1. Calculate how many calories you need to stay in bed all day and not gain weight!

Hi everyone.

Your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is the number of calories your body requires to function when sleeping or lying in bed all day doing nothing.

It is calculated using a formula which considers your gender, age, height and weight.

I'm not advocating lying around in bed all day, but we all have days like that now and again where we're a bit run down or just feel like we deserve a rest because we've been doing too much.

Well here's a fab little tool that I've shared in one of the other forums that might be of use here too as I would think it could come in pretty handy for maintainers.

You can also use it as a base rate for when you are active, by taking your BMR and applying another formula that tells you the total amount of calories your body needs depending on your level of activity from sedentary to extra active.

And the Harris Benedict Formula that you use to estimate your further calorie needs depending on your level of daily activity is at: Harris Benedict Equation

Sorry if this info is a bore to anyone that already knows but not everyone knows about this so I thought it would be good to share.

Xxx

2. Ooooooooo love the idea of staying in bed and losing weight too!!!!

3. My scales measure the BMR, it is interesting

4. I am disabled and not able to move about much. I have picked up a lot of weight and given the above... Can you tell me what the calories would be if you were to stay in bed all day? I only ask as my condition does in fact require me to be in bed most of the time.

5. Hi Triston, click on the link in the Original post and you will be able to work it out. Welcome to the forum x

6. What does a BMR of 1927.9 mean? VERY new at this!!

7. Thanks TAZ!

8. Ok the blond has gone now!
I have figured it out!

That is the amount of calories you can eat and stay the same weight. To lose weight you would have to eat less than that per day

10. Thanks Taz!

That is quite a lot of calories I think.

11. Am so excited about losing weight

12. So are you just calorie counting?

13. Have not decided yet... Just looking around doing the research first before I get a diet in place.

14. Hi Triston. Glad the BMR calculator was useful to you. If you are unsure about dieting and you're not looking for a fast loss, if you decrease your usual calorie intake by 500 kcals a day you should lose 1lb a week because 3,500 kcals equates to about a pound of fat.

Some find it hard to do though because diets that show faster weekly losses motivate and encourage people to carry on with it. I only have a little weight to lose to get to my goal and I've started on the Cambridge Diet (on the 810 kcals a day plan). I've nearly finished my first week and I've lost 8lbs.

15. PoppyPoo are those your tattoo's in the pic in your sig?

Triston I do Slimming World and we have a couple of members who are disabled. One guy is in a wheel chair and he goes to the gym and does upper body exercises
