8st to lose and still be overweight

Hi people, I have the same story, i'm sure as many of you,I was the one my mum used to say at the dinner table, Give it to Matt he'll finish it for you.:( And i did......... My mum was always a big lady only 5ft 1 and 15 to 18st until that massive heart attack did for her, she was 56 :sigh: I used to spend hours on the phone to mum chatting diets and results, then obviously that stopped, and I found myself piling on the pounds i'm 54 this year and morbidly obese. I have been to the local GP only for him to possibly say the rudest thing anyone has ever said to me regarding my weight.
i asked him it there was anything he could help with for my weight he just looked me up and down and said " you could try eating less, look at the state of you" I said I don't feel that i'm eating the wrong stuff he just reitterated "look at yourself, you obviously are" I almost cried there and then! instead i went off angry and confused.
I have now decided to help myself, as all the tax I'm paying to people like him, isn't going to get me any!
I was looking through my local paper and found a guy's story in it who had lost some amazing amount of weight something like 12st or if not more, and I thought well if he can do it, then so can i!
I have joined a SW group and so far i'm doing better than i could have wished for, but i have to lose well over 100lbs and i have scratched the surface quite well so far but help and support are paramount, I have really enjoyed reading what you guy's are doing and have already done Well done;)
According to my BMi i have to lose over half my weight to be within the normal range I supose thats why my knees hurt and my back aches  but I have never been so positive as i am now SW has been great for me so far, I love the cooking and the eating and especially the results, I know it's going to slow right down and maybe even stop but I must keep going.

Hi Matt

Just wanted to say good luck and I know you can do it.

There's great support on this site and every time I'm feeling down or to give up I read others stories and it really makes me feel good to know I'm not the only one going through this struggle.

What's really helped me is joining one of the monthly weight lost challenges, it helps keep you on track. So when one starts for march you should join. Maybe even start a feb one now.

Take care

hi matt
hello welcome to the forum when i read your page just now it brought tears to my eyes as i have been there to still am but least im now doing something about it
good luck on your journey

xx

Hello Matt lovely to 'meet' you! :)

Welcome aboard! Now you have decided to join us in here, it shows you mean business..so you are half way there already..just a mountain of willlpower and determination and you are firmly on the orad to success :)

I want to wish you luck and repeat what the others have said, you will receive lots of support on this forum I wouldn't have lost the weight I have, if it wasn't for the friends I have made on here. I joined in 2009, gave up after a week..then rejoined in 2011..and have never looked back. we all need 'like-minded' people who truly understand how we feel and how difficult this weight loss malarkey can actually be!

Personally I have been dieting since I was in my early 20's and have now just turned 50! (ahem!)..so plenty of years of yo yo ing, losing a stone or so, then piling it all back on..etc etc. I know its an old saying, but truly if I can do it..anybody can! I decided for health issues, that enough is enough..and as my diary says.."Its GOT to go!"

Please keep posting during good days and not so good days..we all understand! I will pop in often to see how you are getting on, good luck and always remember..Onward and downward!!!!! ;)

If you ever need a chat offline..please feel free to PM me anytime. I am not a professional, just someone who can relate to everything you and plenty of others say!

Sorry to hear you have an unsympathetic doctor..now plan ahead to 'show' him..the new you!!!!

Take care :)

Hi Matt,

I read your post and totally related! How horrible that you were spoken to like that :( I was worried about putting my weight on here, and seeing that I had over half my body weight to lose... But We're all in this together! We are here... That's the first hurdle over with!

Good luck with your journey & hopefully we can all help each other along the way :) X

It looks like we have a similar task ahead of us, thanks for your kind thoughts, and good luck to youself, I'm sure we will keep each other going ;)

matt thats true we will give each other support all way through

Hi Matt and welcome,
Sounds like your doctor is a horrible person. I started with more to lose than you do and my doctor never spoke to me that way, how horrible. I have lots of medical issues which add to me making it harder to lose weight but I try not to lose focus and keep it up. I have lost over 100lbs now and even when I think of the 30lbs I have left I worry. But I know it can be done and instead of worrying about the big picture I find breaking it into chunks helped loads. Whether it was a stone bracket change or a significant change in BMI whatever works for each person. So I am sure you can do it, you sound motivated enough and ignore that ignorant doctor people like him wont help and that's what doctors are there for advice/support not beating you down, sorry you have to deal with that. I take for granted how wonderful my doctors, specialists and cancer nurse are. So when I read what other people experience I feel so bad, but then again I totally lack support from my family I guess its different for each person. So well done you for starting which is a scary journey and not letting negative attitudes from others discourage you!

nasty horrible doctor. can you not see someone else next time? i would. i wouldnt want to breathe in the same air as him, who does he think he is?! having someone speak to you like that doesnt help at all does it. i had a similar thing happen to me when i met a surgeon at hospital who decided to speak to me like dirt. i complained about him and never saw that particular chap again and good job too! i know they have a certainly responsibility to ensure we all look after ourselves but honestly, someone doing that often makes us turn to the biscuit tin, not make us feel, oh yes he is so right, i must do what he says, just the exact opposite :)

good luck with your weightloss. you will get there. your doctor should learn more patience (patients) get it?! hehe

Thanks Harriet I'm better than him in a lot of ways and I'll certainly never choose to see him ever again, I'll do it I know I will, and with the help of you lot how can I not :D

good on you the caretaker you will have the last laugh when you walk in with new you good on you no wonder people hate going to see there drs

4lbs off this week, that's 22lbs so far, I'm so impressed with SW and the group I go to, I have been keeping my EE journey 100% so far and it seems to be working. :)

well done caretaker you are doing great xxxx

Just wanted to drop by and say well done so far and keep it up!

Sorry to hear about your experience at the GP, but you can definitely do it! I've gone from 18.9 to 14.13 since November and have felt benefits every step of the way! It really is brilliant. When clothes begin to fit better and you go down a trouser size every effort is worth it. I've had a lot of help using My Fitness Pal as tracking my food works for me. Good job on joining Slimming World!

Well done yourself RainbowRose, what an astonishing achievement.

I'd like to second what Fitlose has said RR, mind you Fitlose youv'e done not so shabby yourself :) Well done 52lbs is fantastic ;)

Hi Matt

Another new person here, think your posts are brilliant - so positive (despite that idiot doctor!) - so keep up the good work :)
