Going from two to three without eating for five!

Caz

Repeat Offender
Hello everyone :) I have another diary on here that I made in the run up to my wedding, as that's now been and gone someone very wise suggested I start one for the next stage of my life and thought I would take her advice.

For those that don't know me already, I'm Caroline. I got married in August and found out shortly after that we're expecting our first child in April next year. So here's our little Spud, growing away contently. This was at 12 weeks, so about 3 weeks ago now.

So far weight wise I seem to be doing OK. I piled on about a stone very quickly before the wedding and didn't really know why, now I think that this may have had something to do with it. I've lost 7lb of that and have now just been maintaining for the past couple of weeks. I have quite a lot of weight to lose though so I could probably do with still carrying on to lose a lb here and there for now but not sure how long I'll manage to keep losing for. I'm not really too bothered though, I'm more concerned about just staying healthy and trying to gain as little as possible. I think to do this I really need to get into exercise, it's half term (I'm a teacher) so going to have a go at starting swimming again this week.

Looking forward to getting to know some other mums to be on here as well as sharing the journey with my few regular visitors.

Hello hun and welcome. Congratulations on your pregnancy. Xx

Hi Caz and Spud --

i think think swimming would be an excellent gentle fitness activity for a pregnant lass.

I'm here to subscribe so I can follow your latest craft project. ;)

Hi Caz

Congrats on your pregnancy :)

Thanks ladies.

I can't decide whether to do the patchwork quilt, I think it might be a bit above my skill level! I'm still tempted to have a go though, I'll probably work on it over Christmas once my niece's baby is here so I know whether it's a boy or girl. Apparently my mum has started knitting me things bless her. I actually really like knitted stuff on babies so I'm happy with that.

I haven't been swimming yet, I've got a bit of a bad cold and chest that I want to get rid of first. I'm getting a bit of a sore hip already and with my dodgy knee I know that's bound to play up at some point, I know swimming helps strengthen my knee when it's bad so it's worth doing.

Weighed myself this morning and was a little surprised to see that I've lost another lb, making it 8lb in total since we found out. I haven't been eating too badly but I've not been really good either so I didn't think I'd have lost. That's from the past 2 weeks so only half a lb a week buy I'm OK with that. My NHS update thing said that by now most women have put on about 10lb and now steadily gain 1-2lb a week. The longer I put that off the better, the 8lb may really be worth more than 8lb if I've put on some baby weight. I'm more bothered about just being healthy though, I need to give myself the best pregnancy I can and this baby the best start I can. Not sure how long I can keep up not gaining but I'll try for as long as I can!

I'd have a go at the quilt if I was you... You never know the limits of your skill set until you try, what have you actually got to lose... xx

Afternoon Caz!

Well done on the loss and I'd try the patchwork quilt. You learn by doing (as you well know).

I think I will give the quilt a go, I'll probably start once she's had the baby so I know if it's a boy or girl.

Weight seems to be just going up and down withing the same 2lb range at the moment. I'm OK with that, I just don't want to gain yet but do need to try harder with food.

I'm trying to persuade A to buy me a kitchenaid for Christmas. I so desperately want one but it's just not working! I've done lots of baking this weekend, which I really enjoy, but there was one recipe that was a really heavy one and I really wished I had one.

How are you all doing?

You can buy some really lovely fabrics... If I could sew Ii would love to quilt, sadly it isn't my forte, I have tried but I just haven't got what it takes... xx

Morning C,

They're pretty expensive -- maybe you could suggest vouchers and cobble them together (if people ask what you want).

It's something that we're considering. I really, really want one but I'm not sure that we can really warrant spending that much money on one, especially with a baby on the way.

I've been searching and searching for aqua classes for pregnant people but there don't seem to be any locally, which is a pain. I'm not sure that I could go to just a normal aquafit class but I want to start doing that kind of thing again, I'd just rather have a specially trained instructor who could tell me whether there are certain movements and things that I shouldn't do. I'd also rather go with other people with growing bellies instead of shrinking ones! There is such a poor offering of these things for pregnant people. I looked at pregnancy pilates or yoga too, again nothing locally. All the local groups and coffee sessions for mums and mums to be are all during the week, during the day too. There's a definite gap in the market for working parents, which I think is a real shame. When I've asked about it (including to NCT who are a huge organisation) the response has always been simple, you'll have to come once you're on maternity leave. That's fine and I'll have to do that, it's just a shame that people in my situation can't start building up any form of friendships or network with similar people until the baby is basically here.

Anyway, rant over. Sorry ladies! Hope everyone is doing OK. Any plans for the weekend? Mine consist of housework, exciting stuff hey.

Of you haven't been working out all along - starting that far along in your pregnancy might not be ideal. There really is a gap in services -- most women work these days. No choice.

That's the thing, I haven't been to aquafit in probably 6 months so I don't think it's a good idea to go straight back into normal classes but then there aren't any other options out there. It's so frustrating.

Been talking to A about food and diet as I'm going shopping in a little bit. He told me to stop buying so much fruit as it's not all getting eaten because he doesn't eat it. He seems to see the problem wrong, the problem isn't that I buy too much, it's that he's not eating enough and I told him that. After a bit of arguing (not us having an argument, him saying he doesn't like fruit, doesn't want fruit etc) he's admitted that he does need to up his game with what he's eating. It's not that I'm being perfect at the moment, I'm not by far, but I am trying to make more of an effort to eat a balanced diet and he needs to do the same. He's agreed to make more effort and has asked me to get some specific fruit. I've said that I don't mind buying things that he particularly wants if it'll get him eating more of it, he just needs to actually tell me. Going to both try and make a real effort this week, we're starting to slip back into bad habits of not eating that badly but not adding enough veg and stuff. I've got my dietitian appointment on the 27th, I want to be able to go in there saying that I'm doing well, not that I eat crap!

What a shame they did aqua natal at my local pools it was good if you cN find one eventually. I only went once im lazy and the thought of getting dressed after put me off!!

Hope you find something to do that suits you before baba comes x
