A lot MORE than just a lot to lose :(

I'm starting Cambridge Diet on 1st jan to shift these lbs in 2014! Oh and I have a lot of lbs to shift, close to 200 lbs to lose. What a mountain I have to climb! At the moment I can't seem to even begin to have belief I can climb this huge mountain! Or that there is life for me at the other side. At the moment I'm stuck at the bottom of this grey windy rainy mountain and every time I try to climb it I some how lose my footing and slip down to the bottom. I can't even see the sun at the top no more through the clouds just awful rain that I feel I'll never get past! So I put on a safety belt this time (very sensible when climbing these steep mountains) and contacted a CDC! I have a few motivations to help me. One I'm getting married and two I want children after my wedding. So the reason I've rambled on about mountains and stuff is that the amount I have to lose is over whelming me. Has anyone else had a lot to lose and managed to do it? Please anyone comment with some advice, any advice, support, kind words, anything just anything. I need all the help I can get... I'm here for the long haul! Xxx

Hey honey - I have 156lb to lose! Or I did - now I have 112lb to lose! Am doing Exante - very similar to Cambridge, just available on net with no counsellor. I started CDC and had a lovely lady supporting me, but then my life went pear shaped, I had to move and there was no counsellor in my area!
One of the things the lovely lady counsellor did for me was to lend me a 'pound of fat' model for a week, to remind me of what I was actually losing - maybe you could google?
But what I really wanted to say was - stop looking at that mountain, just look at where you are putting your feet! As long as you do right by yourself every day, you will be perilously near the top and getting altitude sickness this time next year!

Wow you are doing amazing! How long have you been on extante? That's really helpful, I'm
Gonna watch where I put my feet so I don't fall again! Have you seen a difference in your fitness and confidence? Xxx

I started Exante in late August, was a bit on and off with it for about six weeks, and went from 18st4 ish to 16.10ish, then I had a massive hiatus for ages and put 2lb back on, like a muppet. I started again five weeks ago today at 16.12 and lost 9lb, 2lb, 4lb, 3lb,5lb and am now at 15.2. I haven't cheated this time, nor do I intend to!
Have noticed a massive difference in health and happiness. My crunch moment came quite a while ago now, when I realised I couldn't climb on a table. I'm a very short teacher, so I do this a lot (displays etc), and it was the first time I had really NOTICED that I couldn't do something because I was heavy. I started a new job in September which involves a lot of running around and switching locations, and when I started, I couldn't wait to sit down when I could, and I scheduled a good 5-10 minutes to get across campus with heavy stuff. I've noticed recently that it only actually takes about two minutes, and I get grumpy when I'm forced to be stationary for too long!
THings I do that help are:
1. Jump on the scale about three times a day - now a lot of people don't recommend this, and I'm not going to either, but I reckon it's important to have a strategy. Weight can fluctuate an amazing amount for all sorts of reasons, some you can help, and others not so much. I know that I can easily go up 5lbs in a day, and up to 8lbs for 3 or 4 days around totm - because I've watched it happen, and watching it helps me, I think it helps my brain rationalise it! Whatever you do, be a regular weigher - whether that's three time a day, once a week, or once a month - and be prepared for the fact that it won't always be steady!
2. I read somewhere that weight loss is like a horse and cart situation. Sort the horse (your mind) out, and it can trek the cart anywhere. The cart can't move on its own.
3. Listen to how you speak to yourself, and think about whether you would talk to anyone else like that, or what you would think/say to someone who spoke to you like that. If you are someone who attacks yourself a lot, you might find it helps?
4. The biggest thing. I read somewhere on a forum that a dieter was taking it 'one hour at a time', and I keep that firmly in mind. Sometimes it's too hard to take it a month, week or even day at a time. But if you take every hour at a time, the days look after themselves!
You will be ok lovely, and you've come to the right place - people here are lovely, and always on your side!

oooh - also, what has really helped this time is small goals!
I only started doing this when after my first weigh in, I was 2lbs off being in the fifteens....the goal became, if I can just do that next week, happy days! Then it was - if I can just not crack over works do's... If I can just not crack over xmas...now it's if I can just get into the 14's by the end of next week...after that it will be , if I can just get to 14.10lb, I will no longer be morbidly obese, just your common or garden obese then, if I can just get my %lost to 25% - all really small potatoes (or milkshakes), but then you get to feel good along the wiegh, instead of waiting for a magical moment so far in the future that it doesn't look real!

Hi Poppy! Just wanted to wish you all the very best - this is a great part of the forum, very supportive. I started out with ten stone to lose, and coming on here regularly has helped me enormously. :) xx

I dunno how to add your other post in but wow thank you for taking the time to reply and really help me. All your advice is wonderful, love the horse and cart saying... It's so true! I'm 27 I CAN do this. Little steps at a time like you said, short goals. I'm to scared to even get on the scales but I might give it a go tomorrow so I know how much I've put on and where I'm heading. wonderful advise so pleased thank you xxx

Thank you! Oh I've been at it for a couple of years, lol. Calorie counting for me - I could never contemplate a VLCD, I love my grub too much and wanted to address the way I eat rather than cut it out altogether, lol. But we all find the way that's best for us! :) xx

Hi poppy, I lost over 140 lbs. I remember feeling like I would never do it so I only ever thought about losing weight in groups of 3 stone.
The weight may have gone now but the battle with food is still there. It's an effort everyday.
Gotta correct the damages from Christmas to keep in control of it all.
Any help or advice I can give feel free to contact me.

Started today, finding it hard but trying to keep focused xx

drink if you're hungry- take up something to keep your hands busy, and every time you see something that makes you think 'I could just eat some of that', try using the phrase 'I could just not'! Don't let it be a big thing.
This first week is the hardest, and it is hard, so treat yourself nicely and be proud of yourself. You will be great!

Acheron I'm loving your support! From about 4pm till about 7pm I found it really hard today. Tea time! I had a shower really early tonight and watched my husband to be eat crackers and cheese in front of me along with short bread biscuits and then 30mins later he had a bowel of cereal. It was hard and all I wanted to do was 'start tomorrow' but eating is not going to help me, no good will come of cheating on this diet. So I've plodded on and altho it's still hard and the night ain't over I still feeling proud. Xxx

Well done! It will get easier hon, honest! The hunger will power down in a few days, then you just have to deal with any emotional stuff you might have around food, which is harder, but by then you'll have a feeling of success to hold on to!

hi poppy
