once you get to goal you CAN keep the weight off

ok so its been almost three months since i reached my goal weight and ive exceeded it and other than going up or down 2-3lbs ive stayed the same. i am so pleased with myself and i thought you would like to know that once you get to goal, you dont have to put it all back on.

i also work hard to keep it off with lots of exercise and logging my calories into MFP every day (or most days) but to my mind its worth it dont you think? :D

Harriet - you're a legend. congrats on not just getting there, but staying there, that means so much to someone like me starting tomorrow.

Can i annoy you and ask for guidance when i come off, what were the key things you did to pull that off??
i.e. did you follow teh refeed and ongoing maintenance to the letter? do you eat low carb, etc???
would REALLY appreciate any insight i could use when i get to where you are now

Thanks you soooooooo much for taking the time to post the above, you're brill!
have a great weekend!!!:)

What was your starting weight Harriet? Well done x

Wow, well done! Great to read a success like this. :)

Would be really interested in this too. Have just done first 3 days so far but starting to wonder about when i come off it, how to manage weight gain then.

thanks for replying :) ok i can bore the pants off you with info if you want lol once i got to goal i did the refeed to the letter but elongated the days out a bit so did four days say day 1, four days day 2 etc as i still wanted to lose a couple more pounds and in fact lost 6 more lbs before i stuck at 146.5.after i started logging everything i ate, except for salad vegetables which consider so low in calories there arent worth logging so had lots of that to fill me up. i also had quite a few maintenance products which i used every morning and which did in fact keep me full up until lunchtime. i also kept in mind about not eating fruit until the evening at least as the sweetness would possibly set me off and make me want other sweet things.
so id have a bagel (cant eat bread) plus filling and lots of salad and a yogurt. then evening a proper meal (sometimes ready meal but always calorie counted) with counted vegetables, some fruit maybe etc and honestly id be full.
so i did this for quite a few weeks, went away to a hotel where i counted everything on MFP to the best of my ability, did lots of exercise to counteract it lol and maintained my weight throughout. then came my birthday christmas. i stayed the same over christmas but gained about 4lbs over new year which i lost in the next couple of weeks through reducing my calories a bit and upping my exercise.

ive found exercise is the key to my maintenance. i try to do something every day, be it walk the dog for a two or three miles, go to the gym or go for a long run or just a short run, anything so i can keep the weight down but also eat some of my extra calories if i feel i want to, which very often, i do. that said i always ensure i never have the full amount of allowed calories. im always under. its a control thing.

and answering your second question no i dont believe in low carbing. i dont eat bread cause i cant and being pretty active i need to eat carbs otherwise i wont function properly so no, i dont do that.

told you id bore you silly lol

anything else, just ask

weight gain when? if you follow the refeed to the letter you will probably lose a bit more, not gain anything. just make sure you drink masses (like 4-5lts a day) and you will be fine

Well done on your amazing journey, How long did it take you to loose Harriet?

WOW! WOW. Hariet, again, thank you sooooooooo much for taking the time to write all that, i really, truly appreciate it.
I actually lost a lot of weight and kept it off by doing pretty much everything you said just there,
as a result, felt "good enough" to start getting out there again to meet someone,
then met a great girl, whom i really loved, but it didnt work out.
Horrible break up, amicable, but still horrible! lol, and went straight back into the food.
am using teh lipotrim just to simply get a break from teh bingeing cycle, but i know that long term its about getting the pattern you have,
eating just under the cals allowed, discipline around exercise, etc...

But it means so much for someone to come on here and make it all seem real, IF you're prepared to make the changes.
You're brilliant!:)
I dont pray, but i do meditate, and i'll send you good enerygy in the next 30 mins! :-D

p.s. the idea of stretching out the refeeding days - genius. Makes such common sense, THANK YOU!!!! xoxo
