Unhappy My cat has gone to sleep

My little man, Sooty, 14, has been very poorly and had greatly deteriorated. He was all skin and bone and making no effort to groom himself. He had blood tests and was diagnosed with kidney problems which meant he was constantly hungry but not absorbing any of the nutrients from the food, then the other end started The vet said there was something else going on and had him in the surgery for a few day pumping him full of steroids but he still went downhill. So this evening we put him to sleep. It was so peaceful, he was in my arms and died so peacefully. Gutted but know that I have done the right thing, he had no quality of life.

Sorry to read about your puss. Sounds like you did the right thing for him. He'll join my Skip in kitty heaven.

Oh Lindy, I am so, so very sorry to hear your sad news. I am a cat owner myself and know how awful it is to lose a cat. I really feel for you tonight. Yes, you definitely did the right thing and I hope you draw some comfort from that, but equally you must be terribly upset at losing him.

    Sending you a BIG hug.

This is always the hardest part but shows your love by releasing him from his discomfort.

Remember all the lovely times you have had together.

Poor old puss he is now at rest.

    Hi Lindy,

Sooty was a wonderful age! You did the right thing by him all the same; hard and all as it was... it is heart breaking for you.

Aww Lindy, I'm so sorry for your cat.

You must take comfort from the fact that you did the right thing for him. I'm sure he'd have suffered much much more if you hadn't made that difficult decision love.

Having lost pets to old age in the past I know it's going to be very hard for you in the next few weeks and months, but just try to remember him when he was a healthy, happy cat.

    Hugs (((((((( ))))))))

Sorry to hear about Sooty but you definitely did the right thing. Gently releasing our beloved pets from a miserable quality of life is the last loving act we can perform, no matter how hard it is for us. It's a very unselfish thing to do.

I had to have my dear old boy Biggles put to sleep just before we moved back down South. I was gutted he couldn't make the journey with us. He was 18 and a growth in his windpipe was affecting his breathing so much that he was slowly suffocating.

Signing the consent form for euthanasia was horribly difficult but, like you, I was with him as he slipped quickly away and, hard as it was, I knew I did the right thing by him.

Hope your memories of Sooty will comfort you in time to come xx

    Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends, so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together.

I found this poem a tremendous help when I lost my Benson he was 16 and it broke my heart - each day will get better I promise xx
