Thumbs up The easiest Autumn/Winter filling meal.

Switch on a slow cooker, or put a heavy bottom large saucepan on a low heat, and add the following

50 gram Red Lentils; 25 gram Pearl Barley; 25 gram of dried haricot/other beans.
(If preferred miss out one or two of the choices and make up to 100grams of your preferred dried pulses, but the lentils do add goodness and thicken it.)
A kettle full of boiling water
    1 large roughly chopped Onion
    1 large roughly sliced Leek
2/3 medium potatoes peeled and diced
1 packet of prepared Stew/soup pack of vegetables from your local Super market or
1 pkt Whitworth dried country vegetables
http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/asda-compare-prices/Dried_Vegetables/Whitworths_Dried_Country_Vegetables_50g.html a main stay in my larder.

Chuck it all in the cooker and leave for a couple of hours, DO NOT ADD ANY SEASONING UNTIL THE PULSES ARE SOFT AND MUSHY, they remain hard otherwise.

Half way through add a diced fresh chicken breast.

For seasoning add 2 - 3 chicken stock cubes and ground black pepper.

WARNING: This is a main course not a starter soup and can be addictive

An alternative is a nice smoked ham hock but cook off the day before drain off the stock and leave to cool, the following morning take off the fat layer which will accumulate on top.

You should get, depending on how big your bowl is, 4 - 6 portions for approximately 1200 calories and minimum fat.

You can adapt it for all likes n dislikes, even vegetarian can make a lovely meal by trying out different veg, pulses, tofu etc; it is so easy, warming and good for you, even if you are not on a diet
