Steps In The Right Direction...86.6lbs Lost Fasting

Fasting Rocks
Hi everyone, I'm Ali and I thought I'd start a diary to help me on my weight loss journey. My weight has crept up and up over the last decade till I'm now amply filling a size 20. I feel uncomfortable in my own skin at this weight and have decided to do something about it. Fasting is the diet that appeals to me most as it would fit in best with my life and something I feel I could stick at till goal and beyond. I've never really given any diet much of a go in the past but I think that now I am in the right positive frame of mind for giving it my all. I'm also doing it for the right reason...for me, not to please anyone else. Yes I would like the obvious health benefits of losing over 6 stones but to be honest my main reasons are vanity and being able to look good in a pair of skinny jeans! :p I intend on fasting at 500 calories 3 times a week and keeping the other 4 days reigned in at no more than 2000 calories. Sometimes my fast days may end up being 2 days in a row to fit in with social commitments but according to what I have read extensively online about fasting that isn't a problem. I will weigh in daily and record on here and will give a resume of my day's food. I'm not looking for quick results and intend to stick at this way of eating for as long as it takes and not jump ship or change plans as I have no real goal date in mind. It has taken me a long time to get to this size so I have to accept it will take time to remedy it. As long as my calories in are less than the calories I need I WILL lose weight. :) I look forward to getting to know you all and giving each other moral support as we all deal with our own weight battles.

Welcome to the forum Ali. Your right it does help if you take it slowly & allow your body and mind to adjust to a new WOE. In my case it was fast off & twice as fast to creep back on :) Good luck!

Thanks both of you :) I'm happy to lose weight slowly and steadily and if this way of eating helps me do that I will be very happy.

I haven't managed to weigh in the last 2 mornings as I've been in extra early at work (7.15!) and am again tomorrow so Saturday official weigh in will be a surprise...hopefully a good one!

Tuesday was an UD and I didn't count. I was going to but then thought go with just eating sensibly. And I did. Went to bed satisfied but not stuffed on chocolate and junk and didn't use the day as a reward for doing the previous DD. I had some semi skimmed milk for my cups of tea, soup and crackers and cheese for lunch, baked trout with new potatoes and stir fry veg for dinner, a packet of crisps, a caramel wafer and 4 tea biscuits with my various cups of tea. Yesterday was a DD and I had soup and crackers with a cheese triangle and some semi skimmed milk and came in at 441 calories. Today has been an UD and again I've just tried to eat "normally". I had two slices of granary bread toasted, with butter, with alphabetti spaghetti (how grown up!) for lunch with some cheese on top. I had a veggie sushi snack pack in the afternoon. For dinner I had breaded haddock, new potatoes, carrots and mangetout. This evening I've had some white chocolate and a ready to eat chilli and lime chicken snack pack. And during the day I used some semi skimmed milk in tea. All set for another DD tomorrow. :D

Thanks ladies :) I managed a sneaky weigh in this morning and the scales showed a 4.6lb loss so far :D I know on the first week of any diet the results are to do with water loss and the like so not a true reflection but is still a great boost. DD today and so far haven't had anything to eat just some black tea.Have a sushi snack pack and a Linda McCartney Moroccan butternut pot meal for later which will bring me to 479 calories for today.

So first official weekly weigh in this morning. After 5 days with 3 DDs and 2 fairly sensible but uncounted UDs I was amazed that the scales showed a 6.6lb loss. I know the figure is so high as it was my first week and look forward to seeing the results of next Saturday's weigh in after 4 uncounted UDs and 3 DDs.

Great start! A nice drop the first week is always a morale booster & you seem to have a good set up there foodwise :)

Thank you all xx

Had a good weekend. Ate what I wanted but didn't feel the need to pig out or binge...probably because I could have anything I wanted and that took the "fun" out of it!! Saturday I had a big bowl of porridge made with semi skimmed milk and a banana. Crackers with houmous. A massive veggie stir fry with noodles, water chestnuts and a chow mein sauce. A Sainsbury's triffle, 6 squares of white chocolate and a packet of crisps. Sunday I had vegetable and rice soup followed by a huge portion of shepherd's pie and green beans. Then crackers with houmous. 3 squares of white chocolate, a Daim bar and a packet of crisps. DD today and so far have just had black tea but having soup and a Linda McCartney chilli bean pot meal in an hour or so. Will bring my calories for the day to 482.

Well done on that loss, that is fantastic! x

Thank you....was a good first week for sure! x

It really does take the fun out of going nuts with food when you can eat anything you want!

There really is no fun in it. It's weird the way your head works with food sometimes....if you can have it....you don't want it just because the thrill and anticipation of being naughty isn't there.....and if you can't have it you do nothing but obsess over it and throw major strops any toddler would be proud of!!
