Kettlercise 12 Week Body Transformation Challenge

Hello Everyone

I'm pretty new to kettlebells, have been going to a local class for about a month and have just received a copy of the Kettlercise Just for Women DVD so I can work out at home as well.

I've decided to have a go at the Kettlercise 12 Week Body Transformation Challenge and thought I would have a thread here so that I can track my progress and how I am getting on with the programme.

The challenge is very simple really. Take some before photos and measurements, stick to a kettlercise programme for 12 weeks and then take some after photos and measurements. If anyone is interested in finding out more about the challenge then all the information can be found on the Kettlercise website.

So I plan to get my before photos and measurements taken tonight and I have devised my weekly programme which is as follows:

3 x 50 min Full Body Workouts (Classes with my local instructor count towards this or the 50 min workout on the DVD)
2 x 20 min Express Workouts (found on the DVD)
1 x 8 min Ab Workout (found on DVD)

I have created myself a tick chart so that I can cross off each workout as I get it done.

Once I've got my before photos done I will post them here along with my measurements. I will take photos and measurements each week and update this thread with my progress.

I'm also following Slimming World whilst completing this challenge and I think the two should work well together.

So there we go, that's the plan! Fingers crossed I can stick to it!!

Right well here's the hard part..... Posting my starting photos!!!

Just in from my Kettlercise class. That's my first workout of the challenge completed. Managed the whole class with a 6kg bell. I only struggled towards the end with core rowers and my least favourite... The plank!

I managed to hold the plank for 10 seconds about 3 times. I can hold it for longer at home but I think because it is always the last exercise of class I'm absolutely shattered and it's just too hard. Oh well I shall keep persevering and hopefully it will come in time.

Just completed the Kettlercise DVD 20 minute express workout.

I'd thought this workout would be a breeze after a month of Kettlercise classes but I was mistaken!! It's very fast paced and the exercises change quickly. I'd left the back door open so there would be a breeze but I soon worked up a good sweat. Had a few issues with sweaty palms and a slippy bell so will keep a towel nearby next time. Also had to keep telling the dog to go away as he was getting under my feet!!

Just going to chill for an hour or so before I make tea. A nice quorn cottage pie with loads of veggies tonight I think. Won't be a late night as I've got Kettlercise class tomorrow morning at 8:30!!! Far too early for a Saturday!!

Such a gorgeous day today! I'd almost forgotten what the sun looked like!!

Started the day off early with a Kettlercise class at 8:30. The class seemed to go on forever and I had to swap down to the 4kg bell for some if the 1 handed moves. I think I'm not made for working out first thing!

When I came home I decided to take the dog out for his walk and as I was already in my gym clothes we thought sod it and went for a run together. Not too far, probably a few miles but that's the first run I've done in months so I was glad I could do it and I know the dog enjoyed it too.

Made some banana egg pancakes for a good protein hit and topped them with some fat free Greek yoghurt and strawberries.

Muscles are feeling quite achy now and I'm glad I only have an 8 minute ab workout to do tomorrow.

You look great already! Post when you get that number down! I love seeing transformations!

Ahh thanks. I will definitely post progress pics when things get a little less soft around the middle!!

Just completed the 8 minute ab workout. Really enjoyed this and could definitely feel it working. I don't think I get as much out of the an workouts in class as they are always at the end and I'm knackered by then so find it hard to give the exercises my all. That's why this short workout will be great as I can do it on its own and give it 100%.

Another 50 min class complete. The instructor came up to me at the beginning and asked why I had 2 different sized bells. I explained I still struggled on some of the one handed moves with the heavier weight. He said that instead of swapping down a weight I should continue with the heavier weight but just work to failure. With that he took away my baby weight and the class started.

Well the good news is without the temptation if the baby weight I worked really hard, pushed myself and could actually complete nearly all if the exercises. I couldn't do anywhere near as many kettlebell punches as the instructor but I did what I could at a pace I could just about handle. In all honesty for swings and squats I think the 6kg is already getting too easy.

Managed 2 10 second planks and 1 15 second one right at the end so that's a small improvement from earlier in the week.

I've felt much more svelte today. My jeans are definitely baggy and I can easily get them off without undoing them. And I think, if I look at the right angle in the right light that I have a hint if an ab starting to show through!!!

Completed another 50 min Kettlercise class last night which completes my first week of the challenge.

I decided to push myself last night and used an 8kg bell for the class. It was hard work but this is definitely the weight for me for some of the big compound moves like swings and squats. When I switched back to the 6kg for some of the one handed moves it felt so light!!

Today is my rest day and I'm looking forward to relaxing my muscles a bit. It's also my weigh in day for slimming world so I'm hoping for a loss but I have this horrible feeling I'm in for a gain or STS. Since starting Kettlercise I've only lost 4lb in 4 weeks. Previous to starting I was loosing on average 2lb a week. It's hard to not let this bother me but I need to remember that my body shape will be changing and I'm getting fitter. It's just frustrating as I'm only 1lb away from my stone award and it just seems to be taking ages to get there! It's my birthday next week and I would love to get my stone award before then. Fingers crossed!!

Well done Wegle! Keep it up.

Well done Wegle! Keep it up.

Thanks hun, really enjoying it so far!

Well I lost 1 lb at weigh in last night and got my 1 stone award!! Got Kettlercise class tonight which I'm looking forward to and I'm going to have to work extra hard as I may have allowed a couple of slices of my colleagues birthday cake to fall into my mouth! Oops! Worked it out at about 30 syns!!!! Not too worried though as I can cut back for the rest of the week to allow for it.

Just in from another 50 min kettlercise class. Tonight was our hard core instructor. An ex army PT called Rob. He always pushes us hard and is the one who told me to ditch my 4kg on Monday and just work with the 6kg. After working with the 8kg on Tuesday I wasn't confident I would be able to do a whole Rob class with the 8kg so I'll admit to being a bit of a wimp and just doing the whole session with the 6kg. The good news is it was far too easy, the only moves I struggled a little bit with we're the punches and the slow raise and hold. So decision made from now on I will be working out with an 8kg.

Slight problem in that I only have a 6kg at home and after this month a lot more of my workouts will be from home so I need to invest in a new bell. I've been given a bit of money for my birthday so I'll probably use that to get a shiny new 8kg bell for at home.

Squeezed in a quick 22 min express workout at home today after I'd done all the shopping and household chores. Husband walked in just as I was about to start with chips from the chippy and a bottle of wine!! I was good and resisted but it was touch and go for a moment.

I've ordered myself an 8kg bell with my birthday money and that should be here on Monday yay!

Hubby gave me a playful smack on the bum earlier and was shocked! When I asked him what was wrong he said it was like smacking a lump of concrete my bum is so solid!! It's obviously working then as I can assure you my bum was much more a lump of jelly 8 weeks ago than concrete!

I like your awesome motivation!

Welcome elm and Katie's World. Thanks for stopping by!

Unfortunately this weekend has been pretty quite on the Kettlercise front. I had intended to do the 50 minute workout at home on Saturday but ended up just running out of time. I do dog agility with my pooch and this Saturday was the first session back after the winter break. It started at 10 so I thought I would have plenty of time after it had finished to do the 50 min programme before I had to go to my tattoo appointment at 3. However I think as it was the first session back at agility it was very popular and we didn't get finished until 1pm and by the time I got home I was starving and just didn't have time before I went out again to get the work out in. I did however do a lot of running around at agility so I still got some exercise in.

After sitting for a 2 hour session on my tattoo I was far too sore to do any exercise Sat night and it was still very tender yesterday so nothing done then either! Good news is I've got class tonight and it's with my favourite instructor Rob so I shall get a good beasting tonight.

It's my birthday on Wednesday and I'm having my tattoo finished on Thursday which will be a 3 hour sitting. Wednesday is my normal rest day anyway but I shall have to forgo any belling on Thursday and Friday due to tattoo pain but I should be back into the full swing (see what I did there!) of things by Saturday.

Oops I'm a little bit behind with updating my thread. It's been a busy couple of days but the good news I've managed to get some kettlebells in!!

This will be a quick post as this is the first 5 mins I've had to myself since Sunday!!

Monday I went to Kettlercise class and did the whole class with the 8kg bell. I'm still really struggling with punches and have some nice bruises to show for my efforts! I know they will come though my strength and endurance have come on so quickly I have faith that I will get there.

Squeezed in another Kettlercise class tonight in between baking cakes!! The instructor we had tonight is not my favourite and she tends to just repeat the same moves over and over and doesn't really challenge us. The result is the class us a bit boring and I find my motivation desserts me. I think from now on I shall only go to Rob's classes and do my Kettlercise DVD in between. There's no point paying £5 for something that isn't worth it.
