    New year - another new start!

    Hi I'm Lesley and having tried every diet known to man and eventually giving up, I am determined that the new year is time for a new start!

    I'm 48 and am finding that the older I get, the harder it is to lose the unwanted lbs and the easier it is to gain even more weight, which is not good as i have knee and hip problems. I really need a new way of eating, something that I can stick to long term rather than a diet that tells me what I can and can't eat. So, I've promised myself that I am going to stick to 500 calories three days each week, eating sensibly the remaining four days, not counting calories but writing down everything that I eat and see how that goes. As my main problem is getting bored with following a 'diet' I hope that this way of eating might work for me

    My aim is to lose 38lbs and I'm not fussed if I only lose 1lb per week as long as I lose it rather than gain!

    Happy new year to everyone and I let's hope this is a successful one in weight loss terms for us all!

    Hi Lesley. Here to subscribe. Like you I am sick of fad diets. My aim this year is a healthy diet, no more yo yo-ing. My aim is to lose 1lb a week, I'm in it for the long haul now.
    Best of luck
    Lucy

    Hi Lucy - very best of luck to you too. Who would believe that making sensible choices with regards to what we eat can be so difficult to follow! I'm with you with regards to being in this for the long haul - I'm fed up of losing 7lbs and then gaining 9lbs! One of things I need to improve is my meal planning - I currently don't plan and so just grab anything I fancy when i get home from work which results in undoing any good I have done during the day at work! I'm hoping that writing everything down that i eat might help with this.

    Hopefully we will both be at least 1lb lighter this time next week

    I am exactly the same, during the day I stick to healthy eating then on an evening it will all go wrong! Like you say I get home and grab anything. I'm hoping to get a slow cooker to help prevent this so when I get home late some days I know there is something healthy available rather than have anything.

    Today is my weigh in and I'm 13sf 11lbs 3/4. My first goal is 13st 7 (which I was before Christmas)

    I'm currently 13st 10lb and was also 13st 7lb just before Christmas too. I had been 12st 7lb for ages, but since June this year the lbs have piled on. I have a slow cooker and would highly recommend it - I find the meat really tender. I tend to use mine most at the weekend which is crazy really as it's in the week I would most benefit, as you say coming home to a meal already cooked! My husband and son both work shifts so in the week we rarely eat together and the weekday evenings are definitely my worst times. I do hope you see a loss when you weigh

    I've done OK today - stuck to my 500 calories:

    Cuppa soup = 45 cals
    4 crackers =76
    1 light laughing cow cheese triangle = 25
    WW lasagne = 245
    Sprouts = 43
    Carrots = 35

    Total = 469cals

    Tomorrow is an eating sensible but no counting day. We are taking my dad out for his birthday tomorrow evening so will be eating out so let's see whether I can make sensible choices with a menu full of tempting meals in front of me!

    You have done super today-well done.
    I have tried the 5:2 diet, which is the same as the Judd, but I worked at the time so the hunger didn't bother me because I couldn't snack. Now because I'm a student teacher it doesn't work for me. Shame as the health benefits are suppose to be brilliant x

    I tried the 5:2 diet sometime last year too and lost a couple of pound then nothing! Of course after a couple of weeks or so, I gave up so I didn't really give it a fair try! (I did warn that I've tried most diets and that I get bored with them and give up!)

    I'm hoping that 3 days of 500 cal intake will have more of an impact but I also realise that I do need to be careful with the calories on the 'up' days. I'm trying to think of this as a lifestyle change rather than another diet but my main problem is total lack of willpower to stick with anything if I am honest!

    Good luck with the teaching - hard work but very rewarding I would think.

    Well, after a good start on Thursday, I went out for a meal on Friday evening so didn't intend starting for real with 3 x 500 cal intake days until Monday (yesterday). Saturday and Sunday I managed to eat normal meals but didn't count calories. Yesterday went well:

    4 crackerbread = 76
    2 x laughing cow lights = 50
    Sugar free jelly = 10
    WW meal = 250
    Veg = 50

    Today (up day) no calorie counting but I think I've done OK.

    Tomorrow will be my 2nd 500 cal day of the week.

    Wednesday, my 2nd 500 cal day this week went OK, just 13 cals over my 500:

    Noodles - 322
    WW tomato soup = 75
    1 slice dry toast = 116

    Total = 513

    Need to focus on trying to make healthy choices on my non calorie counting day tomorrow!

    Hi Lesley,
    I know you can do it! I have been doing this for just over a year and it is a great way of losing weight. It becomes a way of life. I am much better on DD's as I find it easy to fast, keeping busy is the key! I didn't lose as much as I should last year as I tended to eat too much in UD's. This year I am following a low carb diet on the UD's in the hopes it gets rid of the last stone and a half.

    Good luck!
    SilverS
