Drag0nfly's journey

Hi everyone,

I joined Slimming World just over a month ago. It's being going well so far but I'm beginning to feel like I could use some moral support. I've been getting tips etc from another forum but most of the ladies on there only have a stone or two to lose so I feel a bit like a fish out of water. Also, people know me on there and I'd rather remain anonymous when I'm talking about my weight. I've always been ashamed of it.

I've been overweight all my life. I've managed to lose weight in the past, usually by pretty much starving myself, but of course it's never stayed off. I felt like I was beginning to see health problems creeping up on me so I finally bit the bullet last month and joined Slimming World online. This was a massive step for me, I've never had the courage before. Still don't have the courage to join a group but at least I've made a start.

I was 22st 1lb when I joined on 28th July. I'm down to 20st 3lbs now, which obviously I'm over the moon about, but I can see the loss slowing down now and the initial buzz is wearing off. I don't want this to fall by the wayside so this afternoon I'm going to read all your stories, hopefully they'll reassure me that I'm on the right track.

I'm so glad I found this forum, I feel less alone now.

Hi Dragonfly.. Well done on that loss so far.. that's a big achievement!
You will find lots of support on here as it's a friendly forum and there are plenty of people on the SW diet too. Don't give up now after all the hard work so far just think of how great you'll feel when you reach your goal and can fit into all those lovely clothes that I'm sure you have dreamed about..
All the very best to you! :)

Onwards and Downwards! :girlpower:

Almost 2 stone! Wow! You are definitely doing amazingly. Don't let yourself get disheartened hun - any loss is better than a gain :) Welcome! :)

Thanks for your kind words ladies. I don't know why I'm feeling a bit down about it all at the moment, I should be on cloud nine. If someone had said to me a month ago that I'd have lost almost 2 stone I wouldn't have believed it. But here I am feeling a bit sorry for myself because it's not dropping off the rate it was for the first fortnight. I need to get a grip. I'm not an idiot, I knew it wouldn't keep going at that rate. I think I'm just scared it will stop altogether. I lost 11lb in the first week, then 7lb, then 5lb, then 3lb. So in my mind, it's going to stop altogether in the next week or two. Then what will I do?

I'm hoping that putting my thoughts down in writing on here will make me realise how ridiculous I'm being.

Positives so far:
No chocolate for over a month and not missing it in the slightest.
Big decrease in alcohol consumption and not missing that either.
Sleeping better...knees not hurting anymore.
Can fit in several pairs of jeans that have been stashed in the loft for ages.

Continuing at that rate would play havock with your skins elasticity too and leave you with issues for saggy skin around your tummy :) The start of all diets are always huge losses because of the water weight that is lost too - and the HUGE change in eating patterns/food.

Don't worry about it stopping at all, as long as you are eating less and moving more and not going over what your maintenence calories would be - you will always loose weight :)

You're doing fab :) I get frustrated too when it slows down after the first few weeks but I have found writing it all down and coming on here has been great motivation. :)

Welcome Dragonfly,

i know now what you mean about other thread with people losing only a stone or too. I don't want to belittle their problems, but I think it is a different thing altogether to be losing weight when you're only borderline overweight, compared to our longer journeys.

ID love to hear about your progress. Big well done on getting as far as you have done. I can understand what a big step it is to face your problem and join SW. I'm almost two weeks in to my diet, which started with having to buy some scales and face up to exactly how much I weigh these days. I've started on the slim fast diet to get myself into better portion sizes.

YAY to us for starting though, and we can stick together till the end!! (Ups and downs included) xxxxxx

Thanks for the reassurances everyone, I definitely feel a bit better about things this evening.

I read through a few of the other threads earlier, including yours Bigbear, it's so good to hear about people on a similar journey. I'll read some more tomorrow if I get chance.

Going to have a glass of wine or two this evening, I've hardly had any syns this week so plenty of wriggle room for that.

Welcome and good luck, hon. I was not far off your starting weight when I joined here, and I've found it to be such a huge help along the way. :) xx

Slightly awkward moment earlier. My sister rang to invite me for a family tea later on today, for which she's cooking pie/creamy mash/veg. Gulp. Don't even want to think about how many syns that would be. I had to ask her if she'd be offended if I brought my own food. Bless her, she said she has a piri piri chicken breast that needs using up so she's going to cook that for me and I can just have the veg with it. It does make things awkward sometimes, when you have to keep reminding people that you can't just eat any old thing. My mother's a nightmare, she just chooses to ignore it and continues to try to ply me with cakes etc. I daren't tell her that I've lost 26lbs, she'll go into overdrive. Either that or she'll start commenting on how it'll make me ill.

Anyway, it's weigh in day tomorrow. Feeling the usual mixture of dread and anticipation already.

I hate being different, or even talking to family/friends About my weight or diet so big well done to you for asking for something different, that way you can see your sister and still keep within diet. 26 lbs is such a great achievement, well done you x

How lovely of your sister, it is definitely hard around family when dieting. My nanna is a feeder and offers cakes, crisps, chocolate every second of the day. Sometimes I think she's just testing me though lol. Hope you have a lovely evening, enjoy your piri piri chicken :)

Had lovely meal with the family at my sisters. My mother was as predictable as ever though...

Mum: Why are you not having pie?
Me: Because I'm doing Slimming World
Mum: *pulls face*
(A few mins later)
Mum: Are you having a cake?
Me: No, thanks.
Mum: Why?
Me: Because it would be a bit pointless to turn down pie then eat cake wouldn't it?
Mum: Well do you want to take one home for later then?

????????????????????????????????????????

Big well done up you got getting through that!

My parents are the same, well for me it's particularly my dad - always trying to give me cakes, chocolate, puddings, cream etc. but then Other times he'll tell me how I should go on a diet???!? Families eh?!

hopefully they'll get used to it if you keep on letting them know what you can and can't have.

Weigh in day

-5lbs for me this week, which means I've got my 2 stone award and my club 10.

:bliss:

Thanks again for all your messages of support x
