Nic's New Start

Right, one week in and 11lbs down, which is a lot, but I'm here for the long haul. I've tried so many times, but this time I'm trying a new tack. I'm dividing the diet into school term length targets as rather than focusing on losing 11stone, I've reached the thought that any permanent weight loss is better than none. I'm going to keep this diary as a self indulgent train of thought for me.

It's always the school holidays that trip me up, so I'll take them as separate target pledges, or refeed if I feel I need to.
I can't control how much I lose each week, only what I eat and drink. So my first pledge is to stay with TFR until half term. Four weeks away, eminently do-able, and until I get there I won't make another pledge.

I'm enjoying the shakes and the structure, I like being in control of my food for a change. But I don't want to make promises to myself I won't keep. I need to just take it day by day. Every day is half a pound or so off that I need to make sure doesn't come back - ever.
"I will not be the same weight I am today ever again" will be my daily mantra.

Right, feeling a bit maudlin now and want to make the most of my ketosis energy, so off to do some housework.

Good luck all xx

Hi Nic. You've made a great start! I agree that the best way to go is to take it one day at a time. When I get up every morning I still say to myself, today I will be 100%. I do have long term goals in mind though and I have written on a small calendar hidden away in my papers what weight I could be at the end of every month if I stick with this and every so often I get it out to look at and as of now I'm still on track. I also find it easier when the children are at school, just the daily routine fits in better with the LT lifestyle. The summer holidays is always in the back of my mind though and that's what really motivates me. I feel we had a miserable school holidays last year because of my weight. I was so fat and so unconfident I didn't want to do anything so we just stayed around the house mainly. I don't think my children felt it but I certainly did feel they missed out on a lot of fun last year and I want that to change ths year. So I keep taking it one day at a time, the summer will be here before we know it with no regrets for me this year. Best wishes.

Thanks Busy Mum, you are right, I felt exactly the same last holidays. Always making excuses for me to look after the bags etc whilst everyone goes off to have fun. The kids want to go to Alton Towers this year, and I want to be able to go without fear of not fitting in any of the rides.

You're exactly right! It would be lovely to join in instead of always standing at the sidelines.

Well done you're of to a fantastic start! keep it up x

Thank you for all the lovely comments, they are much appreciated.

Day 6 here and it's COLD! Partly ketosis, partly the weather, I'm drinking peppermint tea like it's going out of fashion. I also discovered peppermint and nettle, it's a bit sweeter and a nice change for bedtime. I really enjoy these teas, and don't know why I move away from them off diet. Not been too hungry today, more the beginnings of hunger at times, and got the shakes down. I'm beginning to go off the vanilla and coffee, so may get less of those next time.

I know you shouldn't, but had a cheeky weigh tonight. Trouble is, starting weight my scales were same as chemist and week one they were 5lbs more. They show a loss of -4lbs now, but who knows! I know, I just need to be patient till Friday, I haven't cheated so I know I've lost something!

I'm finding the most frustrating thing is that I've lost the first 4 stone a number of times. I've never made it to goal, but if I'd kept that 4 stone off how much easier would this be. That alone is giving me the motivation till Easter!

I'm wishing the week away, only Tuesday and I want it to be Friday to weigh! I'm in the swing of things now and just want the next few months to whizz by. This morning my clothes began to feel looser and easier on me if that makes sense, a great feeling. Only downside is my already sensitive sense of smell has gone into overdrive and I can smell everything, both good and bad Bleughhhh.

Here's to a successful Wednesday x

I'm glad you're finding it easier and you're in the zone. The loose clothes is a great boost.

Well, this week's been tough, and now I can't even weigh in today as I can't get to the pharmacy because of snow. :( I've enough packs till Monday AM just, but I'm substituting my brekkie one for an old porridge VLCD pack at the back of my cupboard. Not ideal, but rather that than go off plan. I was desperate to weigh as I've struggled so much and feel like I need a push in the right direction.
But I am determined to keep going. I've only got 3 weeks till half term, and then I can decide whether to add a carb free meal for a weekend away or keep going. I keep looking at my weight loss graph to imagine where I will be at the start of the summer hols if I stick at it until then. That is my long term goal this year, as that will take me to a lower weight than I've been since my early twenties.

Here's my list of things to remind me why I NEED to lose weight.

  • Worrying about fitting in chairs
  • worrying about flying and seat belts
  • Out of breath going up stairs
  • opting out of exercise even if it sounds fun
  • Can only shop at Evans
  • Scared I'll get diabetes
  • Scared I'll develop a heart condition
  • Setting a poor example to my kids
  • Missing opportunities

there are more, but these are a start, just to look at if the cupboard calls.

Fitting into chairs, my nitemare. When I was on holidays I didn't go to single restaurant as I was too embarrassed having to even try the chairs. On the plane over there I was overlapping into my child's seat, thankfully not a stranger. Evans have improveed on style over the years but my God they are so expensive. Hello primark please!!!! Close family members have diabetes and heart conditions. And as for missed opportunities.... I feel like everyday I'm missing out, all my life. I'm so fed up of it I think I might just do it this time around. Ur list is almost identical to mine. Pity u can't get to the pharmacy but by the time u do u will see a niiiiiice loss! :) shake away!! X

Although I'd wish it on no-one, it's nice to know others feel the same. I hope your weeks gone well.

I did get to the pharmacist today after all, hubbie came home early so I could rush in before closing. I'm so glad I did - 7lbs gone forever! I'm absolutely thrilled. It shows that 100% really works, and those little cheats do add up. I've got a fresh outlook and I'm ready for next week now. Bring it on!

I know, I'm so so happy for u! 7lbs is brilliant. Half a stone gone this week. :) ur getting on Fab. That'll keep u smiling into the week now! X x

Hi There Nic,

I too can state the same fears & anxieties as you. Chairs, Planes even seat belts for me. We had an old saab at one point if I drove that was fine But for some bizarre reason the seat belt in the passenger side was shorter, had a nightmare every time I got in.! Now I have a fiesta when I started this diet the sterring wheel touched my tummy every time I moved it. Now only 15 weeks after starting there is a massive gap between it & me!
Like you I have been here before but this time I have been very honest with myself. For the 1st time it ages I stood in front of the camera (day1) & allowed my 14 year old to take 4 pictures Front full length Side full length, waist up & close up of my face. Probably the hardest things to look at Ive done in ages. BUT what a truthful wake up call!!! They are my reminder of where Im never heading again the rose tinted glasses I wore are off!
You can do this We all can - Ive decided I have to believe in me before I can except anyone else too! Im on week 16 lost 69lb (or nearly an Irish Setter lol) Now everyone is saying how great I look that is motivation on its own

Come on we can do this!!!

Annie xxx

Well done Annie, what a fantastic loss so far, you are doing brilliantly! I'm looking forward to losing an Irish setter too. :)

I haven't been brave enough to do pics yet, but I know what you mean about steering wheels and seat belts. Starting to be scared to accept lifts from others because of that is terrible, need to add that one to my list!

Thanks for the support, hopefully, between us we'll get there! :)

Hiya, I know what you mean about powerful, I've just cooked roast dinner and it was a good feeling resisting the roasties, but very hard! I ended up with one leftover, and despite holding it for a minute, resisted putting it in my mouth and put it into the bin instead!

I keep telling myself it's far too early to consider cheating, I'm not even 2 stone down yet! Just got to keep plodding on!
Mind you, the bad weather yesterday, combined with some free time in town meant the shops were quiet and I dared to try on some walking boots. The family are kitted out now. We'll start with maybe a mile or 2 and hopefully build up from there. Anything is better that nothing!

I don't know how you do it, I'm so glad my hubby is doing this with me, I don't think I would have the strength to do it with food around me. Well done you!!!:D
