My Journey to a Healthier Me

Hi!

My name is Sonja and I will be 31 in 2 months. I am overweight and have been diagnosed with PCOS. My husband and I have been trying for a baby for over 8 years now, but so far unsuccessful, not least because of my weight.

When I was a teenager I was anorexic and had to be hospitalised, because I was underweight. I was forced to eat to gain weight and that's where the problems started. After I was discharged my ED changed and I became a binge eater gaining about 30 KG or 66 lbs in about 4 months. I just couldn't stop eating...years later I am here still not able to properly control my binge eating, weighing 113.7 KG or 250 lbs.

I need to change and this feels like the right time. On 31/12/2014 my husband and I started on Diet Chef. We deliberately didn't want to start on 01/01/2015, as we didn't want it to be one of those new year's resolutions. I am not even a week in and lost 4 KG or 8.8 lbs. The food is nice and doesn't really feel like a diet.

I chose Diet Chef, because it gives me some structure and hopefully helps me to learn to eat regular and normal portion sizes. I am positive so far and decided to commit to writing a diary here.

Maybe I can get some support along the way, as I am sure there will be times when I really struggle.

So...another day. Really enjoyed yesterdays food. I've had cocoa nib porridge for breakfast, pea and ham soup for lunch and minced beef hotpot for dinner with a cucumber salad. As a snack I've had sour cream and chive pretzels and a mandarin.

Today's breakfast is chocolate granola and a little bit of Greek yoghurt. Looking forward to it, but not hungry yet.

Had my chocolate granola this morning and it was lovely. For lunch I had a Lemon and Herb Bulgur Wheat and Couscous Pot, that was really nice too.
Getting a bit peckish now and just had a mini bag of Haribo Starmix.

Nee to keep myself occupied and try not to think about food. Normally we've got some fruit in the office, but today all the stuff that's nice is already gone. Well, I guess I will survive until dinner.

I think I will be going for the Tuna Rigatoni tonight and have a salad with it.

Can't wait for 5:30 when I can drive home...

Start of week 2 and 4 KG down. Can't complain :) I am just on my lunch break having a sweet potato and coconut soup and 2 mini Pitta breads. Yummy :) This soup was one I was both intrigued and nervous about, but there's wasn't any reason to be nervous, as it is really lovely. Spicy, sweet, tangy...juts delicious :)

Today is going way better than yesterday, but I guess we all have days were it's harder to stick to our diets.

Congratz for your success. Are you also going to gym ?

At the moment I am not going to the gym, can't really afford it and due to my job (I work in Sales, a lot of early starts and getting home late) don't have a lot of time. I am looking to start the 'Couch to 5K' running program as soon as my knees will play along though. At the moment my weight is just too much and my knees swell and are really painful if I try running.

Oh yes, hon, please do look after your knees! I'm fanatical about telling people that, lol, having destroyed both mine - not by running, just by being morbidly obese. So please do be careful! Good luck. :) xx

Thank you! I will. I might look into swimming. I used to love swimming and although I would be ashamed getting seen in a bathing suit I shouldn't really care what other people think, as I am doing this for me. If they don't like it they can look away...

Yes, swimming would be a good idea! I'm currently recuperating from my first knee replacement, and it's not fun, lol. :) xx

i agree i just need to tell myself this to x x x

Haven't updated my diary over the weekend. It's still going good. Normally weekends were the times when I struggled the most with dieting, but this time, it doesn't make any difference. I am hardly ever hungry between meals, I enjoy what I am eating and I am still losing weight. I know I won't be able to repeat my loss from last week any time soon, just because the first week is always a bit more, but as long as I am losing it's fine.

Yesterday for Dinner I've had beef in ale...That was soooo yummy. I've boiled one potato to go with it. That's definitely my new favourite :)

This morning I will have porridge with fruit (which fruit, I haven't decided yet) and for lunch a tomato and herb couscous pot.

Onwards and downwards...I am still motivated and very positive :)

hi mrs s
you sound so positive ands its great to read cause it rubs off on us good look on your journey you have done amazing x x

Thank you chezz! Honestly, I've tried sooooo many diets before and didn't menage to stick to anything for longer than a couple of weeks at the most, but it was always difficult from the start.

With diet chef that just totally different. I don't feel like I am dieting and I don't feel like I miss out on anything. Although I know it's a long way to go, I just feel I can do it this time...finally :)

ohh mrs s i am so chuffed for you and i am so pleased that you are enjoying it as well thats a big bonus and thankyou for your honesty x x x x x

Hiya Sonja

All sounds like it's going well - Diet Chef sounds like it is suiting you to a tee :)

Are the meals big servings or portion controlled, if you see what I mean? And do you like them all so far?

Hi Susie :)

So far I do like the meals. Of course there are a few I don' like, but for my next I order I know my preferences. They have so much variety that it doesn't really matter that I don't like all of the meals. They are portion controlled and the first few days I found it hard, but now I don't think I could eat a lot more than I am getting. I hope I can keep losing weight with Diet Chef.

This week I have lost 2 lbs. Not as much as last week, but still a loss, so won't complain :)
