24 hr fast, motivation and support requested!

Phoenyx

Step away from the cake..
I've had a couple of goes at 24 hr fasting in the last month, none of which have been successful. I just sort of say, oh what the hell, and eat after about 16 hrs. I never really get out of my comfort zone, but this time I'd like to push the boundaries a little.

I last ate at 5.30pm. To totally clear out my system, give it a break from food and promote far burning, and to get over this psychological hurdle, I'm going to only have water and black coffee until 5.30pm tomorrow, when I'll break the fast with a light meal to make it a DD day.

So I'm going to try and come on this thread regularly and post an update. Hopefully it will motivate me to see it through!

PLEASE NOTE: this is a personal choice, not necessarily recommended on juddd - if you are new it is highly recommended that you follow juddd to the letter for the first two weeks. Visit the juddd website for more info.

Okay so 13.5 hours in. I didn't sleep well. Not sure if that was food related, I guess that's why I'm keeping track of this. I never sleep well after a down day, I sleep better on a full stomach.

Tummy feels flatter and emptier even though I only stopped eating a few hours before bedtime. If I'm fasting for 16 hrs, I tend to eat right up to bedtime, and not in the morning. I wonder if I should try more evening fasts. Might sleep better once I'm used to it?

Anyway, better get up and get ready for work. have a good day folks.

Good luck, as you know I fast every DD and its usually from about 8pm on an UP as thats the last time I eat , all of the DD till the next morning at about 9am so about 36hrs, I find it so much easier than eating on a DD as the hunger pangs don't kick in with me anyway until I eat, so tea coffee and my 150 cal milk allowance is all I have, and water and zero cal pop too of course. Just to add I don't intend on doing so many hours thats just the way it works with the way I eat x
@gettingfit, no I don't get light headed or anything in fact I feel great on a DD .
You can do this Phoenyx xx

How's it going P ??? You've done breakfast and lunch now the next meal is yours xx

Don't you feel light headed or sick?

Only 10 more hours to go.:)

No - I feel a little hungry from time to time but that's it. I chose to do it on a busy work day - time flies when you're teaching!

According to Mark Sisson (Mark's Daily Apple), once you're adapted to burning fat, your body just switches to burning your fat stores. Its one of his ways of telling if you are truly fat adapted. If it disrupted my work, I would not consider doing it - feeling light headed or sick in front of a class of hyper teenagers year olds is my idea of hell! I need to be really on the ball for some classes. But I have found that fasting in the morning really clears my mind and I actually perform better. Apparently this is a survival technique - if you, as a caveman, haven't eaten for 16 or so hours, you need to be alert and on the ball, not lethargic and foggy headed, in order to find food. Makes sense.

But, if it didn't work for me I wouldn't do it, and I wouldn't stress about it. Some evenings I think, oh yeah, I'll skip breakfast and then I wake up hungry and so eat anyway! Its a flexible thing for me, a test rather than a challenge or a thing to dread.

Nearly there. I couldn't get on line all day - v frustrating, because I wanted to post updates. Instead I saved them onto my phone. I'll post them later. But its been fine. A little peckish at lunch time and now I really would like some food, but there's only an hour and a quarter to go.

Surprisingly, I haven't wanted to drink water. I have been drinking weak black tea with a sweetener in (not very paleo, but that's life). I'm delighted that I've done it though. It really hasn't been hard and committing to do it in front of you lot has really helped my commitment. So thank you very much!

Now I need to decide what to break my fast with... mmmm

Not long now Hun you've done so well I actually skipped breakfast this morning as I wasn't hungry ....like you say I'm just listening to my body x

You're so right! I was fine all day but only struggled in the last 20 min coz I knew food was near.

Next time I'm going to be a bit better prepared - at 5.30 I was actually at my daughters swimming lesson so by the time I'd cooked, id fasted for 25 hours. But delighted I did it :) :)

I was craving soup, so next time I'll cook up a batch, so its really quick to warm up - it'll stop me getting grumpy at the kids when they're in my way and I'm trying to cook!

I had a litre of water, was really thirsty!, then had a bowl of stir fried veg to take the edge off my appetite whilst dinner cooked. Then I had a large pork chop pan fried in coconut oil and some more veg. I've cooked another chop but am stuffed :) if I'm hungry later I'll have a peach and some Macademia nuts. Am delighted I did it :)

You did Really good ! if you do it again I'll do it with you, or anyone else who wants to do this.

Aww thanks. It's going to be a once a week / every two week thing for me depending on how it affects the scales and me generally in the next few days...

I could do it but a Friday might be best for me as that's the day I don't train x
