Fasting until late lunch every day.. anyone tried it?

Hi

Just wondered whether anyone here has tried fasting every day until lunch - about 1-2pm and stopping eating by 9-10pm?

I know this sounds like the 8 hour diet, but I have never read the book.. the amazon reviews make it sound like its a rip off from the leangains website and also say it gives you meal plans.. but it sounds like on the leangains website they want you to train like a body builder and eat the right proportions of fat/carbs depending on whether your training today or not.

I'm not into exercise, aside from a slow walk with the dog, and I don't want to have to work out what percentage of carbs and fat I'm eating, I just want to eat in an 8 hour window what I like and fast the rest of the time. Has anyone done this and does it work?

I really struggle with fasting days on the JUDDD diet, but I'm fine up until lunch time, its the afternoons and evenings I really hate. I get moody!

Does anyone think that fasting in this way every day would work?

The way I see it I'm fasting for more hours in the week than the JUDDD or 5:2 diet so it has to be good?

Thanks! :D

I watched a documentary a couple of months ago on channel 4 (I can find the link if you like) and it was about the health benefits of fasting, any kind of fasting, including the type you mentioned, and yes it is very good for you, it has loads of health benefits and was proven to cause more weight loss than calorie counting alone. So I started doing it. I have never eaten a breakfast, not since I was a child, I get up very early for work and still never need a breakfast, I can manage until lunch time, so I went for the fasting every day. My aim is always to stop eating at 10pm and break my fast at 12pm but I can never manage to finish eating at 10pm, its normally 11-12 so my fast is normally only for 10-11 hours. My first week being strict I lost 4lbs. I haven't done it now for a while because I've been off work and my timing is all over the place but hoping to get back into it again this week. I find it easy but when it gets to the 12th hour it can be really difficult.

I think it is do able if you are pretty strict about what you eat in your eating window, as obviously its all about calorie restriction and if you normally eat only 200 cals for breakfast you're not really saving anything, there is an ebook called the IF Diet it might help you along the way, but I say go for it if it's working for you!

Hi I'm going to try this... Starting today. Did you start at all? I'm looking at a 3pm-9pm eating window as this fits in well with my exercise :)

I don't eat after 6pm until about 11am following day.Then I only have 2 big meals.One between 11am and 12am and the other about 5.30pm and maybe a piece of fruit 3pm.:)

Hi, how long have you been IF and have you noticed any weight loss as well as other changed? Mood/tiredness, etc? X

I started Paleo eating Apr 2012 and ate 3 meals a day until Oct 2012 when I got down to 8st 4lbs from 9st 7lbs.
Since then I have stayed roughly the same weight and do sometimes eat first thing in the morning but it depends on what I am doing during the day. It's not very often I get mood swings as I take cod liver oil with primrose oil capsules to help with them.As for tiredness only get that if I haven't had a very good nights sleep.I noticed cutting out the wheat, sugar, processed foods from my diet I don't feel bloated or sluggish so can keep going.

IF is part of Paleo way of living/eating so it fits in.My son who is a Paleo eater does whole days of fasting.:)

That's great, thanks for your info and help c

Hey! Wow that's a small eating window, what will you eat? And manage? Good luck though.

I kinda started last week, to be honest the fasting part wasn't too difficult, sticking to cals in my eating window was a nightmare though.

:)

Hiya
I eat fairly well anyway so I'm not going to be too worried about counting up the calories in the eating window. I am however, going to for this week just to make sure I don't overeat in the window!
I'm a teacher so have another week off work to try it out, may have to extend the window when I go back to work, but we'll see. If I do have to extend it, that's fine. I need to be flexible I think and find out what works best for my lifestyle/work, etc.
:)

Hiya! I do a 14 hour daily fast most days, from 10pm to 12 noon or thereabouts. It really suits me. :) xx

Excellent! How are you finding it? Are you cal counting in the eating window? :)

Yes, 1,500 a day. I find it suits me down to the ground as I've always eaten most of my calories late at night. I honestly can't remember when I started doing it, but it's been a while. Over the last 2 years I've lost just over 9 stone, so it seems to work ok. :) xx

WOW!!!!! That amazing-well done xxx

Hi, I love the sound of an 'eating window' and think would really suit me.

does it matter if your 'window' is 5/6/7 hours? And during that fasting period can you only drink water or are you allowed Calorie free drinks - diet coke?

Ive tried every diet under the sun and am looking for something that fits me this time rather than the other way around. Not eating until lunch would be my normal eating pattern so incorporating that with calorie counting sounds perfect c

Hi
I think you can have up to an 8 hour feeding window (recommended) and there are various versions. Some say water only when fasting, some say low cal drinks are fine. Black coffee and tea is allowed but I drink fruit teas instead. I think you need to do what you think will work for you :) good luck

Morning, that's great, thank you ladies!

any idea what I could lose in my 1st week with this? Just looking for a first week target to keep me motivated x

Yeah I'd be really interested to know too, how much weight people lose on average :)
