    PCOS symptoms after weight loss

    Hi all,
Just wondering with regards to the lovely symptoms that come with PCSO really. I suffer hair in unwelcome places and didnít before I put on all this weight. I believe its linked to PCOS and I never had it before I got so big. Just wondered if anyone has any positive stories on their PCOS symptoms subsiding as the weight comes off? I get pin point pain too in my ovaries sometimes too, but no bleed as have a Mirena which is a God send.
    Any stories?

    Hi,

I have pcos and when I lose weight my symptoms virtually disappear, what I notice most is acne. When I am heavier this really flares up but when I have lost weight my skin clears considerably, also, my period becomes a lot more lighter and regular when I lose weight to. You will defo notice a difference in symptoms as the weight is lost x

    HI

When I lost weight (sadly I am back up to where I started) all my PCOS symptoms disappeared; no heavy painful bloating, etc.. I just need to be able to lose the weight...again!!!!

I'm not sure yet. I've been on Slimming World 8 months and am nearly at target - if I weigh naked in the mornings I'm just about at a healthy BMI now.

I think maybe my periods are a bit more regular, though I had a blip recently (I realise losing weight itself can confuse the body).
My facial hair is worse if anything, and the hair on my stomach (had it lasered off a few years ago) is growing back a bit. It might just be that the laser I've had in the past is wearing off.
My acne is maybe a tiny bit better, but not much to be honest.
I have much worse dandruff, which I only recently learnt is a PCOS symptom.
On the plus side, as I lose weight it is not getting harder to lose more, as some people without PCOS find. I wonder if the reduced hormonal problems counteract the tendency for weight loss to slow nearer target!

I'm confused by the fact that some of my symptoms seem worse, not better, and I've found some others on the internet with the same problem. I don't want to put anyone off losing weight, but I think it's helpful to be aware that it might not solve everything - or at least not immediately. I'm really hoping that after a while at a healthy weight, my body will stabilise and symptoms will reduce. I'm going to look into whether there are any nutrients I'm missing too, and try a lower-GI diet.

Just thought I'd update here. I think my hair growth is getting better now - the increase in growth seems to have been a bit of a 'blip'. I'm definitely plucking my chin less. I'm getting some more laser treatment on my sideburns and stomach and hope this time it won't grow back as I'm at a healthier weight.

I read somewhere (don't know how true it is) that when we lose weight, some hormones that were 'stored' in the fat cells get released and can mess things about. This is why people who lose weight often skip periods for a bit. I wonder if this 'release' of hormones explains my sudden period of hair growth? If so hope it's all been flushed out now!

    Hi,

I have suffered with PCOS for years and the doctors always told me losing weight would help especially with my periods which were previously every 40 to 60 days.

I have recently lost 3 1/2 stone and if anything i things have got worse, my periods are now anything from 70 - 100 days between each one and i know have other symtoms i never had before such as hair on stomach although i will say that i no longer seem to get the 2 hairs under my chin i always had.

I am jsut confused as i would always told the weight lose would help so i dont know what else to do, i have been on the diet 8 months now so i cant even really hope it will settle down

    xx

I was diagnosed with PCOS at healthy weight, and only symptoms I had at time was period of amenorrhoea that recovered. I was investigated for amenorrhoea at the time hence the diagnosis. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes in 2 pregnancies was on insulin and then weight gain cycle began. Now that I am overweight, I think I have all the symptoms, in fact the symptoms are my motivation to loose weight. You will definately feel better without the weight.

    Hey,

I have PCOS and when I previously lost 5 stone, everything improved. Im back at my heaviest and my chin is worse that it was before I lost the weight the first time. All the pains were barely there before are now back with full force. Cant wait to get healthy again and for it all to calm down hopefully! I can't believe I've only just found this site. Its so valuable in so many ways!

I have to agree with you curly locks ever since i gained weight it's like i've slowly been getting hairier! The gynae offers me no help whatsoever except to 'Fat-shame' me. Had about enough of that so looking to lose around 5 stone and prove her wrong!
