Help & Buddies needed

Hi, I'm new to here and need to lose weight so I'm hoping this might help me. I have always been overweight, lost weight then regained it many times. I'm getting married at the beginning of June and the thought of dress hunting is daunting. I weighed myself last Monday and have been following the slimming world plan but trying to keep the carbs low and my weigh in today has shown a 7lb loss. I'm hoping I can lose 4 stone by June but somewhere in between I have to find a dress. I am going to leave it as late as possible and in the meantime find someone who can alter it at short notice. I have a lot of weight to lose as I'm over 23 stone. I need to do some exercise but at the minute I struggle to walk or stand up for a reasonable length of time. I'm thinking of getting a DVD that I can do at home so if anyone can recommend a good starter one I would be grateful. I do have the 30 day shred but I think it's beyond me for now, maybe for later.

Thanks for reading.

Hello,

Congratulations on the looming wedding! :D 4 stone by June should be achievable with a bit of hard work.
Have you tried swimming? Fantastic, low-intensity exercise that burns a lot of calories. I couldn't bear anything gym-related so I don't have any DVD recommendations but I am a complete swimming convert, ha.

Swimming and walking is great for people like us :) It's low intensity and swimming especially supports the joints.

Well done on taking your first step and congratulations on your wedding coming up :) Well done on your loss so far too! Here's to many more!

Hi & congratulations on the wedding. Plenty of time to lose some weight so you can feel fab in a gorgeous dress on your special day.

I started at a similar size and would recommend Leslie Sansone walking DVDs to start. Free ones on Youtube. They start nice and easy at a mile and you can slowly build up. I love swimming but not brave enough to go when I was bigger & now I worry about my saggy bits :8855:

Oh, bugger saggy bits :p. I go during the length-swimming times each day, and I'm usually one of the smallest people there (currently a similar size to you, 14st 8, but my official WI isn't until the weekend)! Once you get past the nerves of the first few times, it's fine, and most of your body is submerged in the water anyway so nobody is looking.

Just seen that you've lost over 9st, wow! Well done, that is amazing x

Congratulations on the wedding news. I got engaged New Years Day so haven't even started wedding planning yet! 4 stones should be doable by June. I haven't tried any exercise yet, minus running around after my kids, but I will start one day. I might even take SJB's advise and do the walking ones. We'll talk this weight loss together and be two beautiful brides at our weddings :)

I like swimming but the thought of a swim suit fills me with dread:eek: maybe when I lose a bit and gain a bit of confidence. Wouldn't mind it if I could hire the entire pool for myself:D

Yep the dreaded swim suit  it's up at the top with the dreaded wedding dress:(

I will check out that walking DVD but in the meantime my OH came home with Davina's 7 minute fit DVD last night so will give this a try later:D

Thank you and congratulations too:) I've lost weight before but tend to give up too easily but I'm hopeful that if I combine it with exercise I will lose more and hopefully stick to it. I obviously want to lose miracle amounts before the wedding but I also know this is a long term thing. Beautiful brides! Yep we will work to that:D

I'm the same JAS. I'm coming up to the point I give up soon, which is normally 1-2 month mark. Hopefully together we can motivate each other through it. I don't think its a miracle amount due to your size, now if you were 15st trying to get to 11 then maybe, but we're both big girls so the weight should come off easy. I've managed over a stone in a month with only a tiny bit of exercise. Going to hopefully start some today.

Nobody looks at you in the pool though, really. If a traditional swimsuit doesn't sound enticing, how about a swim dress? Simply Be have a lot of nice ones:

Welcome! I always recommend seated exercise videos to people who struggle with working out. YouTube has a lot of free ones. It's what I used when I was just starting out, and now I walk 5 miles almost every day and lift weights, do yoga and pilates... all sorts of things.

Good luck with your weight loss, and congrats on the wedding! :)
