Yeah, I am feeling that way about getting up at 6am on Tuesday The forecast was way out for today - we were meant to have from first thing this morning but it only started about 30 minutes ago. Pretty heavy at the moment so will have to see how much we get. My close was just beginning to look like I might get my car off it though I suspect I probably won't by tomorrow. Grrrrr. Still need to make out snow hippos before we have to go back to work so hopefully there will be enough to do that with.

Had rather big dinner tonight of beef stew, dumplings and loads of veg. I am feeling rather full so should probably have had a smaller portion but at least I won't want to snack for the rest of the evening

Hope you get to make your snow hippos! Saw a baby Pygmy hippo at the zoo once it was soooo cute! I hope a huge snow storm comes here during the night so I don't need to go back to work and instead can make snow animals :-D x

Any luck with the blizzard, Laura?? We had snow all night and light snow for most of the day but it looks like I *should* be able to get to work tomorrow, although trying to get my car off our road is not going to be fun at all. But we did get to make a snow hippo today! Atomic Pink's Trying To Be Mostly Primal food diary-snowhippo_zpsdc0f4bc8.jpg. I'm rather proud of him Went for an hour or so walk in the snow which was really nice, although I must learn not to start snowball fights with people who I know are MUCH better at throwing and aiming than me. OH managed to get me every single time with his snowballs. I only got him about 4 times. Grumble. I am sure it provided lots of activity points though as there was much manic running away from him from him!

Feel a bit deflated at having to go back to work tomorrow after 4 days at home but I did manage to make a totally scrumptious pumpkin, smoked garlic and chilli soup today which will do me all week for lunches. I was doing a SF day today but have swapped to a pp day a bit naughtily because I really fancy a glass of wine later and realised that even with the rather large portion of spaghettit bolagnaise I have planned for dinner I would only be on 25pp so might as well. Made the cupcakes for work too and only nibbled one small bite from OH's to try. The cake itself is VERY good but unfortunately the frosting is insanely runny despite sitting in the fridge for several hours so its all running all over the worktop. Not entirely sure how I am going to transport them in one piece tomorrow but oh well.

    Sunday 20th Jan SF/ 47 weeklies
    Breakfast: scrambled egg on crumpets
Lunch: Prawns and veg with 25g wholemeal noodles with chilli and garlic
    Snacks: Banana
    2 chocolates - 2pp
Dinner: Beef in ale stew, horseradish and thyme dumplins, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, sprouts and carrots - 5pp Atomic Pink's Trying To Be Mostly Primal food diary-beefstewwithdrumplins_zpsd247059f.jpg

    Exercise: Snow walking - 2AP

Total: 7 weeklies used, 40 left, 9 activity points earnt so far.

    Monday so far - 30pp/ 40 weeklies
Breakfast: ww bagel with cream cheese and bacon - 7pp
Lunch: Pumpkin, smoked garlic and chilli soup with 20g mexicana cheese - 3pp
Small bite of cupcake - 1pp
    Snack: 1 babybel light - 1pp
Plan for dinner: bolagnaise with wholemeal pasta and black cabbage -

Hooray to the snow hippo! I used to love collecting facts about hippos!
Well done on the STS on Saturday. Glad you had a nice weekend. I loved hibernating. I really wanted to do it again today but sadly had to face the snow and wind. Actually more sleet than snow and nasty wind! Urgh. Good luck for getting into work tomorrow.

Haha, glad you like him Sparkle. Its quite upsetting that he will melt at the weekend, I've become rather used to seeing a hippo emerging from my grass when I look out the window... How are things? How is Juddd going?

I have been really crap with updating this week. Sorry. Been on plan food-wise, although consumed 17 weeklies on wednesday. Whoops. On plan the rest of the time though and have exercised every day for the last 8 days. Which I am pretty impressed with. Mid-week scales peeks look horrendeous though I know that you aren't meant to pay much attention to them but I weigh pretty much every day so know what is usual and what isn't. This doesn't look promising for tomorrow. Next week has a couple of food obstacles too. Its OH's birthday tomorrow so currently making a chocolate fudge and caramel brownie cake (firefly style with dinosaurs and palm trees ) and special birthday meal and bowling (where there is likely to be a couple of pints as I REALLY can't bowl without alcohol) and then there's our anniversary on Monday and a meal out. These are all things I should be looking forward to but I am left feeling like I don't have control of my diet. Which would probably feel ok if I wasn't expecting very bad news on the scales tomorrow. Grrrrr.

What I have decided is I am going to give the 5:2 fasting diet a go next week. I was thinking about trying it anyway after christmas once I was back in "diet mode" a bit more and it seems like a sensible time to do it next week as the extravengences are things which would be entirely acceptable. So the plan would be to fast tuesday and thursday, enjoy the celebrations and then just made sensible, moderate choices the rest of the week. Can't hurt to try it for a week. I rather hope the fasting days are easier than the last one I tried.

Off out later tonight for OH's birthday so don't have much time this evening. Will upload the week's photos and catch up on everyone else over the weekend. Hope everyone is ok.

Nearly 2lb up after a 100% week with exercising every day. I am rather less than impressed to say the least.

I know the usual logic of I was pleasantly surprised by a sts last week so maybe my body is a week behind blah blah blah but I certainly didn't deserve a nearly 2lb gain from the previous week either. This seems a fitting time to give the fasting approach a go. I like the way I eat on this plan and I could definitely keep it up for the long term but the reality is I am just not losing weight on it. I think the time may have come for a slightly more drastic approach in the short term. The least drastic approach I can come up with at the moment is JUDDD doing two fasting days a week so we shall see what happens this week.

Also: we got LOADS of snow while we were out for OH's birthday last night and very nearly had to walk home Just about made it home in the car but it was quite hairy. Passed several abandoned cars (including ones on roundabouts and all sorts) and on one of the side roads there was so little steering it was only continual gentle bumping of the kurb that kept us on the road. Is it spring yet??

Feeling a little less grumbly about weigh in. Although only a little.

Feeling a little apprehensive about officially being on JUDDD now, although it feels like it doesn't count as I won't be having a down day until Tuesday, it feels rather more like being off-plan... I am not sure whether I am more apprehensive about the "free" days where I eat what and how much I like until satisfied or the 500 calories days at the moment. Both are rather foreign to me. I think for the first few fast days I am going to try use protein shakes instead of food for the most part and just have 1 or 2 pre-calorie counted meals to make so I don't need to think about it too much. Thinking about food when you can't eat much of it is probably going to be the hard bit. I am thinking a smoked tofu and veg stirfry with zero noodles on tuesday and a pouch of fish in butter sauce with lots of veg on thursday.

    Food pictures from last week:

And finally the birthday cake I made my husband today. Chocolate brownie fudge cake (it is hellishly rich!), it won't make sense to anyone who isn't familar with Joss Whedon's "Firefly" series but hey, it's very tasty anyway. Hi Atomic, I've not been updating lately either. I got the 5:2 fast book earlier this week after reading an article on it. I am finding the whole pointing quite hard going at the moment and thought 2 days of restriction would be more manageable than 7, especially as, like you, I knew that I have some meals out and weekends away coming up. I also was interested in all the other benefits it claims to offer, especially the idea of more energy and better moods as i have been quite irritable lately. I did my first fast (500 kcal) day on Thirsday and found it surprisingly easy. I drank lots of herbal tea during the rumbly tummy times, but when my evening meal of chicken and vegetable stir fry arrived I really, really savoured it and enjoyed the taste. it also helped that I knew I had a lovely meal out to look forward to yesterday. It made sticking to the 500 kcals easy knowing that next day I could have a chocolate biscuit if I wanted it!
I'm not sure how it will work out, but I am willing to give it a good go. On non fast days when I have no social plans I intend to try to eat as sensibly as I feel able to and that will include lots of meals I would normally eat on ww.
I look forward to seeing how you get on, I am planning my next fast day on Monday, although Today has been quite restricted on kcals due to hideous hangover and only being able to keep food and drink down in the last hour!
Enjoy all the celebrations you have ahead. Try not to worry about the gain, it's so frustrating how easily it seems to go on and then how painstakingly slow it is to drop.

Hey Becks, how odd that we both decide to try to 5:2 diet pretty much at the same time! Are you keeping your diary up while you do it? I would be really interested to hear how you are getting on with it. Sounds like your first fast day went really well. I am hoping it will make me appreciate smaller portions of less calorie laden food as well, and the health benefits are really intriguing. I think my plan is fairly similar to yours - don't stress about events and times when I can't control food on "feed" days and eat pretty much the same as I do now on other "feed" days. What is the 5:2 book like? I know its not very expensive so considered getting it but wasn't sure it would really offer anything that I had already read about the plan, I have got the JUDDD book and all the scientific background of intermittent fasting is covered in that. There was a pretty good article about it in this week's radio times too which had some interesting looking meal options. Do you reckon its worth picking up the book?

So day 1 on 5:2 diet. Given it was OH's birthday and one of the days I knew I couldn't control completely I don't think it was *too* bad.

    Saturday 26th January - non-fast day
Brunch: Bagel with lean bacon and light philadelphia
small slice of birthday brownie cake
    Snack: 1 crumpet
    Apple
Dinner: Smoked chicken, mushroom and blue cheese risotto with wilted spinach Always a favourite. I didn't make it any differently to how I do on SF apart from I did use white risotto rice as it was OH's birthday and he prefers it that way, so not quite as indulgent and calorific as it sounds
Evening: 3 pints of lager. I can't bowl without beer, it's just too humilating otherwise!
Late evening snack: Very small piece (about 1 inch x 2inches) of rosemary foccacia

I think if you know the diet science anyhow, it's probably not worth getting the book, however there are some menu plantain there that are quite useful just cos all the calories are already counted for you, but there are also loads online. I got the book so I could make an informed decision and I also looked up lots of other stuff online arguing against it. I thought it would be worth a shot. Try it for a few weeks and see. I am finding ww tedious right now, just the constant pping and feeling guilty if I go over. I knew if I stuck to pp this week I wouldn't enjoy my meal out and be trying to make up for it all week and I hated the thought of that.
I will keep a diary and we can compare notes. It'll also be useful to have an outlet for if the fast days are really hard. Thursday was a good day for me to start because I have uni straight after work until 8pm. Tomorrow may not be so easy. I shall keep you posted and we can help each other out.
Sounds like you did pretty good yesterday, the chocolate cake looked awesome. Enjoy today.

Sounds very restrained for a birthday food day. That cake looks amazing yum! And firefly anythings gets lots of bonus points ;-) I treated myself to the 10 year anniversary firefly celebration book it's gorgeous and full of geeky joy.

I am sure you will be very inventive on the low calorie days and manage some small meals rather than only getting one meal a day. X

I picked up the book when I was out this morning as it was only 3.49 and it does have a pretty good list of calorie content of fruit, veg and stuff which I think would be useful. I am pretty good at knowing the calorie content of stuff I am used to counting but the calorie content of fruit and veg completely passes me by. I know I could get all that info online but sometimes its useful to have something just sitting in the kitchen. I think reading up on the success stories and stuff in the week could help my mindset as well, I guess in the same way as reading the success stories in WW magazine do. I find losing weight so hard in terms of actual results I think its really important for me to see that it is working for other people to stay motivated.

Glad you are going to be keeping your diary, Becks. Will be great to have someone doing it as well. As you said we may well need a fair bit of support some days! I have stocked up on diet coke and diet shandy for my two fast days. I usually try and really limit myself to only a couple a week due to all the scare stories about artificial sweetener but I think they will really really help on fast days as they actually feel like a bit of a "treat" to me and anything that is going to make 500 calories seem easier is good in my book.

Laura - foodwise I don't think yesterday was too bad. The 3 pints were maybe a little excessive, and my head is very very slightly fuzzy this morning. Which may possibly have led to a sausage roll being purchased when out this morning. Ooops. Or not oops i guess on this new diet. Wierd concept. I saw your collectors item Firefly book on facebook when you got it - it looked awesome I was a bit comer to Firefly and only first watched it about 3 or 4 years ago. I loved Buffy and didn't think I would like other Joss Whedon stuff as much but it turned out I liked it even more. Its one of the greatest travesties of all time that it got cancelled after one series

With all the weigh in grump yesterday I forgot to mention an very exciting supermarket discovery on friday - I got the BEST supermarket store I have ever seen. And most surprisingly it was a Morrisons :0 I noticed it on the road when I was passing to get to a work appointment fairly near it on friday so nipped in on the way back to pick up some bananas and was simply blown away by their fruit and veg section! Most of it was all loose stuff and looked more like the American wholefood stores you see pictures of than a UK supermarket and they had everything you could possibly imagine. Lots of unusual loose herbs like chervil and thai basil, 4 different types of kale, lots of unusual loose salad items like different chicories, raddiccio etc, exotic things like lotus root, fresh tumeric and samphire and sea beet. So exciting! I didn't really have time to look around the rest of it much but the fish counter also looked really good. Its about a 20 minute drive from me but I may have to make a special effort to shop there at least once a month as the array of veg had me practically giddy with joy for the rest of the day. I possibly need to get out more if 4 types of kale make me that excited...

First 5:2 dilemna; going to make a kidney bean, spinach and mushroom curry for work lunches on non-fasting days this week and tying myself in knots about whether I should add a few small bits of paneer to it. Hmmmm. Decisions decisions. On ww I wouldn't have added it because I didn't like using points on work lunches but its not exactly unhealthy in small quantities... Although it probably isn't nutritional "necessary" with the kidney beans... Arghh! Food decisions sometimes hurt my brain. I'm almost looking forward to the fast days so I don't have to as many decisions to make!
