All the best - you can do it! I was a stone heavier than that when I started out, and I've waved goodbye to over 6.5 stone so far. Keep coming on here for support and ideas, and you'll be fine. xx

How's it going?

i know how you are feeling i started out at 24stone a few yrs ago -- at moment im 19.5 stone - - i have to lose 8 stone to be at ideal weight-- im giving myself 1 year to do it ;);)

we can do it together and support one another in our aim to lose the weight

Good luck hun! I have 15st to lose...we will get there!!

How's everyone getting on? xx

Thats the first hurdle to get under 200 lbs.... once I get there ill redo signature to get me to 145lbs

Wow well done :)

Weighed in 30/12/2012 - 264.5 lbs
Total loss 31.5 lbs now
Aiming at 4lbs for month of January = 1lb a week
If I lose more all good..
Gonna aim for 4 per month = 48 for 2013
Thatll fet me to 216.5lbs this time next year
Im 40 in 4yrs so thats my long term goal 145lbs

How have you lost this if you don't mind me asking. I'm serious about wanting to lose a large amount. Currently 21st and struggling which eating plan to follow. Im not looking for any quick fixes and want a life whilst doing this any suggestions?

Hiya! I've lost 7.5 stone now, and it's been mostly through calorie counting. I do also take Orlistat on prescription, which may or may not help a little - the jury seems to be out on its actual effectiveness other than as a tablet form of will power, lol. You're right not to be looking for a quick fix - the slower it comes off the more likely it is to stay off. I don't think you can go wrong with calorie counting, it's what all weight loss boils down to in the end, after all. :)

All the best. xx

Thanks very much and well done on your loss. How long did it take you. Will try counting cals. Was thinking 1500 a day and exercising. Might try alli alongside its difficult to get orlistat on prescription around here. My gp unfortunately doesn't believe in it x x

Thanks! I've been at it for 17 months so far - hoping to lose 10 stone in total, for which I was allowing two years. I started on 1800 calories, zero exercise. If you Google a site called Fat2Fit Radio and enter all your personal details it will tell you how many calories you should eat for different activity levels. As a 5'8" sedentary woman of 50 with a couple of stone left to lose, it's telling me to eat 1723 a day. :)

Taking Alli won't hurt (except your purse, lol) - I would try your GP on the Orlistat front if your BMI is over 30 though; tell him/her it's a lot cheaper than a gastric band! ;) xx

You can lose weight without orlistat. I tried the half strength version alli and it did nothing for me. I then found out because of my health issues I couldn't take it anyway. I have lost 8 stone since the end of feb 2012. It is coming off more slowly now and I still have 3 stone to go. But do not think you can not lose weight without it you can :) I think for some it boosts their weight loss but do not be to disheartened your GP said no.

Oh my word that is amazing well done. Have you followed a plan? I have tried orlistat in the past and it was good but when I got the nasty side effects rather than changing.my diet as your supposed to I stopped taking it. Which is quite typical of myself. Usually at the first hurdle or slip up I give up. I'm determined this time now. It's the only part of my life I'm nor satisified with x x

Thanks for that. I just wrote out a lengthy reply then I think my phone lost it. Bloody thing. That is an amazing loss well done. Have you followed a plan or done it yourself x x

Oh absolutely, of course you can lose weight without it, you've done brilliantly Marie. I can't hand on heart say whether it's made any difference to my losses at all, but my theory was that, in my case, it couldn't hurt. It was the nurse practitioner at my doctor's who suggested them to me. A lot of people just find that it helps to keep them on track because of those oft-mentioned side effects you can get if you stray off-plan! :0 xx

Oh no I was not suggesting they were not worth taking, it was more a case of reassuring someone else they can do it without. I am sure if I was allowed to take it, I definatly would as anything that can boost weight loss is a good thing. My anti cancer drugs interfer with all sorts and the doctor was not happy for me to take it while on them.

Hi all,
Was really pleased to find this room. I also have 9 stone to lose (exactly!)
I wonder if it is possible in a year or if that is a little optimistic?
Good luck all x
