found out i have PCOS

Hi I found out I had PCOS a month ago, the doctor wasn't helpful at all he said I have it on the right side he never said size or anything, I think I was in shock to ask him anything put all he said was me to lose weight, I've losted over 2 stone in 4 months, put I was planning on trying for baby number 1 next year after Christmas and I'm so scared it won't happen for me :( is anyone the same? PS I get a period every month put I'm always late by two weeks, at the minute I'm 13 days late getting cramps and bleeding on and off.

Hi I was only diagnosed about a month ago so I'm still researching and learning a lot at moment. I am currently going through a referral for metaformin but not 100% clear on what it helps so can't help too much with that. I also get periods each month, was 30 day regular before I went on pill. Since coming off its taken nearly 6 months to get some kind of regular cycle again because I plan to start trying for our 1st baby afte four wedding in April :) losing weight is meant to help and sounds like you've lost an amazing amount already! Some people struggle, some don't so it's hard not to worry, I constantly think about it tbh x

Hi im the same its always on my mind, and my partner tells me not to worrie put its so hard, ive had such a stressful year this year with lossing my dad to cancer in jan so thats why I though my period was messed up, put it was the PCOS I was thinking of going on the pill till Christmas to fix my period put I dont no :(

I think some pills can help regulate it for you but I was on cerezette and like I said it took 6 months for it to regulate. I would ask your doctor the best pill to regulate them :) x

Gosh Irishmolly, I can totally relate to your story, sadly I have PCOS 13 years and unfortunately I had to learn all about it the hard way. You have done the right thing by joining here, when I was diagnosed I was totally in the dark and there was no support groups/forums around then and a lot of the time I had to rely on what my gynae told me but when I joined a group, I learned so much and you will find that here too.

Don't stress yourself out about it, a lot of women have it and they can manage it. I was put on metformin (depends on the gynae you go to as some are for and some are against) but it didn't suit me but then I was told about the metformin SR and that worked well, I'm not on them now but I know if I do need to go back on them then they work well for me.

The weight is important, not sure what diet your on but I'm in slimming world and I have cut out bread more or less completely and it seems to be working. Do you mind me asking are you Irish (seems an obvious question) but I'm Irish too and depending on what route you want to take I'm sure there is someone here who will be able to help you.

Glad you came on as I went through this myself and it is not something you want to do on your own

Hi thanks for the reply im in slimming world too and lost 2 stone, I just really want to know if I should go on the pill to sort my period out because at the min I do be 15 days late and I get a period for 6 days with help from any meds so I don't know if that's a good sign

Thanls lisa and yea im irish from Dublin x

I was diagnosed officially with PCOS two years ago when we started trying to conceive baby number one but I also have endometriosis. Id been on microgynon for most of my adult life (apart from a break or two to try for a baby with my ex hubby which didn't work). It kept my periods regular when I was on it but as soon as I came off it they stopped. From August 2011 to April 2013 I had two periods. I went to the docs in December 2012 after 16 months of ttc and was referred to a fertility specialist. They confirmed I have PCOS in both ovaries. I had a laparoscopy which confirmed my endometriosis too and was waiting for another op to remove it before fertility treatment. Less than a month after the laparoscopy I fell pregnant and I'm now 27 weeks. My BMI was 32 at the time of conceiving but I'd lost 4 stone in the run up to it.
There is hope for people with PCOS. I used to think it was the end of the world when I was diagnosed, I was distraught and thought it means no babies. But I'm proof that it doesn't and the more I looked into the more I found that people get pregnant all the time with it. Good luck xx
