Trying something new

Hi all,

I've been on SW for over a year, and I have really lost my mojo lately. Reading about JUDDD and other fasting plans, I think it could fit really well with my lifestyle.

I was planning my first DD for monday, but now I'm getting excited, I'm thinking of starting tomorrow instead. I am not sure whether to do 2 or 3 DD's a week, but I do plan to count every kcal on up days to make sure I don't go over the top! I'd be happy with a pound a week loss.

I don't have any books, but reading online I have a rough idea of what to do. Here is what the calculator said:

I am going to run the plan past my husband, he is a major supporter of my efforts to lose weight, so I want him to be behind me on this.

Well, I had a good chat with my husband and he thinks the plan sounds good too and will suit me. We have agreed to give it a 2 week trial. My week will look like this (including today as an up day)

Fri: UD (2000)
Sat: DD (500)
Sun: UD (2000)
Mon: DD (500)
Tue: UD (2000)
Wed: DD (500)
Thu: UD (2000)

Then I think I will move to mon, wed, fri as DD's, I just wanted to make sure I get 3 in this week before weigh in on Thursday night. That will be an up day, but I'm going to just try to eat the same every Thursday so it hopefully won't mess up my results.

I've been making a list of kcals for foods I expect to be eating regularly, including some favourites I've missed while doing SW like wraps, different cereals etc. All in all, I'm really excited to do this plan. I am worried in case I put on weight, or can't hack the down days. I will keep a very close eye on my kcals every day, ups or downs. The other rule I'm making is if I quit on a DD, it's straight back on SW plan until I figure out what to do next.

My plan for tomorrow:

Lunch: 20 grapes 70kcal
Dinner: Hunger break pot 320
Snack: muller light 90kcal

Total: 470kcal

Looking good. I'd give it a month tho. It takes that long to tweak it to you own satisfaction for optimum weight loss. I came to JUDDD from SW too and have never looked back. I'm 5 weeks in and love it. I love being able to eat bread again and NOT having to have cheese. My first dd was awful but I got through it with help off here. Just make sure you drink a lot of water and don't be hard on yourself. One ruined DD is not a disaster. I do mine 5 pm - 5 pm, so no feeling hungry at night cos it's a straight 24 hours not 34.:) xx

Thanks ladybird! How much have you lost in those weeks (can't see stats on my phone)? I'm going to try going full days, and see how I go. I imagine the 5-5 is easier, but might just save all my DD food til as late as possible so I'm not too hungry at bed time.

Good luck lottiebird & well done on your loss so far =)

Thanks :) I've been yoyoing since September or so, so I'll be glad to get the scales moving properly downwards again. I'm so desperate to get into the 14s, it's taken far too long!

I'm with Lb give it a month, if nothing else we are both testament to the perpetual tweaking that goes on with this plan, I'm still not sure I've got it right and I'm into week 5 today!

Thanks ladies. I will give it 4 weeks (unless I start gaining).

Today I'm feeling good about my DD, tomorrow I'll be having hot dogs guilt free, so it seems like a fair trade off :) hubby is off to get me a 2l wild cherry pepsi max to help me through.

Do you think I'll be ok weighing in the evening on an up day if I make sure I eat the same up til I weigh? I have noticed that weight seems to fluctuate a lot for people on this plan.

Your husband sounds really supportive :)

I always weigh-in after a down day in the morning, but if you try to stick to the same day and time every week it should be fine.

Fingers crossed you'll be in the 14's soon x

I know 14s isn't by any means skinny, but in my mind it sounds within the realms of normality (if that makes sense), so it a huge milestone in my mind. I have been in the 15s for what feels like eternity. I am surprised I didn't come off SW earlier to be honest, I have been around the same weight since september. I really hate weighing in there every week, and the whole atmosphere really isn't my thing, so I'm hoping that in due course I will stop going there to weigh in. The only worry is that when I did stop going and tried from home, I was gaining. I will keep going for at least the next 4 weeks anyway to see how JUDDD is working for me.

I really really hope this plan will work for me... It sounds too good to be true. I very often go all day without eating anyway, so thats nothing new. The evening will be more challenging, but if I just save all my kcals til then, I think I'll be ok.

I have tracked down the Eat, Fast and Live Longer documentary, so I will give it a watch once its downloaded. Having a restful sofa-day with the husband and our kitty :)

Can't believe your UP is already planned LOL, but I do believe you will have better success doing it that way, the first couple of weeks I didn't count calories and I stalled week 3 due to just that! Well done for getting through the DD yaaaaaaaayyyyyyy!

Hey lottie, great start... well done on the 24 hour fast.. I would have woken up missing a finger or 2 lol :)

Thanks! I've really enjoyed my up day today guilt free, which is something new for me. Crumpets, hot dogs, lemon meringue pie... and I didn't break my diet :D AND I still have about 630 kcals for later!

I'm still debating how to approach my down day tomorrow, as I am at work. I am thinking of just grazing on a few items through the afternoon (crackerwheat, laughing cow light, grapes) and saving 300kcal for the night. I should get through the morning ok.

I am going to spend some time on MFP tonight inputting a plan for the rest of the week til weigh in day, much better than planning on SW where I would cut and paste the same stuff over and over through the week!

10[SUP]th[/SUP] Feb 13 Up Day
3 Crumpet 294
3 Finger Rolls 297
Bertolli Light 30 g 105
Ketchup, 30 ml 36
3 Herta Frankfurter 294
Lemon Meringue Pie 331
Weetos, 50 g bowl 189
Whole Milk, 300 ml 192
Special K Chewy bar 95
Velvet Crunch 83
Total: 1916

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed my food today :) I have eaten ALOT, but I have weighed and measured meticulously, so I am just going to trust it. I have planned some foods to take to work with me tomorrow in case I start flagging on my DD, but I am hoping to hold out as late as possible, and if I can, eat it when I get home in the evening.

Plan for tomorrow

Weight Watchers Lasagne 257
10 Red Grapes 35
Laughing Cow, 2 triangle 50
5 Wholegrain Crackerbread 95
Alpen Light 63
Total: 500

Well, no food in as yet :) 2nd DD is going totally to plan. I feel like I have so much more energy the last few days, and my mood is a lot better (although I did get a bit irritable at work). Some odd hunger pangs, but knowing I still have 500 kcal for the day is helping me put off eating til later.

I am really worried I won't lose weight though. I've read a lot of people being unsure of the plan. Also someone at work has been doing 5:2 along with SW, as when she did plain 5:2 (for 1 week only) she STS. She also reports her friend is doing 5:2 and not losing, but she drinks a lot of wine. I am not put off by this, I am doing 3 fast days as opposed to 2, counting all my kcals and I drink alcohol about once a year! But it does make me think. I think tweaking the plan seems like a risky idea, judging from others' experience, so I am going to just keep on with the plan in my head until further notice, and hopefully the scales will be on my side.

I shouldn't say this, as I'll curse myself, but I am actually looking forward to weighing in this week, which may be a first. I think its mostly just curiosity as to whether it works. I wish this part of the forum was as busy as SW so I could see how a large number of people have done over a long period of time. Seems like this way of eating is only just starting to just get on people's radar (myself included) so only time will tell.
