JUDDD disaster

Right, I started on Saturday. Excellent first DD of 470 cals.
On Sunday morning had dropped 1lb-that was my first UP day.
Had another good DD yesterday with 466 calories, and I've ran 4 miles each day.
Yet today I've not only not lost anything but I've re-gained the 1lb.

Sooo down, I really though this was the diet for me. How can I possibly allow myself to be UP today. Has anyone else started off sooo badle, I'm so disappointed.

Hi Hon, don't beat yourself up, you're doing brilliantly. Your body will get used to JUDDD, but you need to give it at least 4 weeks. I'd also advise against weighing daily to be honest. I used to be a daily weigher, but I get downhearted if I don't see an immediate change or if I see a gain, so I've decided to only weigh weekly, after a DD.
Keep your chin up, Hon and keep going. You may be in for a surprise when you weigh in after your first week. Good luck. xx

Didn't you only start 3 days ago? It is not possible to see the effects of something in only a few days. Fat burn does not happen overnight, it is a slow process.

Cheers Guys,

Still feel a bit fed up but run done for today and although I'm UP I'm gonna try to be good

As the others have said, you need to give this way of eating some time.... it seems to take the body several weeks to understand what it needs to do when we do JUDDD. Also, if you were doing normal calories restricting I doubt it'd show a loss either in only 3 days? Just stick with it, it does work :)

Thanks Scarlett-I was expecting quicker results as some of my recent gain was 'holiday pounds' from being away last week. Sometimes they fall off a bit quicker.
Still on it though

You're looking at water gain/loss at the moment, gill.

Give it a couple of weeks and you will see the real loss.

BUT I must caution you, the weight loss here can be slow, a lot slower than some people like. So grab a tape measure, you will definitely notice inch loss more than pounds as this 'diet' forces the body to utilise fat for fuel!

I love my back now - no rolls of back fat, no bra bubble nor any hug handles and a vastly reduced muffin top!

So it can take a few weeks then? I had very good first week then last sun weighed 8lbs more than 2 days before..! Clothes bit looser and feel better but so disheartening. I've been doing the 5-5 regime .. Ideas?

Ignore the scales if the bounce upsets you and sets off that thing you are NOT ALLOWED!!!

GUILT does not exist in JUDDD (or similar).

1. Measure your wobbly bits and track them getting less wobbly. Ignore the scales.

2. Join one of the NSV threads (Non Scale Victory) and see what the rest if us like to include as a win (my sig gives a small clue).

3. Weigh in once a week or month or term etc. Some of us weigh in daily, but we are nosy and don't let the scales bounce scare us, we are just curious. If it bothers you. do less of it :)

4. Remember this isn't actually a diet! It is a way to eat that makes you healthier and has weight loss as a pleasant side affect

I hope some of that helps :D

Thanks. Still slightly disheartened but still on my UP day. However, I've had about 1300 cals and not that bothered about eating more cos weigh in aside, I've just had 'one of those days' alround.
So looking for advice- is it better to eat more or am I fine to leave it?

I'm afraid you are going to have to be a bit more patient on JUDDD.
The same simple science of weight loss applies with JUDDD as with most if not all other days. 1lb of fat contains 3,500 calories which need to be 'burnt' to lose on the scales. As you;ve been on holiday and put weight on, the 1st pound loss was water & stored glycogen, your body is working on the fat loss as we speak. With JUDD you have the added bonus that the 'fast days' turn on the 'fat burning gene' and regulate insulin.
It can take 2 weeks to turn this 'on'! You also get certain hormones that are released as well that help burn fat. The science behind eating an Up Day after a DD is to prevent the body going into 'preservation mode' where it reduces the amount of calories burnt because it recognises that you are with holding calories..so by being deliberately 'light' on UD calorie intake you are actually slowing down the weight loss process!
So be patient, keep your good DD's and relax on an UD and enjoy your 2000 cals..yum yum:D

Sorry Gill, advice...

There is only one rule EAT YOUR CALORIES

That's it! If the calculator say 456 and 1890 then that's what you eat.

Or stick to the 500 2000 generic numbers if that is easier.

But don't skimp on the Up Day kcals, it slows things down and makes the next Down Day really really hard!

In the end I did. But on reading the book Johnston says if you are not hungry then don't.

DD going well....so far.....

You're looking at water loss and not fat loss there. You should only weigh-in once a week after a down day.

Also forgot to add people seem to lose more inches than weight on this so measuring is a good idea!

Yahoo 4.6lbs off on first week of JUDDD-not such a disaster after all.

Thanks for all your encouragement to keep going
