Feeling a bit deflated on Orlistat/Xenical.

I started taking orlistat 7 days ago and all I have lost so far is 1lb 1/4! I have been eating low fat meals, I did have my first oily experience on the 5th day which I was slightly relieved about as up to that point I had been a bit constipated! I know a friend who is also on orlistat who is lighter than me but has lost more weight. I am going to give it a fair shot and carry on with them but I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem?

Hi & welcome. Try not to be disheartened. Dependant on how you were eating before you started the meds your body may wonder what on earth is happening to it. I am sure that by next week you will have a good loss to record. One question is are you actually eating enough? Are you cal counting? If so you need to be eating a minimum of 1200 a day. And I know it's hard not to compare to friends but everyone works differently xx

Hi, Thanks for your response.

Yes I have been eating enough, I have cut out all the bad stuff. I don't eat a lot of red meat anyway. I think I may need to increase my water intake as I've read that drinking a lot of water speeds things up a bit.

Definitely, water is a must x

Don't let it get you down, everyone is different and sometimes weight loss takes time to show on the scales!
You've still lost 1 1/4lb, a pound loss is still a loss and you're heading in the right direction!
I'd say keep an eye on your calorie intake as well as your fat intake and make sure you drink lots of water.
Most importantly stay positive and don't give up, with enough effort and time the weight will start falling off, chin up hun :) x

Hi, I have been on xenical a week and am also following slimming world and I only lost 1lb was so disappointed

A pound is still a pound huni :) stay positive, I'd rather be 1lb down than 1lb up :D
Make sure you're keeping an eye on your calorie and fat intake, I find with low fat diets that its easy to eat more carbs than usual as they have less fat.
I've also found out that when you first start taking the tablets they can make you a little constipated and bloated so you may be carrying a little extra weight because of that.
My advice is stick it out for now and give it your best shot, and if it really doesn't work for you, try something else x

Yes, i am a bit bloated and am constipated which is not unusual for me, Will make use of the chilled water in work today, perhaps that will move things along ! x

I agree with what's been said, stick with it! I have been on them for nearly two weeks and when I weighed at slimming world after 5 days I had put on lb but yesterday I weighed and lost 5lb! It will start to show if you keep with it!
Ps/ I'm doing slimming world but after totting up my calories found I was having way over! Now I've planned my day and found I'm over my syns but under my cals (nightshift food) but either way with sw or cal counting will work if you stick to orlistat rules!

All the best! X

Thanks for the advice guys! I am deffo going to stick with it. Started doing a bit more exercise as well, did the biggest loser workout dvd this morning. Only did 20 mins and it nearly killed me! Plus I've also downloaded the My Fitness Pal app for my phone which is really good for keeping track of how many cals youve had.

My fitness pal is a life saver for me! Good luck Hun! Keep at it and let us know how things go :) x

This is where Im getting confused if Im doing slimming world do I have to count calories because that is just going to totally confuse me lol

I don't think I'd be able to get my head around that either! Lol...too many different rules@ I personally just stick to the calorie counting on mfp!

I am really starting to think that these tablets are not working for me. I have been on them for 11 days and have lost the grand total of 2lb 1/4. I've only had the side effects once, and I have increased my exercise! I'm really starting to feel a bit disheartened! Think I may ring the doctors and see if they can give me any advice!

Hi am also struggling myself been on these tabs for 3 weeks on thur and my stomach has been bloated so now am on water tablets from my doc there is nothing wrong with asking your doc for advice and these tablets are maybe not for everyone I've learned it's not one diet fits all you need to find what works for you if you want to perserve on these pills give them a month and will say mfp is great I use it everyday and find it really helpful

Hi! Do you know how many calories you're eating each day? And how much do you have to lose? The effect of the tablets on weight loss is minimal, they're more of a motivational aid really. Having said that, the ideal rate at which to lose weight is 1-2lbs a week, and you're spot on for that, so don't get disheartened! :) xx

If your bloated, drink aprox 2-3 litres daily.

I can't say this enough, but aloe Vera Juice cranberry flavour! or they also do aloe vera tablets. Works on bloating, wind, constipation etc really well! When I was taking xenical it helped so much!! I still use it now as it helps with windy issues ;)

Hi, I have been on them same amount of time and had my first side effect today, even though I thought I had been really good over weekend. I am going to stick with them as well as slimming world, they may help every half a pound counts!

I have been using My Fitness Pal to track my cals, I'm having roughly 1500 a day, usually less than that. Ive got 3 stone 12lbs to lose. It just feels like I have completely changed my diet and started to move more and only lost 2lbs. I am going to carry on taking the tablets but I am going to see the doctor on wednesday (hopefully) and just see if there is anything they can suggest.
