Weasey's Protein Meal Recipes

In a bid to get myself to do more cooking (rather than chicken salad or stir fry) I'm going to be trying out a few recipes and putting them on here with my thoughts for anyone who might be interested to try something different.

Sometimes I may use things alittle off plan but I'll let you know if I do...

04/03/12 - Tandoori Fish - Serves 1

Difficulty : Easy

Verdict : Quite Nice

Off/On Plan: The only oddity here from a plan perspective is that it contains natural yogurt. I used it instead of my milk allowance.

My Thoughts: I enjoyed this. It's the first time I've ever cooked fresh fish (vegetarian for over 20 years before now!) so I was a little worried. Nice but not especially spicy. Might think about doing with chicken instead.

Ingredients:

  • 40g low fat natural yogurt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon tandoori curry paste
  • 100g white fish

  1. Preheat oven to 190 degrees C
  2. Mix together the yogurt, turmeric and curry paste.
  3. Coat fish on both sides with yogurt mixture. Then sprinkle with black pepper.
  4. Put fish into shallow dish and cover with foil. Put in oven for 10 mins.
  5. Remove foil then put back in oven for another 10 mins.
That's it.

I think that this will be a regular post for me to visit

Great post! You're gonna need to add a rating for difficulty as I'm no cook! :)

One I like is to put chicken, peppers, shallots, mushrooms, leeks in a roasting bag, add spices to taste, shake bag to coat ingredients in the spices and throw in the bottom of the oven and leave to cook for 30 mins or so.

Thanks everyone! It's great when some thing you put together to help yourself also is useful for other people!

Ooo - good idea - perhaps a rating for how much I liked it too... Have edited above post to add them!)

I like the idea of your recipe - what spices do you tend to add?

Tried a variety of different things in different combos - chilli, paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic, coriander, basil, ginger - depends on my mood :).

Great post! I will definitely be popping in here for some ideas as am also getting bored of chicken salad even though I love chicken x

So - I just got the shopping in and I have a choice for today's recipe try out. It's between tuna burgers and BG's chicken and veggies in a roasting bag... Which to try first?!

Tuna burgers - I know what the chicken in a bag tastes like but have never tried tuna burgers so am interested in what you do / how they turn out :)

Ohhhhhh love this!!!!
Definatly going in the bookmarks ;)

I vote tuna burgers! Great thread, thanks so much, it's going to be so helpful :)

Ok - tuna burgers it is!

Tuna Burgers sound lovely!!! Do you buy them or make them? xx

Make them. I've never tried before so we'll have to see what happens...

Tuna Burger

Difficulty : Moderate / Quite a lot of chopping

Verdict : Quite Nice

Off/On Plan: Think it's all ok

My Thoughts: Nice. I was surprised that the burger actually stayed in a burger shape when it was cooked! Would think about adding thinly sliced spring onions in the mix another time. Asian type flavours. I was surprised that it tasted a little sweet.

Ingredients:
  • 100g fresh tuna steak
  • 1 small garlic clove (put through garlic press or finely chopped)
  • small piece of fresh root ginger, peeled and finely chopped
  • small handful fresh coriander leaves, roughly chopped
  • 1 tbsp low salt soy sauce

  1. Chop the tuna into cubes roughly 1cm. Then keep chopping until tuna is roughly minced.
  2. Put tuna in a bowl with the other ingredients and mix with your hand.
  3. Shape into a burger, around 2 cm thick. Put on a small plate and put in the freezer for 10 mins. This allows the burger to keep its shape.
  4. Put spray oil in a frying pan and put on a moderate heat. Cook the burger for 1 to 2 minutes on each side.

That's it. I ate it with a salad but it could be served with cooked veggies if you prefer.
