My daily food diary...thinking slim!!!

Hi everyone,
Despite the odd post I'm usually just a lurker around the forums. I've decided that the time has come to hold myself accountable - everyday!
This will probably be a boring read for alot of you but I'm hoping keeping a daily food diary will be a coping tool for me.

Soooo, I started Slim & Save on the 12/01/15 doing the Simplicity Plan, did tons of research and decided this was the best one for me.

Once I'd settled on my diet/plan I did tons more research on what to expect and what I was/wasn't allowed on plan. I like to be prepared!
Now one thing I will say straight away is that I don't eat breakfast, just drink coffee (de-caff). I know this is bad for me and can hinder my weight loss blah blah blah but I really have heard it all before and have tried numerous times on numerous diets to eat breakfast and just can't. Even something small, it just leaves me feeling sick till lunchtime.
So here it goes........

Day 1 (12/01/15) Start Weight: 15st 9lb

Lunch - Tomato Soup Pack - Struggled to get it to mix well but once it did it was very tasty. Good start.
Afternoon Snack - Cafe Latte Shake - Loved this, was like drinking a proper latte, must try it warm next time.
Dinner - Cottage Pie Meal Pack with 100g broccoli and 100g white cabbage - This was yummy and it's nice to have an optional veg allowance to pad out your packs!
Evening Snack - Milk Chocolate Truffa Bar - This was delicious, felt like a real treat. Loved it.
Managed to drink 3 litres of water as recommended for my body weight.

Overall, day 1 went really well, but then it always does for me. No side effects except feeling a little cold, but that's completely normal - plus it's January!!!!

Day 2 - 13/01/15

Lunch - Original Oatmeal Pack - Was dreading trying this but was actually really sweet and yummy!
Afternoon Snack - Lemon Yoghurt Shake - Again wasn't keen on the sound of this but was pleasantly surprised, tasty!
Dinner - 5 cheese Pasta Meal Pack - Tasted lovely but I think I'll make with a little less water next time as was really runny. Had this with 100g chopped leeks and 50g broccoli, felt satisfied after.
Evening Snack - Milk Chocolate vanilla and almond bar - Super, super yummy!!
Extras - 2 cups of de-caff coffee using my optional 150ml of skimmed milk allowance.

Overall felt okay today. Not as satisfied as Day 1 but stuck to plan and enjoyed the packs.

Day 3 - 14/01/15

Lunch - Vegetable soup - Again was lovely once it mixed - took a while of whisking.
Afternoon Snack - Hazelnut shake - loved this, going to try it hot with a spoonful of de-caff coffee next time, will taste like a hazelnut latte! Yum!
Dinner - Spaghetti Bolognese Meal Pack with 100g celery cooked in frylite. Really enjoyed this but had the same problem as with the 5 cheese pasta, will use a bit less water when I make it up next time!
Evening Snack - Honey Noughat Bar - loving the bars, this one was yummy too! Nice and chewy!
Extras - 100ml of Blackcurrent Ribena Plus
1 de-caff coffee with milk allowance.
Had full recommended water intake.

Today was terrible, I felt cold, hungry and grumpy all day. It mightn't have been as bad if I was at work but I got snowed in. Literally can't believe I made it through the day on plan. Wanted to eat everything in sight. I know everything will get easier so just push on................

Day 4 - 15/01/15

Lunch - Chicken Curry Noodle Soup - this was lovely, plenty of noodles and mixed much better than the previous ones.
Afternoon Snack - Vanilla Shake - Very nice. Haven't tried a bad shake yet.
Dinner - Pasta Carbonara Meal Pack - Was gutted with this one, it was edible and made it a little thicker but hated the really strong fake ham taste. Still I ate it.
Evening Snack - Chocolate Orange Truffa Bars - My most favourite one so far. It's not Terry's, it's mine! Loved it!
Extras - 100ml of Blackcurrent Ribena Plus and 1 Decaff coffee with skimmed milk.
Managed full water again. woop.

Felt loads better today than yesterday. Not as hungry, not as tired, not as cold. Ketosis imminent maybe?
Cannont believe that as an ex-daily weigher I've managed to stay off the scales. Long may it last. Definitely more positive today!! :)

Day 5 - 16/01/15

Lunch - chicken soup. This was okay. Tasty enough but had to force myself to drink it.
Afternoon snack- Banana Shake. Used the mouse mix to make this, turned out the consistency of Angel Delight. Didn't mix it well enough though as was really lumpy so couldn't eat it all. Taste was lush though!
Dinner - Chilli meal pack with 100g of green dry fried peppers and 100g of cauliflower rice. This was amazing, favourite meal so far. Nice and spicy.
Evening snack - Maple, fruits and Almond bar. Yum!
Extras - 200ml Blackcurrent Ribena Plus and 2 de-caff coffees with milk allowance

Managed to drink water quota.

Felt fine today. Not really hungry at all. Still miss proper food and the really full feeling you get after a nice meal. Feeling positive though. Just to get the weekend out of the way then first weigh in Monday morning! Eek!

Haha, just realised this looks weird as all dated the same day! Was playing catch up and decided to go back to the start. I'm on Day 5 now so will be a daily post from now on! :)

Day 6 - 17/01/15

Lunch - Banoffee Porridge, this was yummy, really enjoyed it. Nice consistency too!
Afternoon Snack- Strawberry shake, yummy!
Dinner - Spicy bolognese meal pack with 1/2 pack of zero spaghetti, 150g of swede 'chips' and 50g of spring onions. The most satisfying meal I've had yet. The extra 'spaghetti' really made a difference. Glad I got a few varieties.
Evening snack - Milk Chocolate Truffa. Love love love the bars!!!!
Extras - 2 de-caff coffees and 200ml of Blackcurrent Ribena Plus.

Managed all of my water and finishing earlier and earlier every day! :)

I'm really getting to grips with the food now and other than still feeling cold at times all of the other symptoms are gone. Never really feel hungry which is a huge plus. Only downside is I'm starting to feel like a total grump. Can't remember once in the past week where I laughed with my partner, we're usually constantly giggling and poking fun at each other. Really hoping my sense of humour comes back soon.....

Roll on Monday for first weigh in. Been the longest week of my life so far!

Thanks Sparkswillfly! You too! :)

Day 7 - 18/01/15

Lunch - porridge, once I added a crushed sweetner this was quite nice, has more of the consistency of rice pudding!
Afternoon snack - Mango and orange shake made into a mousse, think I may have finally found a shake I don't like! Eurgh!
Dinner - Mild Curry meal pack plus 100g celery, 100g of green pepper and 1/2 a pack of slim rice. Thoroughly enjoyed this, felt like a proper meal, I did add some chilli powder though, I like a kick to my curry!
Evening snack - mint chocolate bar - This was lovely, tasted like mint aero! Yum!
Extras - 200ml of Blackcurrant Ribena Plus

All water quota drank (and a bit more).

I've followed the plan 100% and was sure I was in Ketosis as much less hungry the last couple of days. Today though I was actually starving. My belly was rumbling that loudly that OH was making jokes about earthquakes. Then he started to look worried and started saying maybe I should eat something, I just laughed it off and made a cup of de-caff with my milk allowance. Been like that since half and hour after my first pack. But disheartened because I'd presumed Ketosis by now! Not one single cheat has crossed my mouth! Getting a bit fed up of being constantly cold too! But I've come this far and first weigh in tomorrow morning! So I'll just have to wait and see if it's paid off.........,

Day 8 - 19/01/15 and 1st weigh in.

First weigh today and got a bit of a shock. 10lb off!!!! That takes me into the 14's now, if only just. Also lost 7.5 inches! :)
Mentally preparing myself for a much smaller loss in week to but 10lb is a great start. So today's 'food'.....

Lunch - Caramel shake made warm with two teaspoons of de-caff coffee. Was like drinking a caramel latte! Yummy!
Afternoon snack - Raspberry shake made into a mousse. This was okay. Not my favourite but edible.
Dinner - Mushroom pasta meal pack with 200g of swede chips and 1/2 pack of slim spaghetti. Felt really full after this. Mushroom isn't my favourite but I felt like I had a proper meal.
Evening snack - white chocolate muesli bar, this this may be my favourite so far. Tasted so fruity and yummy!
Extras - 200g Blackcurrant Ribena Plus and 2 de- caff coffees with milk allowance.

Now I'm a week in I could probably go back to drinking regular coffee but don't feel I need to! Enjoying the de-caff just as much! Wasn't as hungry today as yesterday either so I'm hoping yesterday was just a blip.
Feeling hopeful after my first weigh in and determined that week 2 will be as strict and on plan as week 1. :)

Day 9 - 20/01/15

Lunch - chocolate shake, had this warm. Was bloody lovely!
Afternoon Snack - rhubarb and custard shake, was okay, might make it into an ice cream next time!
Dinner - Thai Soup with slim noodles. This was nice but couldn't finish it, was too spicy. And I love spicy food! Weird!
Evening snack - Toffee shake made warm with de- caff coffee. This was okay. Will try cold next time.
Extras - 200ml of Blackcurrant Ribena and 2 de- caff coffee with milk allowance.

Still drinking all my water everyday.

Going strong so far. I'm liking that all the temptation is taken away doing the Simplicity plan. It also certainly helps that my lovely partner has taken over the cooking for him and the wee one. I just have a meal pack with them at dinner time so we still get to eat together. Don't think I would've stayed on plan if I'd had to buy and cook all of our favourite foods without being able to eat them at the end of it. He's also taken to getting his junk food fix while he's at work so I don't have to watch him munch away in the evening! He's one of those lucky people who can eat what they want and never gain a pound. Part of my problem, the two of us would sit and gobble our favourites but only one of us would get any bigger! So annoying but he's being very supportive! :)

Day 10 - 21/01/15

Lunch - Cherry chocolate shake - had this warm. Was okay but not great.
Afternoon snack - Cookies and cream shake - had this warm with a spoon of coffee, quite enjoyed it.
Dinner - Had a lifestyle day as didn't fancy the mushroom soup pack I'd planned. So had one low fat sausage with some egg fried slim rice and swede chips. Enjoyed having something to chew but didn't enjoy the sausage as much as I thought I would! They're usually my favourite!
Evening snack - Lemon Bar - after the initial shock of the very very lemony tang this was a very enjoyable bar. Completely different to the usual chocolate based bars.
Extras - 200ml of Blackcurrant Ribena Plus and two de- caff coffees with milk allowance.

Managed all my water.

Had a renewed sense of determination today. Not sure where it has come from but delighted. Was much needed. Think I'm just wanting week 2 over so fast because of the notorious low losses. Fingers crossed I'm one of the lucky few who still get decent losses in weeks 2 and 3. Have never done a VLCD before so no previous experience to draw on! Don't know how my body is going to react. Getting ahead of myself though. Weigh in isn't until Monday! It's only Wednesday! Lol

Hi Lyndsey, I've recently started Slim and Save. I'm currently on week 2 (also did a week on Exante) it's nice to read someone else starting out as it's like a ghost town on this thread :)

Good luck, I'm looking forward to reading about your journey x

Yay well done on your 10lbs!

I know what you mean about the cold...I have a granny blanket for the sofa now haha!

Thanks Sparkswillfly, mines massive and fluffy and I'm wrapped in it as we speak!

And thanks Sammysmiles, apart from me and Sparkswillfly I was beginning to think we were the only ones here that are just starting out! Good look on your journey too! Do you have a diary? Will look forward to hearing about your journey too! :)

Day 11 - 21/01/15

Lunch - Vegetable Soup, had this before mixed it better this time.
Afternoon Snack - mint Chocolate shake, had this warm, thought it would be like a mint options but had a weird aftertaste.
Dinner - scrambled egg meal pack with 100g of broccoli. This had a weird consistency and has been repeating on me all night. Definitely not a winner.
Evening snack - vanilla almond bar, this was yummy! Yet to find a bar I don't like!
Extras - 150ml of Ribena Plus and 2 de-caff coffees.
Managed all my water.

Up till now I've been buying the 'one of everything boxes on eBay because they're the best value. However I've decided to bugger the cost and just bought a months supply of the stuff I like best from the website. That's me with enough at home now to see me through till the end of February. I hate waste so it's an extra little incentive to keep going. Not that I need it at the moment. Even when I've felt like crap I haven't even considered cheating. I guess I'm just suited to the rigidity of a VLCD. I don't have to think about what I'm going to eat as it's all planned out. Feeling strong! I'm sure that change at some point, but for now......feeling strong! :)

Well done, youre nearly 2 weeks in. It certainly gets easier doesn't it? I have to say I just love the packs and bars, so much tastier than Exante! :)

I'm looking forward to see how far we get by Summer (fingers crossed!)xx

I'm the same Sammy! Quietly optimistic about being at my goal for the end of May.

It definitely gets easier and liking a lot of the packs helps. The bars are to die for!!!!!!

How much are you hoping to loose? X

4 stone in total, start weight was 13.7 and hoping to finish off at 9.7 but 10 stone would be great. I almost want to wish the months away!
