raised blood pressure after eating certain foods

    Hi all

Has anyone ever had an experience where you have felt your pulse rate increase after eating certain foods? It happened to me today after eating some chocolate and its worried me a little because its not the first time its happened. I'm on tablets for high blood pressure which Ive been on for a couple of years now so not sure whether its my body subconsciously telling me off for eating it or if its something I should mention to my doctor??! Xx

I think chocolate contains caffeine which would raise your pulse rate a bit, depening on how much you ate. Do you get the same thing if you drink coffee?

No, it doesn't happen after I drink coffee. It was quite odd. Think I might just keep an eye on it and let my doctor know if it happens again!

Hi Bella30. I've got an ectopic heartbeat, basically I get frequent palpitations but more so after eating chocolate! I don't drink a lot of coffee, but if I combine chocolate and tea that can sometimes set me off on an 'episode'. I can only put it down to caffeine contained in them both.

Sometimes the palps come on when I am just watching telly and haven't eaten for ages...I would recommend you try and cut out one thing at a time from your diet to see if it makes a difference.
