Diary of a yummy mummy wannabe: From poppy seed to birth

Chronic dieter!!!
:sign0144:

Hi all,

People call me Marge, i am 30 years old, i got married last year and we are now expecting our first baby next April. I have spent most of my teenage and adult years either overweight or obese and chronically dieting; I currently have a BMI of just over 30. This really worries me as i want to be as healthy as possible during the pregnancy and want to avoid adding any extra kilos to my already very overweight body!

I'm starting a diary to try and keep on top of my weight and also to have something to remember the highs and lows! But i also hope to make some friends to share the experience as most of the people i know are skinny minnie and just don't understand how hard it is to lose weight.

I am seeing my doctor on the 20th and hopefully will get some advice on what to do about my diet. But i also hope to see a dietitian to get a healthy eating plan with only the necessary calories that i need.

I'll try and update daily but with a busy and stressful job, that might not always be possible... If i go missing for more than 2 days, please do give me a kick up the backside!!!

Wish me luck!

Marge xx

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I found keeping a diary really helped with keeping on track of my food intake as I piled it on with my last pregnancy. I did sw until 25 weeks then swapped to cal counting and I'm trying (being the operative word1) to still do that now on my 37th week. Good luck on your journey xx

Thanks Fordg! I'm hoping to get SW vouchers from my doctor when i go to see her next Monday - I've never done SW but don't think i could do points or calorie counting with my brain as fuzzy as it has been recently!

So i have been feeling really tired the last couple of weeks but thankfully have not been sick again since the horrible day i had last week when i had to come home from work early! I've had period like aches every now and then and my boobs have been ultra sensitive but otherwise nothing much has been going on. On the food front, i've not been counting or tracking what i've been eating but i have been trying to make healthy choices and adding lots of green vegetables to my meals.

On a more exciting note.... We have bought a car!!! YAY! We have been a car-free household for over a year now and although it does force you to do loads of walking, it has been a pain, especially in the winter months! We are going to collect it this Friday and i cannot wait :)

Yay got to pick up my car yesterday! My hubby was like a kid at Christmas, checking out all the features - even reading the manual!!

Sitting at the doc's now waiting to be seen - they had a cancellation so managed to get seen earlier :)

How did your appointment go? Aw I know exactly what you mean about your car, I have just passed my driving test and gotten a car and cannot believe the difference it has made to our lives already! x

Hi i am joining you on this journey as i have got my bfp today i am due the end of april i really wanted to lose loads more weight before i feel pregnant but hopefully i can lose some in the next few weeks and then try and keep the gain to hardly none although i dont know how i will go with this but hopefully both of us will achieve what we want

Yeah really well, it was with my usual doctor so i know what to expect from her and she knows what to expect from me! She gave me loads of information including a magazine called Emma's diary or something? And answered my questions about diet (she said anything between 1000-1500 cals is fine) and exercise (she said no problems with continuing what i am doing). She also told me to ring up the nurses about getting slimming world vouchers, so i've got an appointment to see them on Friday! And she also booked me in for bloods - thyroid test to monitor my levels this Wednesday and i assume pregnancy related blood tests for 3 weeks time and i have my booking appointment with the midwife in 4 weeks time - really excited!!

And the car.... BLISS!

OMG Kellie that is awesome!!! Congratulations, you must be so chuffed! I can't believe we're like due within weeks of each other - it's so nice to have someone to do the journey with! And don't worry about the extra weight - if you're anything like me, the more you worry the more you'll eat! - just focus on increasing your fruit and veg - especially green leafy veg which are full of folates and remember to take folic acid and vitamin D.... It's all about being as healthy as you can be for baby!

Yes we will be due within a few weeks of each other i worked it out i am due the 28th of april although i am always late so it will probably be a may baby when are you due. I am taking pregnacare tablets and i am going to try and eat healthy and hopefully that will stop me putting on to much weight

I worked out that I'm due 19th April :) The pregnacare tablets are great, I was taking the conception ones before and now taking the pregnancy ones that have fish oil supplement.

Today has not been great - had a major panic cause I had really bad back ache and period-like pains, I was convinced I was going to start bleeding...

On the upside I got my letter for my first scan for October 5 two weeks after my booking appointment with the midwife. So super excited - I cannot wait to see my bubba!!!!

Hope you ladies are doing well xx

How exciting knowing when your first scan is it will be great seeing baby on the screen. Hope the back ache and period type pain have eased maybe you have been over doing it and it is just your bodies way of saying take things a little bit easier i know every little pain i am sure i am going to bleed and lose the baby so i know how nervous you are feeling but hopefully we will both be fine and have a healthy happy 9 months xxx

Thanks Kellie! Luckily I'm on holiday next week - we leave for the Lake District tomorrow, so if I am overdoing it at work least I'll have a weeks break! Do you work? Is yours a stressful job? Mine can be very stressful at times... I'll just have to try and relax as much as I can!

No i dont work i am a stay at home mum i am lucky as my partner earns enough for me to stay at home when the kids get a bit older i hope to get a part time job. I hope you are having a great holiday, are you suffering from any sickness at all ? I feel sick at times but i have not been sick and i can also only eat what i fancy which is abit annoying and i keep getting some pains in my stomach as well which worry me at times but hopefully it is just everything stretching. I was 5 weeks yesterday i just wish i could fast forward to the 12 week mark just so i can have the scan just to reassure myself that everything is ok. How many week are you now? Have you told people you are pregnant or are you waiting for your scan i am going to wait this time the only people that know are my best mate and my partner.

That is lucky! I'm the main salary earner so it is going to be a real struggle for me to take even a years maternity leave! But hey ho, that's life!

I was 6 weeks on Saturday so half way through the 'danger zone'.... I have my booking appoint on Sep 20th and 1st scan on Oct 5th. I'm going to tell people after the scan, at the moment only family and a few friends know.

Not feeling sick at all now. Was very nauseous to begin with but okay now, which is good! I get period like pains, which apparently is normal? And lower back pain I've had quite a lot - cant wait till they let me start the aqua natal class!

Are your pains different to what you've had in your previous pregnancy? Maybe ring up NHS Direct to get peace of mind? Hope the time goes quickly for you!

Had some more painful back and period like pain again today... Not had it for awhile so it really panicked me... Just need to get through the next 5 weeks and I'll hopefully be past the most stressful part of the pregnancy.

Anyway, got back from my holiday today, glad I've got another day before I go back to work!

I'm seeing the nurse about the slimming world vouchers on Wednesday so if I qualify I'll be going to my first meeting on Thursday - I need to get back on track with my food!

Hi hun hope you are feeling abit better now i keep getting stomach pains and i am so nervous every time i go to the loo just in case the worst happens. I cant really remember what pains i was getting with the others i had spotting with the last two so had an early scan at 8 weeks i just wish these first 12 weeks were over as it is doing my brain in i dont know why i am just so nervous that something is going to go wrong i never felt like this with the others so this is a new feeling which i hate x
