I've strayed into here for info because I've recently changed my eating habits. I have been a SW yo-yo dieter for years but as I recently hit the big five-oh :)eek:) I reviewed my diet generally (meaning the foods I eat) and decided that I want to live a lot more healthily. I've swapped to green tea, wholewheat pasta, brown rice and things like celeriac or swede for my "potato" hit. Breakfast used to be something like Special K but I'm now stocking wholegrain muesli and a locally-made Shropshire Granola. I've also taken up running - following the Couch to 5k programme - so that has made me take a closer look at my carb/protein ratios. I'm signed up for Race for Life on 14th July and would dearly love to be able to run (read run as "jog" :p) the whole distance, but we'll see. So far I've lost a stone, but still a couple more to go.....

I'm very interested in eating a lot more healthily, reducing my portion size etc but I do have a terrible sweet tooth so it can be difficult at times. I have horses so I can drag myself off to the yard where there is no food, to distract myself, but sometimes the weather prevents this and I find my feet dragging me to the naughty cupboard

So I shall be frequenting the HEF as well as SW as I think I can mix and match the two....

hi domane, welcome to the forums :) good luck with your journey, you have done so well. loving your healthy and sensible approach to your new lifestyle. bx

Hi again, just wanted to let you know that it is all going well. I've swapped from SW to calorie counting so I can use MFP to log what I eat. I've also started fasting two days a week after watching the Horizon show. Aged 50, I am very interested in the health implications from doing this and if I lose a little extra weight then all the better!

I'm now totally converted to cauliflower "rice" and just bought a julienne peeler and tried courgette "spaghetti" over the weekend which was delicious... I don't think I'll ever eat the pasta version again! As much as I love my granola or home-made sugar-free muesli for brekkie, I'm sticking to plain oats, skimmed milk and cinnamon now as it is a LOT lower in calories! I'd rather have the option to follow up with a banana if I still feel peckish. I've also resumed eating off a smaller plate so that I look like I have got more. My husband eats huge meals, has a fast metabolism and burns it off quickly so I've kind of increased the size of my own meals over the years as they always look titchy compared to his, so I know that I need to get a handle on "proper" portion sizes, but I'm working on it!

I feel brilliant :) I have a flat stomach from no white carbs and the sluggishness they gave me is a thing of the past, I sleep well, wake feeling refreshed and have more stamina to keep me going through the day. My menopausal night flushes have also diminished for the time being which helps a lot in terms of feeling rested. I had a temporary hip injury which stopped me running for a couple of weeks but I completed my Race for Life in 35 mins, which I was chuffed to pieces with, considering I only commenced running at the beginning of May. I'm now 2lbs short of having lost TWO stone so I'm delighted...

hi jane wow you have done great and the pics show it well done x x x

Oooooh, Anna, those teas sound LOVELY. Where do you get them please?

Just thought I'd do another update. I have now lost just over three stone and am currently just one pound away from my first target. Desperately want to be nine stone something but I've had a busy couple of weeks which meant that my running had to go on the back burner and I think because I'm so close to target now, my body needs less calories obviously. I still enjoy my food and don't particularly want to lower my daily allowance any more, I'd rather burn it off but this week I joined my local gym for the winter and so I plan on working out at least four times a week - cardio and weight-training, so I'm confident the weight will shift pretty quickly now I've got back "in the zone". I still love running and completed a second 5K fun run a couple of weeks ago.... not much fun to it though.... it turned out to be something of a gruelling trail run so something of an eye-opener for me. Nevertheless, I finished 13th out of 23 - not bad considering I'm 50 and I've only been at it for just over 4 months!

I'm still very much following a healthy way of eating, low fat, low carb and I try to eat very natural foodstuffs. People who haven't seen me for a while tell me my skin is looking good, my hair etc, as well as the obvious lack of fat on my body now. I feel great, have a lot more energy and my menopausal symptoms have all but disappeared too, which is great.

You look great!

Blown away what great updates, you must feel like a different person. I'm so glad I came back here the inspiration is overwhelming. IM 47 myself had a full hysterectomy so my night sweats are like im in a swimming pool and they are getting worse with the bad foods that I have allowed to creep back into my life. I long for the control again, I love to take a short sprint in between buses when I am going to care for my mum. You look so proud and you should be too :)

Hellooo right back there!
