Letzes' Diary

Hello all! So, I've finally decide to start my "diary". I am not sure if I'm going to post what I eat everyday because it'd be pretty repetitive, but I intend to do that every once and about and I welcome suggestions for improvements! Perhaps I can also share some of the recipes that I've been finding during my weight loss journey. I started changing my habits back in September 2014 and since then I lost quite a few kilos (yes, I am not from UK and I use metrics), as you can see in my profile. At this time, I moved from my home country with my glucose level above 300. I am all about the "love your body" philosophy, but at that point, I was not just fat, I was with an (severe) uncontrolled type 2 Diabetes. So, I don't mind if I am chubby, in fact, my goal is quite reasonable, but I want to be healthy.

I'm starting this diary because sometimes I want to talk / moan about dieting and exercises, but I know people are not really interested in hearing about that, but here we are all on the same boat! By now, I am tracking what I eat through Cron-o-meter (I don't like FitnessPal). I'm not really counting calories while eating, but I started to do that mainly to keep track of my daily ingestion of nutrients and vitamins.

I don't follow a plan, but I do like the idea of SW and I think my eating habits are more and less like that. I tried WW before, but the measuring thing drove me crazy and I don't see the point of taking care of my body if my mind is freaking out. Even if I try to control that, sometimes I can't avoid fear and self-blame :/. This is the hardest part for me, I would like not to think too much about dieting and what I am going to eat later (or that I have to go to the gym) because it affects my other daily activities. Have you dealt with that? Any suggestion?

Apart from that, it has been a great journey, with ups and downs, of course. I hope to hear from some of you :)

So, here is my food for today:

Breakfast: Coffee / Tosti's + Hummus + Alfalfa / Blueberries

Lunch: Veggie curry soup (cauliflower, sweet potato, pumpkin, chickpeas, low-fat coconut milk, tomato, onion and lots of seasonings)

Snack: Greek Yogurt + Blueberries

Dinner: Veggie curry soup / Mixed greens + Carrots + Tomato + Goat Cheese (just a bit)

Snack: Banana + Cinnamon

I think it was not a good day in terms of protein, but I cooked A LOT of the Veggie soup and will have to eat it 2 more times soon, as I don't have a freezer. According to Cron-o-meter I just met 70% of my daily needs and I am below the calories that I consider healthy (at least 1200), though I don't add spices there. So I have to improve it.

Welcome on board the WeMitts - the people on here are fab and supportive.

I agree I think in real life people get bored with my diet & exercise raving but on here everyone understands (or people are too polite to tell me to shut up!)

Thank you! I do feel that people here are great! I've been lurking for a while :)

Welcome! :) And well done on your losses/healthy eating so far!

I so agree--it's great to have this place to rant and rave about diet/exercise. I know my husband is probably bored of hearing about it by now.

Hmm, suggestions for not thinking too much about dieting... I do a meal plan (including snacks) once a week, so I only really have to think about nutritional balance, etc. that one day. Avoiding fear and self-blame is harder. I think when you've slipped, it's good to remind yourself that one bad day will not undo months of eating well and exercising.

Anyway, good luck! :)

Stopping by to say hello :) Today's food looks really yummy, it looks much more adventurous than mine!

As for not thinking about dieting all the time - if you find the secret pass it along!
I shall look forward to getting to know you on your journey :)

Thanks for joining girls! If I discover the secret of not thinking about dieting, I'll share :) Meanwhile, I hope it's a great day for all of us. Here in Belgium it's nice and sunny and I have lots of work to do!
The veggie curry soup is super yummy, I just need some time to translate the recipe and I can put it here.
I'll come back later with my food diary :)

Hi Letzes and a big warm welcome from me :)

Oh yes do please put the curry soup recipe here when you have time, it sounds delish!

Hello girls and thanks for joining ladyfelsham! So, it was a good day. I had procrastinated a lot in the past few days and today I've finally managed to finish some of my work. Then I went to the gym and started Week 4 of Couch to 5k :)
Cron-O-meter says that I'm still low in fat and some nutrients, calcium is the one that worries me the most.

Here is my diary for today:

Breakfast: Frittata (1 egg + a bit of skimmed milk + broccoli + corn + onion) / Laughing Cow Light Wedge / Alfalfa (took a picture - but it was better personally)
DSC_0450.JPG

Lunch: packed a portion of the Veggie Curry Soup (still have another portion for tomorrow's lunch).

Snack: 1/2 Apple.

Dinner: Chicken breast fillet / Big salad (mixed greens + carrots + beetroots + cherry tomatoes + goat cheese + sesame seeds and seasonings)
DSC_0452.JPG

Night Snack: Banana + Cinnamon (I am addicted to this and spend the whole day craving for this final snack).

It was the first time I introduced beetroots to my salad and it was good. I want to try new tastes and see how it goes. Got the address of a bio shop near me and will go there when I run out of food.

I totally agree, I think what keeps me going this time is that I don't have a big goal. I just have small goals and see how my body adapts. I've never been on a diet for that long and I've been obese since I was a child.
I hope you like some of the meals and thanks for joining :)

Yep, mini goals are what keep me going. I never had mini goals until I joined the WeMITTS, and it was like a complete breakthrough for me.

I struggle to get enough calcium as well. I usually end up throwing big handfuls of spinach onto food in the last few minutes of cooking, so it wilts a bit (there's something in raw spinach--oxalic acid??--that inhibits absorption of some nutrient or other), since it has a fair amount of calcium.

Well done on starting week 4 of couch to 5k! :D

Hi there Letzes! Popping by to sub so I can follow your journey too!

You have done very well so far and your food looks lovely! I especially like the look of the salad you had with the chicken breast - yummy!

I think when we have a lot of weight to lose (like me!) the only option is to take it in small chunks or else it's too overwhelming, something I'm battling with at the moment.

For low calorie calcium I tend to eat a lot of Fromage blanc 0% from Carrefour, they sell it in 1kg tubs and the whole tub is only about 400 calories (not that I'd have a kg of it!).

Looking forward to reading your diary!xx

Another item for my groceries list! I'm also enjoying being part of WeMITTS :)

Welcome! I'll buy this 0% fat fromage next time I do my groceries - I love cheese and it won't be a sacrifice.

So, today was fine. No pictures of my own food, though :/

Breakfast: Coffee / Banana Pancakes (Recipe below because it's super easy and I had to share).

Lunch: Can you guess? Yes, the last portion of the Veggie Curry Soup.

Snack: 1/2 Pear.

Dinner: Salmon / Pumpkin / Salad (Mixed Greens + Carrots + Beetroots + Cherry Tomatoes).

Night Snack: Greek Yogurt 2% + Blueberries.

Tomorrow is weigh in day and I also have a charity dinner (with pasta and I've chosen the fattest option = Mac and Cheese with Ham) and will spend the afternoon at a friend's house. I know it's not going to be a good day for my diet and I have been thinking about that during the whole week, but I don't want to let the diet affect my already limited social life. I thought about starving myself for the whole morning and then eat with my friend, but it sounds like a really bad /obsessive idea, mainly because I go to the gym in the morning :/ I plan to do lots of exercises on the weekend to compensate and let's see if I'll be brave enough to not weigh in Sunday or Monday morning.

Now, let's talk about yummy things, I cooked this banana pancake this morning and it was delicious, but not really filling, so I'd suggest it as a snack or to have something with it.

Banana Pancakes (2 ingredients)

1/2 Large Banana
1 Egg

Blend EVERYTHING and then make the pancakes in a non-stick pan. This is how it looks like:

I sprinkled some cinnamon while it was at the pan. Also, the original recipe asks for 2 eggs and 1 large banana - it gives you 10 pancakes. I used the ingredients above for one portion and got 4 small pancakes. You can eat with syrup or whatever you want, but it's already good on its own :)

ohh i love salmon thats on my menu for tomorrow
i will have to try the banana pancakes heard about them but never tried x
