    Smile Lets talk sugar

I know Donna's next question will be sugar.

What does everyone use to sweeten or use to bake with?

I use honey, Tiana Organic Crystallised Coconut Nectar which is like Light Muscovado sugar and I use Xylitol for white sugar.I also used Xylitol ground down to make marzipan and to make some butter icing.

I try and have no sugar at all. But occasional stevia in protein shakes if required. Not sure how well stevia works in baking though.

I've ordered some sweetleaf brand stevia to try as had/ have been using sweet freedom which is a low GI sweetener

But what I really wanted was some thing I can bake with that tastes ok, my kids like cupcakes .. And have a pretty good primal based recipe I created through trial and error .. But changing the sugar out is hard .. It only has 1/2 a cup in 24 cupcakes but still ..

Why not try Xylitol.Ingredients 100% Xylitol.Made from naturally occuring Birch tree extract. On the pack it says Made from 100% Birch tree extract from Finland, with no other xylan or corn ingredient.

The "sugar" that won't wreck your body

While Xylitol is just as sweet as table sugar (sucrose), it has about 40% fewer calories and 75% fewer carbohydrates. That in itself can make a big impact on your waistline! Importantly, xylitol is slowly absorbed and metabolized, resulting in very negligible changes in insulin. Xylitol therefore won’t raise your blood sugar like regular sugar, which puts tremendous strain on your system, causing negative health effects.

I tried baking with it, but didn't like the after taste., my kids didn't like it much either .. Which is why I will try the coconut "sugar" As I bake mainly for kids - cupcakes, birthday cakes, plus banana cakes when the bananas have gone to far. For me I only use it if I have a hot cocoa - made from plain cocoa powder, just need a little bit of sweetness

My sugars arrived today., impressed with the Tiana coconut nectar sugar, made some coconut. Choc cookies with it., OH says they look like dog $*** lol. But taste very rich dark choc ., no sugar buzz either

The cinnamon stevia drops - smell yummy - but have yet to try them.. Next time I make arrowroot pancakes will add some, also bought some stevia clear drops - will try in my hot choc next time.

Funny I used to love my hot choc - but this morning enjoyed it but only drank 1/4 of mug.. Tossed rest away.

I've not used it in cakes or cookies yet.Did you just replace the normal sugar in recipe with the same amount of nectar sugar in your cookies?

I did make a crumble with almond flour, butter and some nectar sugar and it turned out well.
