    A cry for help

I don't know what help I need I just know that I need something.

I am around 25stone now, I suffer from severe depression and anxiety, I am in constant pain in my joints and back, breathing is difficult and basically life is an unpleasant experience for me at the moment.

I know I have to lose weight, I can confidently say that I have attempted 90% of all diets under the sun but maintaining them is my problem. I couldn't say exactly why, I struggle with most plans because I have some food phobias, (vegetables and soups come near me and I am sick) I comfort eat and with my depression it means I comfort eat ALOT! In all honesty I am lazy although now its more to do with pain then actually not wanting to do stuff.

I guess I just need some support and some guidance, after trying so many diets I have no idea which one is best for me anymore.

Hi hon, and welcome. This is the right place for support - this part of the forum is great for that. It's difficult to advise what plan would be best for you, as everyone is very individual in their eating habits and what suits them. From what you say about veg, it may be that you wouldn't be ideally suited to Slimming World, even though I know there are ways of hiding veg in sauces etc. Personally, I'm a calorie counter, as it's very flexible - have you done that in the past?

The first thing I did, when I finally decided enough was enough at age 49 and weighing 21.5 stone, was to go to my GP and ask for Orlistat. I'd previously been recommended it by one of the practice nurses, and found it to be a useful aid to keeping me focused on what I was eating. It's not a miracle drug, but it can definitely help. Your GP may also be able to help you in other ways, such as therapy of some kind, nutritional guidance etc. And I think they can actually prescribe an initial membership at somewhere like Weight Watchers.

What I'd say has been most helpful for me is, firstly, planning and recording everything I'm going to eat every day on My Fitness Pal, even if I eat "naughty" stuff, and secondly, coming on here a lot. Reading about other people's successes and, sometimes more importantly, struggles, is an enormous help, and I'm not sure I would have come this far without it.

    All the very best. xx

Hi Nikki, I've been suffering with a lot of pain for quite a few years now mainly due to being spinabifida and age related which doesn't make it any easier to deal with. I have also suffered from depression for most of my life and it took me until I was in my fifties before I could find out how to manage it.. and the fact is it can be done!
Personally, I would say that the best thing for you to do is work on controlling your depressive moods. I find that I have to be very careful not to watch weepy movies or look at a lot of nostalgic photos and the like as it will soon send me down the steep slippery path. There may be other things that can trigger off your moods but until you get those under control it will always cause you to continue to comfort eat.
I see by your history on here that you have been posting for quite some time so how about trying this new tactic? May well help you to be able to lose that weight I the end.. surely it would be well worth the effort?
Take care and all the very best wishes to you..

Just wanted to say hi, as I'm another ME sufferer. It's amazing how many I've met on here - there must be a connection between ME and weight loss, lol. xx

Ooh no, juicing isn't for me either, lol. My husband makes the most revolting looking juices out stuff I'd only feed to my guinea pigs! Calorie counting all the way for me. How long have you had ME? I was diagnosed 25 years ago, so it's just a part of who I am now. xx

Oh I know what it's like in those early days, hon. Now it's just so much a part of who I am that I'm used to living my life around the constraints it imposes, but it does take some getting used to, especially if you were active before. All the best. xx
