Hope you enjoy your weekend away. This plan does seem to lend itself really well to social plans. Its like you get all your moderation and self-deprivation over in two short, intense bursts and then can forget about it for the rest of the week. I do still feel a little dodgy about all the social plans but I do think this is a rather abnormally social week. And its probably drinking more than once in a week that bothers me more. I really don't do that very often at all. And i guess in the future there is the potential for having 3 fasts in a week if I feel I need to.

Next fast day is tomorrow. Quite looking forward to it. Its nice to plan appointments at work without worrying about when I will be able to get lunch too! Its probably making me more productive at my job too!

Oooh we will be fasting together then! Thursday is a good day for me as I'm at uni straight from work so distracted.
I'm worried about the booze this weekend too. I'm not sure if it is going to be a weekend of slobbish around or if she wants to go out and get messy! I can cope with some moderate drinking but my hangover from the weekend has left me scared of drinking again!

What have you got planned for you meals tomorrow? I'm having boiled egg and ham and for tea a tortilla pizza! It's another day from the book but it's just an easy way for me to plan my day and get variety in.

Thanks moonwatcher, the reassurance helps! I see that you decided to take the fasting plunge too, quite excited that we are all trying it at the same time.

Becks - are you usually going to do thursdays? I think i am probably going to mainly stick to tuesday and thursday for my fast days, unless there is something planned that makes sense to change them. Eggs and ham sounds like a nice breakfast. I seem to be sticking to protein shakes for breakfast on a fast day, they taste pretty good and don't set off the urge to eat anymore, which does seem to occur after eating dinner.

Today has been a bit harder as a fasting day, although not really down to hunger, which is still easier to ignore than i thought it would be, but because there was lots and lots of temptation everywhere! Was at a meeting this morning where my new team leader bought cake for anyone. I was the only person that didn't have any which actually felt ok. Then I was out and about for visits and had to pop into a supermarket to use the toilet and managed to only buy a can of diet coke. Then the hardest part of all was my last appointment was representing someone at a tribunal which is in the city centre. I have never before realised how much food and how many food smells are everywhere in town!! But I managed to resist so really rather proud I didn't manage to get to the gym though which is a shame. The tribunal was running an hour and a half behind schedule which meant it would have been too late to go to the gym. And at least get home at a reasonable time in order to spend time with the OH as planned. Thinking of going tomorrow morning before work instead. Thinking about it... I really haven't had a great exercise week but will definitely get back to after tomorrow.

Thursday 31st Jan, 2nd fast day.
Strawberry protein shake with almond milk and water - 143 calories
Cup of coffee with tiny smidge of milk - 10 calories
Smoked salmon, basil and parmasan omlette with mushrooms, chard and samphire with smoked garlic. - 310 calories
Atomic Pink's Trying To Be Mostly Primal food diary-smokedsalmonomlettewithmushroomschardandsamphire_zpse2b600d0.jpg
Exercise: much much walking during the day.

So that's a total of 467 calories. Not really enough spare to do anything with so will just call it quits for the day and look forward to tomorrow. Next fast will be next tuesday so have 4 days of eating freely to enjoy

Ooh. Can't wait to see how u have done when u weigh in on Saturday. I got my appointment for the dietician through. Bloody April. Asked to be put on a list in case there are any cancellations. Don't know how u can manage to resist the food when fasting.

Well done on another successful fasting day! It's interesting that a couple of you are all trying it - although I am too close to target now to really want to consider any other diet options I am very interested in these great results. Hope it works just as well for you x

Sounds like another great day atomic. Yes I plan on sticking to Thursdays for now, it suits me cos I am at uni til 8 so really not much opportunity for me to search for food and keeps me distracted. Temptation hasn't been an issue for me today, even when opening the biscuit box to put stuff in, but hunger has been quite bad at times. I'm about to eat shortly.
Walking so much will compensate for the gym for sure, don't be so hard on yourself! Have you got a yummy breakfast planned for tomorrow? I'm going to have crumpets with almond butter and honey, maybe with a glass of almond milk! Going to use your cheesy scrambled egg idea on Tuesday but buy some muffins to put it on!

Yes - it's nice to be able to compare notes, and food!

I wouldn't worry about not getting to the gym - you sound like you were very busy and although it encourages exercise on fasting days too, it perhaps is good to not give your body too much of a shock until it has adjusted to the changes a bit. I may be totally out on that - just a gut feeling.

Well done on resisting all the food sights and smells! Do you know, I think in some ways it's easier on these plans - it's very simple on a fasting day - 500 cals and that's it - no grey areas of using weeklies. APs, etc. We have 500 calories, full stop! Certainly focuses the mind! I may need you to remind me of that one day though!

I have no idea what is going on this morning! I have got up early for the gym but have found myself with an extra 35 minutes to kill before it opens :0

Thanks for you kind words guys. Woke up not feeling ravenous again which is lovely, going to wait to have breakfast until after the gym at work. Not sure what I am going to have for lunch at work today as I was meant to be on training all day with lunch provided but that has been cancelled as the trainer is ill. Might have a baked potato from the canteen. Its very strange being so unplanned with food at the moment, when on SW or WW i verged on neurotically obsessive about what I was going to be having for each meal! Off to friends for dinner and drinks tonight, no idea what is being cooked but plan on stopping at only a couple (of hopefully small) glasses of wine. Out again tomorrow for dinner and someone's birthday and really don't want to overdo it, with the food or the alcohol. I am really quite intrigued to see what weigh in brings tomorrow, not getting my hopes up too much but sneaky peaks each morning have been promising.

Hells - sneaked a look at your diary last night to see weigh in result but website was being awkward so couldn't post - congratulations on the 1/2 lb loss, that sounds a pretty good result given you've been freestyling for the last week. Is the plan to incorporate fasts into SW this week? And in answer to your questions I attend mostly benefit tribunals. Definitely not in law! Don't think the bright pink hair would go down that well in that profession! I am a benefits, housing and debt advisor.

Mitch - its pants you have to wait until April for the dietican appointment but hopefully it will give you some answers, long overdue. The resisiting of food when fasting isn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be. And I say this as someone who has always lived in utter fear of missing a meal. Especially during the day when you aren't eating at all its really easy, its a bit more difficult after eating in the evening but if you distract yourself the idea goes away pretty quickly. I think as Moonwatcher said the absolute nature of "you can have 500 calories and do more" does make it more straight forward, there's no real decisions to be made.

Moonwatcher - yeah i know a week with only 2 gym visits isn't going to kill me, I just always feel a bit guilty if I am not going at least 3 or 4 times. Partly because its so bloody expensive! I feel like i should get my money's worth! Are you looking forward to your eating freely day today?? Hope your illness has improved a bit so you can enjoy it more.

Laura - thanks, I am trying not to get my hopes up that this will work in the same way for me because we all know how utterly cranky my body is when it comes to losing weight but quietly hopeful at the moment. You've done so well to get to target (and you will be back there soon) so definitely no point swapping plans at this stage.

Becks - enjoy your weekend, whatever it brings. See you next week for our next adventures in the avoidance of food

    Right, gym time. Bye.

Enjoy the gym and whatever food you decide on eating today! I agree the planning thing is a hard habit to get out of! I plan evening meals so that I at least know what to buy and how much cooking time I need on a evening, but breakfasts and lunches I've just been seeing how feel. I find evenings hard too, after eating on an evening it tends to up my appetite and it's much harder than through the day when you know you just won't be eating. I eat quite late at night so that has helped somewhat as I'll either have a bath or go straight to bed.
Have a great weekend, sounds like you have lots of fun stuff planned and even though I'm away I'll attempt to check in tomorrow to see how WI goes for you. Fingers crossed for a happy atomic face, you deffo deserve one.

Gym was really good, very glad I went. Been at work for 30 minutes and still contemplating breakfast options. I bought a muffin, quorn sausage and dairylea slice in for breakfast but it is also quite tempting to utilise the canteen for a black pudding and egg roll though...

I've been employing similar fast day evening strategies, although mine it around getting upstairs away from the food! I've been suggesting to OH that we snuggle in bed from about 8 o'clock and watch a film or wildlife documentary. Its been pretty fun actually.

Are you at work today Becks? Or going away after work? Have fun anyway. Will hopefully be posting weigh results saturday lunch time as will be aiming for early morning swim.

Well, *small drum roll* scales show a 2.6lb loss this morning which I am rather pleased with I did gain just over 1.5lbs last week so i guess its that gone plus another lb. Given all the yummies that have been consumed this week (including lasagne, garlic bread, chocolate fudge cake and wine at my friend's last night) I am pretty pleased that that could lead to a loss at all. The real test for me will be whether I can keep losing anything most weeks, that appears to be the difficult thing for me, I can get the odd loss here and there but there is never any consistency to it. But I am also holding on the fact that the plan has alot of reported health benefits besides weight loss, and that was always what the weigh loss was about for me - improving my health and chances of living forever! Its also been really nice to feel so care-free and in control about food so I will definitely be sticking with the 5:2 plan for the next month or so to see how things go.

Hope everything is enjoying their weekend. I have just got back from a swim at the gym and shopping. Out later for a friend's birthday for beer and burgers (the best pub burgers in the world). Its nice that there is no dread attached to it as there usually would be due to worrying about the points etc. I think I feel the closest to "normal" about food than I have for the best part of a decade.

Wow Atomic that's fab, I never lose that much in a week

I've ordered some egg whites and miso soup and am planning a fast day, possibly Monday then was going to say Thurs but am on an away day in a hotel with food provided so might do Friday instead.

I was browsing some JUDD diaries last night and saw some people talking about fasting from 5pm-5pm etc, what do you think about that? It sounds easier but it feels a bit like cheating IYSWIM
