Starting LL next week

Hi everyone,

Wow, I'm actually doing this. Years and years of thinking about being a lighter person and never doing anything about it and somethig in my brain has finally clicked. I have to do something about my weight. I am 19 stone at 5'8" ... I don't know why I am so shocked by my weight considering my eating habits and in total denial about how I look from the shoulders down. I own zero full length mirrors and look away from window reflections of myself. I comfort eat, I eat out of bordom, I eat without even realising I am eating as if I am on auto pilot. I eat when I am tired. When I am anxious. Food has been an emotional crutch for me for years. And, seeing that number. NINETEEN on my scales finally has frightened the life out of me.

I'm ready. I 'm terrified to give up my best friend - FOOD. That friend that is only there for a moment and leaves me feeling eventually empty and not liking myself very much.

Thankfully, my DH is very supportive. However, I am reaching out for support from anyone who will give it. That is why I am here.

Best of of luck to all of you and I Look forward to our weight loss journey together.

Good luck with starting, if you commit to the programme it really works. And you can pretty much guarantee not to see that 19 on the scale ever again
X

I am starting next week also and feel like you do re food. I need to get on with it and keep to it 100%

Yesdarling,
To give you a boost.... I just lost 10lbs in my first week. It's works! Best of luck!
Xx

Nomoreyoyo, that is amazing! Massive congrats to you! Wow! How did you find the first week? Was that your first/only week on LL? I am curious how long I will be on 4 food packs. It it until I reach goal? Is the first week strictly shakes? I only just found out how many calories I will actually be getting in one day. Quite scary to think about, really. My concern is if it is healthy. Surely it cannot be any worse than being morbidly obese which is what I am considered at the moment.

bradgirl, we should keep up with one another seeing as we are starting the same week :) you don't have nearly much to lose than me (i'm jealous!) ;)

I am a little worried though, the counsellor has put me on Total, but I thought that was if y had 3 stone to loose, . My BMi is 30 and they want me to be 25 . I don't think I have 3 stone to loose, it will take me way to low for my height and body frame size . . I will see what the doctors says

Lets do this shall we?

that's a great idea to start a blog! Will really keep you on track. As long as I can get my form signed by my GP on Monday I will be starting on Tuesday as well. :) Hopefully she won't have an issue but, you never know!
nomoreyoyo, is going well! We have to catch up now, definately! :)

I've just ordered some bio oil, burts bees vitamin e body lotion, a body brush (and a new mascara hehe) to get me motivated to moisterise my skin regularly to prepare for the weight loss. Going to start yoga today as well. I've cut down on my food intake since my initial meeting with my LLC. I actually do not feel hungry at the moment. Hoping it will prepare me a bit for my start date on LL next week. Drinking more water as I really need it anyway. My skin is dry and I'm dehydrated. A bit worried about drinking 4 litres of water per day. That seems like an awful lot? Cannot help but think of that lady on LL that drank 4 litres of water in 2 hrs and it killed her draining salts from her body and caused fluid on the brain. :-/

I'm curious about the actual taste of the LL shakes. I HATE slimfast shakes apart from the coffee flavoured one. The powdery taste. ick! Maybe I should invest in a blender so I can add crushed ice to the LL shakes? That *might* help?

Also, terrified of losing my hair. I lost a lot of hair after the birth of my twins (c-section). It was very distressing for me. :(

Hi Yesdarling, re the 4 litres of water, as long as you break it down, 3/4 pt of water before a meal and afterwards, and there's 3 meal during the day, and then I guess when we feel the need the water. I think that should help with the digestion as well, and possibly add up to 4 litres a day.

Yes I am like you I kind have started watching more of what I am eating, and drinking.

My main concern is my Counsellor has put me on Total, which I thought was for 3 stone or more to loose. I don't have 3 stone to loose!
Plus I would feel happier to be on Lite, where I can have a meal which will fit in to my life style more.

I perhaps need some advise on this, from anyone that has been on Lighter Life?

I would definitely recommend splitting the water across the day, it's not that much when broken down.

The packs taste a bit odd the first few days, but do improve so persevere and the hair loss doesn't effect everyone so don't worry too much about it. I have just noticed I am shedding more hair than usual but not on a massive scale and that is after nearly four months

Good luck!

Hi sorry for the late reply, work got really busy the last couple of days.
Yes this was the first week on LL, started last Thursday and first WI was Wednesday 12th - couldn't believe it when got on scales.

Mainly because, and to answer your q's, I really didn't struggle too much in the first week, I had a headache a couple of days but never struggled with any hunger pangs that I couldn't deal with. And mainly it wasn't hunger I was just really thirsty.

My WI number 2 has been moved forward to Monday which I am not really happy about - I wanted a full week! But will be interested to see how it goes as I think things will have balanced out by then.

Group was good too - was nice to talk to a group of people in the same. Oat - rather than my size 8 best friends trying to sympathise with me!!!

Good luck both of you, I'd like to stay in touch on here so we can spur each other on! Xx

bradgirl, I thought LLC base which diet you go on by your BMI? I think it is worth chatting to them about your concerns. I too am on Total but also have a very high BMI and twice as much to lose than you. Great that you are cutting back on food and drink, too. I don't drink a lot of alcohol so that bit isn't hard for me. I probably drink a glass of wine every couple of months. But, I love juices and Diet Coke. I have not had any in a couple of weeks now. I crave diet coke a little still. Yesterday, I tried Slimfast shake as I had some powder in the cupboard. It went down fine (still taste gross!) but I think I may try it again today just to get use to the texture of shakes. I ate a smaller portion of pasta with the family last night. Found that near bedtime I was hungry and went back to my terrible habit of toast before bed. Felt rotten afterwards. I have noticed the past couple of days as I have been paying attention more to what I eat (in preperation to starting LL next week) that I shove things in my mouth all the time. Even when I'm not hungry. I was amazed at how many times I had to stop myself yesterday. For example, when my twins ask for a snack (crisps or cheese, etc) I would usually eat one too (or two or three!) When actually, I wasn't hungry at all. Maybe just bored. Or, eating for the sake of eating. Amazing how I really need to change my thinking. Hopefully the LL sessions will help retrain my brain.

leesy, thanks for that. I suppose I will get use to the packs after a while. I expect it will be tough at first. As for hair loss, I plan to continue taking prenatal vitamins (assuming this is ok) strictly for healthier nails and hair (which is why I take them now), and I have ordered some Morrocan oil for my scalp, a wide tooth comb or gentle combing instead of brishing, some no sulphate shampoo from Liz Earle and Aveda Invati Scalp Revitalizer (apparently works well but is pricey) to work on getting my hair and scalp in better condition as it isn't great at the moment. I want to start new hair growth now if I can. Hopefully, like you, mine won't fall out too much. I just have a feeling it may since I lost so much after my pregnancy.

nomoreyoyo, you did amazingly well that first week. I am anxious to see how you do this coming week despite it not being a full week! I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised! Defiantely, you have inspired me!

right, off to tidy the house while my toddlers are busy playing daddy's ipad. ;)

If your starting bmi is less than 30 you'll be on lite - otherwise you'll be on total. Most people who start on total stay on total even once their bmi has dropped below 30 - but you can swap once your bmi is below 30 if you wish.

ah Thank-you for that, I have been on Lighter Life - web forum, and read a thread there of someone on Total, and this has kind of convinced me that I should be on that for a while, and should get a good weight loss - hopefully!

Well It's Saturday late evening, I am really looking forward to starting Tuesday. I find myself already planning events with LLTotal in mind. We are off for a picnic Thursday evening and I have already told hubby that it will not include me, as I presume I will eat before that time, and tell my friends why. I also a weekend booked away, watercolour course, where it does include food......but have emailed them, to say I will bring my own food as i am on Lighter Life. So i seem to be getting my head around it. Although I haven't told everyone what I am doing -why? Mmm maybe I think they might try and tell me otherwise. But I am feeling very committed to it and I haven't started yet!
I think I will tell friends, when that time comes, like on Thursday at the picnic........I hope they do some nice food ideas - any suggestions would help, like preparation of the packets.?

Hubby is very supportive and is starting to think about what food he will be eating by himself !

I am also hopping the golf will improve and will be able to enjoy the snack bar whilst out chasing that little white ball!

Hope you all have a good Sunday/Fathers day...
X

Once you can eat the bars (not initially I'm afraid so no good for the picnic...) could can take a bar along and eat it whilst everyone else is eating. Until then you could have a pack before you go and another when you get back. Or you could take a shake with you and make it up whilst there.

How long did it take you to loose 130lbs - that is amazing? Are you back to eating normal foods, or are you still on the packs?

I am looking forward to Tuesday, and also enjoying my last few days of eating food as I know it!

I feel very positive about the next few months coming up, and will just have to manage the socialising part of life. But I am sure once friends know about it, they will give me the support that I will need. My hubby, is already to start shopping for his food and cooking it, which I am grateful to. Lucky me.

Thanks. It took me 10 months - the first 6 months I was on total and the last 4 months I was on lite. I only reached goal just over a week ago so I have just started Phase 1 Management (P1M) where you slowly reduce the number of packs and slowly increase the different types of food which you eat.

WOW that is fantastic, are you enjoying your new clothes and your new body.
How did you manage socialising on LLT? As I am a little worried about that., but do able I think.

Did you have any side effects, that you want to share?

I am enjoying my new clothes thanks... my bank balance isn't though!

I still socialised a lot on LL. When on total I used to go out to restaurants and order a large bottle of sparkling water and a coffee. Sometimes I would eat my bar whilst people ate their meal. Some people ask for a mug of hot water and make up a soup - I never did that though. Because ketosis supresses your hunger it is pretty easy to do. I also go to the pub and drink sparkling water. There's nothing that I have avoided because of the diet.

I'm cold a lot of the time - that's a pretty common side effect. I have also suffered from constipation. I would suggest psyllium husks to help with that.

Here are some goal photos...
