must be helping my weight loss. It might take a few months for your son to see the difference but give it time and it will happen.

Im going to get to Goal!!!!!
