Story of my life, always one step behind. I finally lose the weight after 30 odd years trying and now fat is the new thin

I am not a thin person, I am a fat person trapped in a thin body. Yayyy!!!

Not sure about this, it is still making a division between 'fat' people and thin people. In the real world there are incredibly thin people, normal sized people, and larger people, I would like to see all these body sizes and heights and races featured in magazines instead of a specialist magazine only featuring size 14 - 16 girls

    I had to laugh...

There I am reading about this magazine which is aimed at women between size 14 & 20 (and since I'm a 26 that excludes me...) and within the article there are four promotional headlines, three of which follow:

Vanity Sizing Swindle - Shops change clothes sizes to flatter their customers
Size 24 woman drops to Size 12 in less than a year after discovering she was called "Fat Steph" on a friends phone (frankly I'd have ditched that friend!)
Big brother winner Josie bids to shift her spare tyre with TWO personal trainers

It is no wonder dieting is so screwed up!

Large as life: The magazine's shapely models are all size 14 to 20, aimed at women who 'don't want to be made to feel bad about the way they look'

I don't feel bad about how the way I look, what makes me feel bad is being patronised about it.

i hope this is not encouraging people to be or stay fat, when it can be lost.

i say this because most people are not naturally fat, they have gained weight, and this is not a good thing. they look worse, older, less attractive, they cant play sports, their stamina is low etc, believe me i know lol, people who are fat should be encouraged to loose the fat because of the health risks.

however i also have an issue with the oposite side of the scale also. when they photoshop those skinny models, it basically raises the bar to an almost impossible level and this would cause people to feel bad about themselves. this doesnt only happen with females, but males aswell now lol, they seem to now increase the male area with photoshop...
if u want something bad enough, u will get it...

I totally agree with you. Sometimes I feel we live in a bipolar society, they only show one extreme or the other and, in my opinion, both can be unhealthy. And unhealthy shouldn't be encouraged, wether we're talking about a size 0 or 20, both are extreme and unhealthy for most people.

People should be loved no matter what they look, but that doesn't mean we should support (or worse, promote) unhealthy lifestyle habits in the despair of showing acceptance.

I wish mags would show more voluptuous models wearing clothes, it's all very well to look in a catalogue and see a pair of jeans on a size 8 model, but I know they wouldn't look like that on me! And how come the plus size models always have fantastic legs and not a patch of cellulite, I'm sure they're just big boned!
