Hello all. I have just started fasting today, this is my very first down day so I thought I'd start a diary here for my own sake to see where I have been. I am not new to weight loss as you will be able to see from my profile. I've been about here for years! Still weigh much the same though :-(
I have read plenty about this way of eating and think it may work well for me. I am going to go the 4:3 route to see how it goes and plan to make my DDs Monday Wednesday and Friday, weighing in on a Saturday morning. I really can't decide whether or not to count my UDs in any way, calories or whatever. The thought of just eating what I fancy is a terrifying one but it does work for other people and is of course much more doable than counting everything, especially in the long term.
I am going to stick to meal replacement shakes for the first 2 weeks, as recommended in various places. Makes it easier to be precise at the beginning anyway. I have committed to 3 weeks of this regime totally 100%, then I have friends coming to visit, I have promised them to stick to it until they are over no matter what and then reassess then.

DAY ONE!! Weight 213 pounds

(I am a serial weigher so am going to try really hard to stay off the scales until Saturday morning)

Thank you, good to see you here. Are you having a good day? I am doing shakes so have had one so far and will have another later taking me to 430 calories. I might have a snack to make that up to 500 but I'll see how I feel later. It's almost a relief not to be eating because I was away at the weekend and ate everything in sight. Hope every DD is as easy (so far) but I suspect they won't be. Will you be counting your UDs in any way?

Sounds like you're doing really well! I had a wobbly moment just before school run (we walk) so grabbed a malted milk biscuit. Not the healthiest choice but not too bad calorie wise and gave me sugar hit I needed.

Will try and be better prepared for next DD!

Am just heating up butternut squash soup and looking forward to dinner!

Sorry forgot to answer, won't be counting UP days to begin with, just watching portion sizes etc. However if weight loss isn't great I'll start counting cals on UDs :)

So day one DD done and may they all be as easy! I'm not silly enough to think they will be :) 497 calories in today and an up day to look forward to. I might vaguely count calories because I need some control somewhere and I don't want to go completely daft!

I'm going to be doing Monday Wednesday and Friday too, suits my lifestyle and I can enjoy the weekend. It's funny I got up this morning knowing I could eat whatever I wanted and this was such a bizarre concept that I couldn't decide on anything! I have just had a slice of toast and think I'll have yogurt and nuts in a while. Sandwich with all the trimmings for lunch and I'm making a shepherds pie for dinner. I am going to track things vaguely with my fitness pal just to keep an eye on things. Up days are hard!

How did your UD pan out? Hope you enjoyed it :)

I did enjoy my up day but I need to get rid of some of this guilt surrounding eating normally! I had a slice of toast first thing, then yogurt with nuts and seeds added mid morning. Sandwich for lunch with ham, cheese, tomato, cucumber and pickles with a bag of crisps and a cereal bar. Dinner was a cottage pie made with loads of veg as well as mince, lentils, celery, carrots, tomatoes, sweetcorn, it was delicious. Enough left over for the starving masses today.
I'm on a down day today, just having my first shake as we speak and so far the day is going well. Amazed that I can manage to do this so easily and hopefully it will show on the scales on Saturday, fingers crossed x

Another DD drawing to an end (thank goodness!) Hasn't been bad today at all, Still headachey like on Monday, I'm hoping that will settle as days go on. Looking forward to an UD tomorrow and very curious about weigh in on Saturday. I can see this working for me long term so really hoping for some weight loss!

Sorry to hear about the headaches, I hope they settle down soon!

I'm really looking forward to weigh in too, but I think I'm going to wait until Sunday.

UD today, woop! Kit kat chunky for breakfast, probably not the best start but my small son bought it for me yesterday and it's been taunting me ever since. It was lovely! I will be tracking calories today to try to stay within a sensible limit. Here's to a great day!

Kit Kat chunky...yummm! Hope the rest of the day was just as delicious!

I decided to go with a DD today, so that's my two done for this week :)

Are you on a DD tomorrow? If so then hope it goes well!

DD today and even though it's Friday that's fine with me. Is it wrong that I'm finding the DDs easier than the UDs? I know I ate far too much yesterday, I am just hoping that the novelty of guilt free eating will wear off and I'll wise up a bit as the weeks go on. Having said that, tomorrow is an UD and I'm planning pizza (out of the freezer, not take away) which we always have on a Saturday night in this house but which I either don't have cos I'm on a diet or else I eat and feel really guilty about it. I also plan to get some of my favourite crisps (M&S Reduced far sour cream and chive) and there will be vodka too!
I had initially planned to fast Monday, Wednesday and Friday giving me 2 days off at the weekend but I'm changing that this week. A friend wants to go out for pizza on Wednesday night so Sunday will turn in to a DD meaning Tuesday and Thursday will be too. That's what I love about this, you can work it around real life so easily :)
So, 2 shakes today and a 70 cal snack for 500 in total. I think maybe that's why I enjoy DDs, the shakes mean I'm not tempted to add extra or take more than I should. My book arrived yesterday (I ordered the "Every Other Day Diet" book, heard her on the radio, that's what started all this) but I haven't had a chance to read it yet grrrrrrrr!! I'll do that today.
Have a great day everyone!

OK weigh in day today. First of all I have to remind myself that I was away last weekend and it was a really bingey one, food and alcohol so there would have been a lot of fluid weight there, also I have been on plan since Monday so 3 DDs and only 2 UP BUT *drum roll please* I have lost 10 pounds! Yes TEN pounds! Can't believe it! I am sooooo pleased that this week was a good one, gives me so much motivation. Also for the first time in my life I am on an eating plan that I can see myself staying on forever, that's never happened before. Best of all there's pizza for tea tonight :)
So if I can lose 2 pounds a week over the next 2 weeks then that will be a stone before my friends come over (the ones I was staying with last weekend) That would be quite an achievement!

Who cares if some of it is water weight that's a fantastic first week weigh in!! :woohoo: I'm really glad I'm not the only one who thinks this can be a sustainable lifestyle to reaching and maintaining a healthy weight. You mention fasting and people always say "why would you want to starve yourself?!" and it's not that at all. It's a way of cycling calories to lose or maintain weight while still being able to enjoy food and social occasions without guilt. Really happy for you :D

That's how I see it too. Before now when I was on a diet I was looking in to the future and saying to myself "I'm going to have to do this FOREVER" which was really depressing. Now when I say that about this regime, that feels fine.

Wow wow wow! Fantastic result!

I totally agree that for once in my life, I'm on a plan that I feel I could easily continue with for the rest of my life!

Congratulations on your brilliant first week :)
