PCOS and need to lose over 100lbs

Hello, I am new to this forum but I am at my wits end now :( I weigh just over 21 stone :sigh: I have tried every diet under the sun and the lowest I got was 16 stone a few years ago because I went on the Cambridge diet and got really ill off of it (I lost a stone in a week....not good!)
I got told at 18 that I may have PCOS but most likely just IBS it was when I started to get a lot of pain at 21/22 and was taking a lot of time off, I had a op and they confirmed that I had PCOS! Although they still don't know why I get a lot of pain still!
I have all of the lovely side effects and I am sick and tired of feeling like a over weight man and would love to get back down to being slim again like I was in my teens!.
Now at 25 I am looking to sort my life out and eating healthier as I am worried I will not make it till me 30s if I don't do anything about it now. I have tried many diets and have been told that the low GI diet is good for people with PCOS with insulin resistance as it helps with keeping blood sugars even.
Every Monday I have great intentions to re start a healthy eating style rather than a diet because I know it is for life! How ever I tend to fail after 1 day. I try not to have bad food in the house but my Boyfriend likes to eat junk and so does my house mate and they don't even put a pound on! I also know that if I want something sweet I can bake something easy, I don't even think about it I will find a way!
I am now very depressed about my weight and go round in circles, going on a diet, braking my diet, then over eating because I have broken my diet.

I read so many success stories and would love to be one of them but I have no motivation any more after the years of failed diets and I really don't want to have surgery to lose weigh I want to do it myself!

Thank you for listening to me I know it is a long post but I am at braking point today and need help as I cant do it on my own any more!

Lou

Hi Lou, sorry to hear you are feeling depressed. I know being overweight can really get you down.

I also have PCOS and find it really hard to lose weight, yet can gain 10lbs in a week so easily. My hubby is like your bf and housemate, he eats everything in sight and never gains a lb. so annoying.

The only diet that have ever worked for me is lipotrim. I know its not healthy eating and its not for life but during total food replacement you can change how you view food and hopefully have a better relationship with it after you have finished on the diet.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Take care x x

Thank you so much for your reply! I will have a look into, it sometimes a boost of weight loss helps people on their way especially of they have a lot to lose, so I will definitely look into it!
It's so frustrating that some men can be like that and very hard to stay on a diet when they have "yummy" food around!

Thank you again for replying :)

I started at 22 stone 10 and currently at 18 stone 11. It's taken me a few years but I'm getting there.

I've been following slimming world- you should research and do what's comfortable for you.

Here if you need any help.

Rozie.

Hi loubee

I've been struggling with my weight for a long time and the only thing that worked for me is the Dukan diet. PCOS sufferer as well and after loosing approx. 45 lbs my insulin resistance has gone away.

It cuts down carbs drastically and helps with the cravings, as you are allowed to eat as much as you want of the allowed lean protein foods.

Minimins is a great place for support and motivation whatever you decide to go with.

xx

Thank you! I'll look into it I try not to eat too many carbs (easier said than done!) I think for me I need a complete life style change and not just a diet if that makes sense! Thank you all for replying it's so nice to get some support :)

HI, sorry to read your feeling so bad but I understand, I have tried everything to lose weight, every group going and trying it on my own. I'm currently doing slimming world and I have to say in the 3 weeks I've followed to plan I've lost 9lb (weighing in tonight again) I've not craved a single piece of junk food and finally I'm looking forward to going back out to walk. For me personally the junk food is the cause of not just weight gain but also the depression I suffer. I hope you can find something that helps xx

Hi LouBee,

Im also a pcos sufferer and also extremely overweight (22st +) darent weigh myself yet. Every diet plan going ive tried and to say ive lost and then gained plus some would be an understatement. Im also looking at low gi food, and preferably to stay away from carbs as ive read that these are also bad for people with pcos. So basically very similar to yourself! Ive got everything planned for the start of the new year new me! I know there are going to be bad times and good but i want to promise myself not to give up as before, its got to be a total lifestyle change so here's looking at you hun, hope we both make it, (no matter how long it takes)

Feel free to keep in touch if you want a buddy ?

Luv n hugs
Lou x

Thanks hun! I lost over 10lbs in 3 weeks because I was on my feet 16+ hours a day for 3 weeks with out a day off so hoping that this was a kick start but xmas came a long too! I think I too am having to reduce carbs as well I think your right carbs and pcos don't go together as much as I love carbs! Would be great to have a buddy to support each other but not sure how you do it on here+

Hi hun, im not sure how we buddy on here either, are we allowed to swap email addresses do you think?

Think its going to be an interesting ride!

Ive got a couple of books for gi values but i read that carbs have the same effect on the sugar levels so i need to try and do the protein etc.

Can i ask how you was thinking of tackling the exercise stuff!! I can walk to end of street without getting breathless and back ache so im abit concerned on what exercise to do and how much.
xx

I don't know either if you can or not! I have a book on low gi and low GL which is quite good it explains about blood sugar too! I do walk a bit and I use my cross trainer although I haven't done for a while I will be starting it up again tomorrow I think!

Whats the book called? I must admit i feel like im here again with the "im guna lose weight" seem to do it every year but get nowhere..

I read a book on my kindle thinks its was called why we are fat. It went on abit but did explain that the carbs if not used straight away have same effect as sugar..

God help us hun, heres to a good 2014 for us both...

Whats your first change? I find if i do too much i lose interest straight away xx

It's called low gi low gl by Patrick holdford (think that's his name!) It's quite a good book! I am going to up my exercise I have a cross trainer at home bought it 2ed hand so I'm going to do half an hour a day on that and try to walk more! I am going to cut out all sugar (chocolate crisps etc) and eat more whole wheat rather than white bread and pasta! What about you?
