Razadanby, I was told the same about having to go down the I.V.F route in order to conceive. At the time (4yrs ago) my doctor recommended I tried the Cambridge Diet as I was almost 16 stone, before trying for I.V.F. He did explain that not many doctors recommend this diet as it has been criticised for being more of a 'crash' diet then anything, but obviously I had a lot of weight to lose and due to my case of PCOS being quite severe, my chances of conceiving sooner rather then later were a lot better. It took me almost 3 months to lose pretty much 4 stone, I came off the diet for a bit over the xmas period but still maintained my weight loss and then when I decided to carry on with it, something didn't feel white right. Me and my parter had been 'trying' for around 2 months and BINGO, I found I was pregnant!

Im not telling you this so you stop Slimming World and try Cambridge, as Im now doing SW and absolutely love it, much healthier way of losing weight, Im telling you this because there is always hope! Don't just sign yourself up to never conceiving naturally as it does happen! I think the doctors just prepare you for the worst rather then sugar coating everything.

I really hope that once you are down to a healthy weight and happy and confident that you are as lucky as me and my partner.
All the best on your weight loss and baby making journey x x x

    Hi all

So comforting to read that there are other people suffering from the same problems as me. I was diagnosed with PCOS in my late teens im now 27. I've been to see a specialist who basically told me that i needed to loose weight and stop smoking. I go to to see him once a year and im due to go back in october. I had lost 2 stone from the last time i saw him but fell by the way side and put it all back on again. I started back at WW on monday and am determined to loose the weight this time but know when i go to see him that im just going to get a telling off. I'm tempted to cancel the appointment until i loose the weight but am afraid that if i do they might stroke me off and as im nearly ready to have children i dont want to risk my chance of not being able to get treatment if i need it. Has anybody got any advice??

    Hi Broocas

I was also diagnosed with PCOS when I was in my teens, but my specialist was not much help. The only treatment for PCOS I was ever offered was metformin which I reacted badly to. I found speaking to others who has it and searching on the internet was much more helpful. I lost around 4 stone and conceived my little girl (now 17 months) I think losing weight did help as it seemed to reduce some of the symptoms. I was also taking agnus castus herbal supplement which is supposed to help.

I put the weight back on during pregnancy and now trying to conceive again. Even 10% loss can help.

I hope it all works out for you x

    Hi everyone.
I also have pco and have been doing atkins diet for 3 weeks.
My insides are contantly covered in adhesions and i go into hospital every year to have them removed.
At the moment i have a large cyst on ovary which is stuck to my bowel, stomach and a hernia.
since starting my diet i have been in lots of pain and can bearly move.
I dont think its the diet just my condition.
Was just wondering if anyone else suffered with this as well as would be nice to know its not just me!!!!

Have only just joined this site and am amazed to find a section on PCOS.

I was diagnosed in my early twenties and am now late thirties. I would love to have children and am currently trying to conceive - but am overweight. I'm taking Clomid and have joined Slimming World. I'm feeling healthier and only hope that a significant weight loss will help and fingers crossed assist with a reduction of facial hair. Don't know how much longer I can afford Laser Hair Removal.

    Good luck to all x

    Hi
I am a newbie here but i also have the daily struggle with PCOS. I was diognosed when i was 18.. then at 26 told i didnt have it... than at 30 told i did have it!
NHS totally messed up and had no treatments for 4 years so it very bad!
I have had laser hair removal for my face and neck and it didnt work as i am very fair so i shave everyday.
We are trying to have children but its an up hill battle to get any help on NHS or private seems to be the only solution. Praying for a lottery win!

I am following Slimming World as i found weightwatchers hard to follow and try to keep the PCOS under control.
Anyway enough about me! Good luck folks.xxx

I have it. I remember having a dream when I was 12 that I would suffer from polycystic ovaries (7 years later i realised my dreams are visions as I am now clairvoyant/psychic), i never forgot that dream and when I stopped getting my periods at 18 I didn't do anything about it, finally went to the doctors when I was 20 after gaining some confidence and told her I hadn't had any periods for months to be told "there's no point doing any tests until you want children" after that I lost trust in the doctors, until I met up with another psychic who told me to go to the doctors and get checked out, I knew what he was referring too and went to a different doctor that same week. She sent me for tests and just a month later began treatment for polycystic ovary syndome after a scan came back confirming I had them (this was after being told I could have uterine cancer though). Periods are back (with the help of the pill), and apart from the first one they haven't been too bad, my weight loss is up and down and my moods even more so. I'm glad I got diagnosed but some days I wish I wasn't. Its nice to know I'm not the only one suffering with them.
Sponsor meeee pleaseeee...I only need another £23.50 to triple my target

Hey, yup have it too. Have to admit my main symptoms are the excessive facial hair and not so excessive periods (on dianette for that, came off it for 1 month and it was like i'd never been on it, took nearly 3 months before i had a period again) so i know i'm lucky enough with that, but its still really nice to hear from other people with the same thing. I know realistically, there have to be other women in and around my town with it but i don't know anyone, which made it a really nice surprise when i joined this site earlier today and saw the pcos forum! I'm on WW (although doing it on my own at the mo) and have just under 2st to lose, so fingers crossed, and best of luck to everyone else here!

Hi - everyone, I am a newbie here. I also have PCOS - diagnosed in my 20s. Been overweight since around that time, just getting heavier and heavier as each year passes. I have 2 children both conceived using Clomid. I have just started Lipotrim today....16 stone 4lbs and my target is 10stone 4lbs. I managed to lose 5 and a half stone in 2009 by doing lighter life, but sadly it has all crept back on again.... My problem is excessive hair, it is so depressing. The hair on my face is very fair but very coarse (especially on my chin) and my hairy bikini line/thighs/tummy are just awful! It is so nice to read that I am not the only one out there with pcos ...and I hope that all our weight losses will help reduce our symptoms...

Hi i have pcos, after been on dianette for a long time i decided to come off as we would be looking at ttc, i was diagnosed at 26 i started to getting longer lengths between periods and i eventually paid for a private scan it confirmed mild pcos, i dont have facial hair i am overweight ( currently doing cambridge) and i have regular periods well one every month might not fall on a 28 day scale but im grateful to be having them, as soon as i found out i decided to look into alternate ways rather than medcine i found accupuncture amazing i did 3 months of it with basal body temps to see if i was ovulating etc and since i stopped going i have had regular periods with no medication i am loosing weight to get a healthy bmi so that i can ttc i havent particulary tried so i dont know how long it may take. I found the gynae dr a waste of time she basically said if your not actively trying get back on the pill or you wont get periods she didnt like that i was having accupuncture she didnt believe it would work, she didnt tell me anything i didnt know myself she just said i will make clomid avaialble for as and when you need it at your gps and sent me packing... if im honest i expected more information rather than a hi and bye... anyway im hoping my cambridge dieting and walking will keep me monthly and help me catch on xx
