Recipe Nightmares

Am 2 weeks into RTM and so very new to food again. But searching the supermarket shelves and reading the labels is driving me nuts as im not sure what i'm meant to be looking for on the label apart from 0% carbs 0% sugar 0% fat which of course would be great. Can anyone just tell me the name of exact products I can use ??

To make matters worse have lost my recipe book so making salad dressing/veggie dip is just by trial and error really and believe me my talents do not lie in experimental cookery!!

Have bought quark which I guess is used as a base for a dip - which tasted ok on it's own actually but what other things could I add to it any ideas?

Also bought low fat natural yoghurt and fromage frais though obviously not sure if they are the lowest cal version.

A recipe for just a plain salad dressing would be good too - have got white/red/balsamic vinegar for the base as a start.

Should I be sticking to a certain number of calories and % of fats/carbs or wot. please please help!!!

Fat free Salad Dressing

1 tbsp any fat free dressing (I use helmans fat free vinigratte)
2-3 tbsp of lemon or lime juice

You can adapt with balsamic, mustard or other variations if you like.

I use Fage Total 0% Greek yogurt, but make sure it's the 0 % cos they do a 2% and a full fat... this is loveky with sugar free jelly :)

White dressing

Quark
1 clove of Garlic crushed
1 tbsp of skimmed milk
oregano
lemon juice or balsamic vinegar

Mix the quark with skimmed milk til a little runny then add the rest :)

Hope this helps!!!

Good luck :D

Hi Jaycee

Thing about RTM, is we are given very little instruction.

As for salad dressing, the book reccomended 1 Tablespoosn very low, or no-fat dressing, diluted with 2-3 tablespoons lemon juice. I use lemon or lime. Its very good.

Your big blue book should give you ideas of what to look for with regards to labels.

:)

Thanx guys ur stars - thing is blonde logic twit that I am lost the big blue book too - took them both to Tesco to do some shopping and havent seem them since. Daughter swears she put them in the boot of the car with the rest of the shopping but cant find them anywhere have to grovel for another set next week from my counsellor.

Anyway went shopping today and found this brill book - 'calorie, carb and fat bible' which gives you the 'c,c & f' per 100grams for thousands of UK brands and basics. So just have to find out how many of each im allowed and im sorted.

Hi Jaycee. Hope you got sorted with the "Curious about RTM" thread. It's really helpful to me when I've not got my book handy. That book also sounds handy. I've started using nutracheck, as recommended by tange for cals, fat etc. I thought I knew a lot from the ww days but actually I don't think I did. No wonder I was going wrong!! Good luck with your RTM journey. Nice to have another bod round here :)
