More than 10 stone to lose.... 5 stone and counting

Basically below is a copy of what I posted in the introductions section, although that's not really the place to record my journey..... I think this is the best place as I do have a lot to lose. So hi everyone and thanks for all the advice and encouraging stories I've read so far....

Just joined the site today as a way to record my weight loss journey and also see what others have done and achieved as advice and motivation.

This time last week I weighed 27st4 with a bmi of 51. Last Thursday I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea with a AHI of 104. The thought of sleeping attached to a machine for the rest of my life, the fact the treatment should make me feel a lot more energetic and the fact my son has just turned 2 and will be wanting me to play football etc with him very soon mean there has been no better time in my life to lose the weight I have been overweight since I was about 10, now at 33 I am bigger than ever.

Im not sure exactly how much weight I want to lose, I'm 6ft1 and fairly broad so my initial target is to lose 10 stone. Looking at the charts this would still leave me classed as obese so from there I will probably want to lose some more but for now 17st4 is my target.

So a week on from my diagnosis, I have been eating only healthy foods since then, snacking on fruit and drinking water and cranberry juice and am down to 26st3 already. 15 pounds in a week. I know I'm not going to lose that amount every week but it's a good start from a motivation point of view.

As as I'm not really following a particular diet plan but still losing weight I'm not sure what to do? Just continue as I am until the weight loss slows or stops? Or try and get onto one of the recognised plans?

anyway, if you've read this far without falling asleep, hi, looks like a great site and hopefully I'll have a success story to share at some point

Hi Ben :)

Just wanted to say welcome to the site - there's a massive amount of information here about the various ways people are losing weight, whether it's counting calories, plans like WW or SW or the meal replacement regiemes.

I have found the place incredibly useful and I ust wanted to say keep on coming back here. I haven't seen an ounce of judgement, just lots and lots of support and help.

Thanks for the welcome

my first tactic is for every 2kg I lose to fill up an old 2litre bottle with water and keep it in the corner of the room as a representation of the weight I've lost. Although I've lost a stone I don't feel or look any slimmer but the three two litre bottles are pretty heavy and I would hate to think I had to cart them around with me everywhere I went, in fact I'm not far away from having four bottles of water there now :)

im in just gonna continue with the healthy eating, normal portion sizes for now, start exercising, and when I feel my weight loss has slowed down or stopped then think about one of the diet plans then. At the moment I feel my time would be better spent exercising etc, although I admit I am deffinagely no expert

Best of luck Ben ..I'm sure that you'll do it., just think positive,

I have just started a 50lb summer challenge thread..

it's just a great way to get support and challenge yourself with your losses.

Hi.

Continue as you are. Be sensible and add exercise when you're ready.

You'll be off that sleeping machine in no time.

I too had sleep apnoea Ben.. And in December they took the machine back as I no longer needed it... It was one of the best feelings ever.. I'm sure you can do this x

Friday is weigh in day, another 2lbs so 4lbs total for the week.

Not too bad considering I went out for a meal one night and had half a bottle of jack Daniels another night.

Wouldnt mind another 16lb loss week tho lol

also I've been out of work for the first two weeks of my weight loss so have lost that weight basically sat on the sofa. Start my new job Monday meaning I'm gonna be on my feet 8 hours a day which should help things out nicely
