Lexies first go at Primal/Paleo

UNLEASHING THE BEAST!
Well here goes.

I'm Lexie. I'm 31 and a mother to 1 very active toddler. I have PCOS. This combined with a lot of weight gain is making trying to get to 2 very active toddlers/children near impossible. My cycles are erratic and the GP won't help me until I lose weight.

Which, is easier said than done. I've tried Slimming World, I've tried VLCD and whilst they've been fine in their own way not given my the fix or right fit I've been looking for. After much examination of my eating habits I've looked at Paleo and giving it a go as I want to FEEL better and not be so focused on my cycle of gain weight, lose weight, gain weight, lose weight, gain weight - OH F**K IT. It's also complicated by the fact I'm a Nightshift worker, and can often be awake for almost 24 - 30 hours at a stretch which is stressing my body out and I'm finding it very hard to lose weight.

I'm just starting and find all the fats/protein/carb ratio advice a bit conflicting. So to start with I'm trying to eat more HEALTHILY and LOSE weight, so my fat intake might not be as high as expected on some plans. Starts weight this morning is 15stone and 12.8 lbs.

So thanks for reading and here goes.

Day 1:

B- Salad of raw spinach, melon, chicken thigh, mushrooms
L: Chicken breast (leftovers), 2 slices bacon, mushrooms, chinese leaf, coffee with Almond milk
D: Chilli made with 20% fat beef mince, chillies (Ancho, Pasilla and chipotle), bone broth instead of stock/water, served with mushrooms, spinach, peppers, onions
S: 10 almonds,

According to MFP my intake for today is:

1192 cals, 40g carbs, 71g fat and 106g protein.

Had a complete wobble when I got to work on Nightshift. Nightmare. Crisps, cakes, coffee with sugar in.

So got back on yesterday evening. Had a good dinner (bef joint that was done in slow cooker with garlic and salt, nothing fancy) and then a dinner about 1am on Night shift of leftover spicy mince and onions, mushrooms and peppers.

Today has been a good day, came home after a night shift and had 4 hours sleep before I went to pick up the wee one from nursery

B: Apple,
L: None
S: wee drop walnuts and a few raisins
D: Pork steaks (2) done in the slow cooker with apple, had it with brocolli and swede
S: a clementine and some defrosted raspberries, cup of tea with almond milk.

Good points: Drank water today NO PEPSI!, refused cake at soft play group,
Bad: Belting migraine, hence not eating too much

Plan for Saturday

no breakfast: long lie
Lunch: Pork steak with spinach, tomato, onion curry
Dinner: Carrot and courgette pancakes, with 3 slices back bacon and fried mushrooms
Snacks: 4 dates and a few almonds

I have a large gammon in the fridge and I'm debating which particular way to shred it. I also got a lovely delivery of dried chillies from eBay which include Chipotle, Pasilla and Ancho.

Also could be quite annoyed with husband: I had 'detoxed' the house as it were of bad foods like Ice cream, chocolate, crisps, biscuits etc and I wake up post migraine today and he's bought Digestives and chocolate. I'm trying really hard to break the habit of something sweet after dinner and now I can hear them calling me. Bad husband.

Good job on avoiding the Pepsi! :)

Slow cooker disaster: Cracked my slow cooker and had to bini the chilli I had cooking away for tonight's dinner. So husband opted for McDonalds for the wee one and I had the pancakes and that as above. Then a coffee or tea later with some almond milk

Got a new slow cooker and it's either traditional beef roast or gammon tomorrow. Husbands leaning towards gammon.

Got my almonds soaking for almond milk tomorrow too instead of buying it at £1 a carton, I'll try my own.

Yesterday:

B: Apple, blueberries, water
L: Gravadlax and some veggie side at IKEA,
D: Honey and Mustard slow cooked gammon, brocolli with butter
S: Paleo balls (dates, cocoa, coconut oil, nuts and dessicated coconut), tea with homemade almond milk

Today:

B: 3 eggs scrambled with 1 teaspoon coconut oil, 2 slices bacon and 1 mug homemade almond milk as a latte
L: None :'(
D: 2 racks of ribs at Tony Romas, side of bacon macaroni cheese, large glass diet pepsi

The gammon is lovely!

B: Gammon and about half a head of brocolli
L: 2 teaspoons of ghee, 3 eggs and some more gammon
D: Tuna steak with spicy sweet pepper salsa

Well I'm not very good at this. Had a takeaway (Indian) last night. Oh well. Onwards!

Weigh in this morning 15st 10.4 lbs - so lets call that a 2.5lb loss shall we? Not bad!

I expect as I break my carb cravings and stop eating so many dates etc that this weight loss should get easier/better.

B: Soupie. It was supposed to be a smoothie but I added too many frozen berries and it's too thick. 250 almond milk, 1tbsp coconut oil, 1 fun size banana and up to the 200ml mark with frozen mixed berries.
L: Tuna and spicy pepper salsa
D: Cucumber 'Noodles' and a bit of chicken I think.

That's a great loss! Well done :)

Mmmmm. Leek and cauliflower soup

tablespoon coconut oil
3 rashers bacon, chopped
1 large leek sliced
cauliflower (about maybe half a head, I used frozen)
water
salt to season
1/4 - 1/3 carton coconut cream

Fry off bacon in the coconut oil, until starting to brown, add leak and cook on low heat til softened, add cauliflower, add water to cover, add salt to season, Blend.

Sit in coconut cream. Lovely.

B: Pork liver, bacon, onions, Large glass of water, mug of ginseng tea
L: Mug of soup, fruit (apple, melon, strawberries)
D: Chicken thighs with carrots (from slow cooker), butternut squash

NIGHTSHIFT TONIGHT.

D: Bowl of cauliflower and leek soup, 500ml coconut 'milk' (KoKo) for coffee and drinking.

B: None - bedtime - Nightshift was horrific. Ate what I shouldn't . Drank 3 mugs sugary coffee.
L: Smoothie if I have time.
D: Pork loin steaks, pineapple, peppers, jerk seasoning, served alonside brocolli.
