    Beelishy's VLCD Weight Loss Adventure!!

    Hiya!

I'm starting S&S tomorrow. It is my first ever VLCD and Im pretty excited to get going. I had a gastric bypass nearly 11 years ago and never quite made it to goal. You will have to forgive me - Im American and I work best in lbs (pounds) than I do in stones. The day of my surgery I weighed just shy of 29st. Yep. TWENTY NINE. 402lbs. The lowest I got was 200lbs in July 2004. Then I moved here (Geordie hubby) and didnt cope with the homesickness and such very well. So the weight piled on and I gained about 80lbs within about a year!

Ive yo-yo'ed over the past several years, Got pregnant with my first baby and the day after she was born (Nov 2009) I weighed 301lbs. Luckily, the baby weight fell off. Mostly because i was so stressed and never had time or desire to eat for the first few months. lol.

I finally found my groove with healthy eating and exercise early 2011. I got down to 250lbs from 280lbs. It was hard work and I was plugging along. And then I got sick in April for a few weeks. Then we went off on hols the 1st of May. Well by the time we got back, my motivation and groove was gone. So I stayed in and around the 250s for a few months. And then I got pregnant with our 2nd (and final! lol) baby in Aug/Sept of 2011. The day after she was born (May 2012) I was 298lbs! So in the last (nearly) 10 months I have worked it down to 277lbs (as of yesterday. I will re-weigh tomorrow morning, just in case lol) but I cant seem to get out of the 270s.

So! I came on here a few months ago when I was trying to get my head around Slimming World (and failing miserably) and I came across the Slim and Save threads. Id never heard of it so I had a look. I had toyed with the idea of Lighter Life in the past but never really was able to afford it and the counselling aspect didn't appeal to me at all. Well, I looked at the S&S website and thought it may be a good idea. It still seemed like a lot of money to spend.

Well, the other day...I don't really know why but I just got FED UP. Sick of up and down. Sick of trying and failing. Sick of being strict with myself only to see little to no results. I want to be thinner, healthier...for my girls. I want to be the mother that they deserve. I want to be able to run around and play with them and not have to stop and catch my breath after 2 minutes! So I went back to the S&S website and I realised its not really expensive as there is NO FOOD involved. So i had a chat with my ever-supportive hubby who was a bit hesitant, but told me to go ahead and try it.

So that brings us to today! My 7 day trial arrived this afternoon and I will get started tomorrow. They sent me enough of a variety that I can really see what sorts of packs I will like and what not so much so I will have more of an idea of what to order in my 28 day supply. Because I AM going to do this. I was on such a paltry amount of food after my surgery...I KNOW it works. I just have to stick with it. And Im ready. I am SO ready. I invite anyone and everyone who is interested to come along for the ride. We all need support now and then. We also all have it in us to do this.
    Kelly

Best of luck! I started two weeks ago and have lost 21lbs already!! The best advice i had was mix things up, like having shakes hot/ making the porridge in to a cookie with some ginger and cinnamon (nom nom), turning the chocolate shake in to a brownie (with milk it tastes like hot fudge sauce), turning courgettes in to crisps with some paprika, just be adventurous. It is honestly the only diet i have found that works for me..... so good luck!! and keep smiling!! xx

    Day 1 is upon us!

Could someone (sorry to sound daft) explain to me HOW you make the shakes hot? Do you use boiling water instead? Or do you make it up with cold water and then microwave it? I would like to try it in the coming days/weeks but not sure how. Im still very cautious to not mess this up as it is my first VLCD. So I dont know how you actually do/make ANY of the little tips/tricks. I will stay on the straight and narrow for the most part, but I may try the hot shakes.

Im going to sit and drink my first pint of water of the day while I work out how best to space my packs.

    Have a great day, everyone!

Glad to see that you've got your own diary to keep us all updated now

You might still have a long way to go and feel fed up but you've also come a long, long way and that's something to be proud of. You've done an amazing job so far.

I see you've set your goal as 180lbs, is that for any particular reason?

Caz. No not really..My lowest adult weight was 195lbs and I was pretty happy with my body at that point. I was still curvy but I was in a US size 14/16 and felt great. I figure I will aim for a bit under so that when I come off and start maintenance, I wont be depressed if I go above that. lol. I will see nearer the time. But in my head, thats where Im aiming for, for now.

OMG. Im having the Toffee shake as we speak. I blitzed it in my blender with a little over 200ml of water and a bit of ice. Its very subtle and absolutely GORGEOUS! Im very pleased! Mmmmm! Yum! Im not really a toffee kinda person, either. The only "diet" shakes Ive ever had were Slim fast, which I think are vile. LOL. These are nothing like that.

I only ask because we're the same height and I've set my goal weight as 182, 2lbs above you. I've never been smaller than I am now (other than when I passed it on the way up!) so don't really know whether it's a good weight for me. Will have to see when I get there I suppose. Can I ask what size you are now? It'd be interesting to compare our sizes, see if they match up.

Toffee really is lovely isn't it, I like making it thick and freezing it as an ice cream!

Im currently in my american jeans which are size 22. I would prob be a 26 here. And tops Im about a 22/24 UK. The "recommended weight for my height has always been nearer 150-160 but i just dont think i want to go down that low. When I was down to 250-255lbs I was just getting into some UK size 22 jeans. And my tops were 18/20. Long way to go, But I will get there. I just cant wait to see how much I can lose by holiday time. 83 days! lol

Yeah I know what you mean, I should be 170lb minimum, seems too low for me. I looked at body fat calculations and the dukan diet site, based on those my recommended weight was 13st 4 (186lb) and 13st 7 (189lb) so I've gone for 13st (182lb). Can readjust when I get there hopefully! When I started, weighing 279lb, I was a UK size 24. Now at 230lb I'm a UK 16/18 on top and 18/20 on bottom, very close to being a solid 18 on bottom lol When I hit 182lb I'd like to be a UK 12.

Where are you off on holiday to? Las Vegas? I've got a holiday booked too, 182 days for me though!

Im very "hippy" and tend to be smaller on top and lose quicker on top. Youve come really far already. Thats fantastic! Yes, Vegas. I havent seen my mother in 6 years and shes (obviously) never met my girls so its a really big trip for me, emotionally. We had fallen out in 2006 and only resumed speaking late last year. So I would love to **** as much as possible by then. We were watching Biggest Loser USA monday night and one bloke on there lost over 100lbs in like 6 or 7 weeks. I dunno howww they do that! lolol I would love to be at your current weight (or lower although very unlikely lol) by my hols, Caz!
